24.01.2022 Blueberry Rust - Biosecurity Tasmania are asking Tasmanian's who have or have recently purchased blueberry plants to remain vigilant for signs of blueberry rust. Blueberry rust is a plant disease which may cause plants to loose their leaves or to actually die if severe. 15.01.2022 Keeping to the theme of birds, in 10 days time it's the start of the Aussie Backyard Bird count from 22nd to 28th October 2018. Help make a contribution to knowing more about our bird species and where they occur............all that is required is doing a 20 min survey of the birds in your backyard or favorite park or other place where you see birds. 13.01.2022 The full program of activities for the Bruny Island Bird Festival are now available on their web site. The festival is held from Friday 19th October to Monday 22nd October 2018 with lots of activities to participate in such as bird walks with experts, talks, creative workshops, market and lots more for all ages and regardless if you know your birds or not......... a good opportunity to learn more. 13.01.2022 This coming weekend 24th to 26th May 2019 is the second period for the Where?Where?Wedgie! survey. Volunteers are needed to help with this survey to find where eagles or other birds of prey occurr in Tasmania. Golden squares are the priority sites to survey - for more information on the survey and what is required look up the web site - you don't have to be an expert birdo, there is a great video to show you how to identify eagles and other raptors. https://naturetrackers.com.au/index.php

11.01.2022 The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens now will have a fundraising plant sale on the first Tuesday of every month - a great opportunity to buy some really good plants



10.01.2022 Threatened Species Day Friday 7th September celebration by the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Garden; 200 years of Caring for the Rare at the RTBG Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens Come and discover how your Botanical Gardens is caring for rare plant species this Friday 7th September for National Threatened Species Day.... On Friday in the Visitors Centre foyer discover ancient rare Gondwanan conifers. Learn about where they occur and why they are threatened. Also between 10am-2pm only see some of Tasmania’s most endangered native orchids and learn how the Botanical Gardens is helping to protect them. Volunteers from our Native Orchid Research and Conservation program will be in attendance to talk about this important project. Stroll to the Tasmanian Native Plant Garden Displays and look out for the red plant labels which highlight some of Tasmania’s threatened species .

05.01.2022 The Aussie Backyard Bird Count would like you to help with learning more about the birds that live where we do. It doesn't matter if you don't have a backyard, a favorite place you like to walk, such as a nearby park can be your 'backyard'. All you have to do is record all the types of birds you see in a 20 minute period any day from 22nd to 28th October 2018. Don't feel confident about identyfing bird species? 04.01.2022 Like to take part in this year’s Where? Where? Wedgie! citizen science surveys on the weekends of Fri 10th - Sun 12th and Fri 24th Sun 26th May? Please consider participating and help contribute to learning more about our raptor populations in Tasmania. It’s a citizen science project, so you don’t need to be a biologist to participate, nor do you have to survey on all six days; everyone is welcome to spend a few hours (or more) with friends and/or family exploring the out...doors whilst conducting surveys for Wedge-tailed eagles (Wedgies) and other Tasmanian birds of prey (raptors). If you are interested, you can find out more information about Where? Where? 04.01.2022 Here's a great video for learning how to identify Tasmanian raptor (birds of prey) species for those participating in the Where?Where?Wedgie! survey the weekend 10-12 May or the 24-26 May....... it is a great video to watch even if you are not doing the surveys.

02.01.2022 Did you know that in some places in Tasmania, foxgloves are a big weed problem and difficult to control, they may be pretty but are poisonus, the latest Running Postman newsletter has an interesting article on them, along with other articles you may enjoy reading. The Threatened Species Recovery Hub and the Clean Air and Urban Landscapes Hub have collaborated to make the CAUL Urban Wildlife App. A citizen science tool designed to help increase our knowledge of urban wildlife....
