23.01.2022 Gascoyne Gateway will not only unlock the enormous potential of the Gascoyne region, but ensure it is done in a sustainable way. Managing Director Michael Edward recently wrote an op-ed in Business News highlighting the reasons the new port benefits the Exmouth region, including contributing to almost $1b in gross regional product over 25 years, improving the current defence capabilities and, most importantly, building a port with sustainability at the forefront of the design. 23.01.2022 We've just finished our second round of Community Reference Groups with members of the Exmouth community. Managing Director Mick Edwards, Chief Operating Officer Daniel Jackson, and Environmental Scientist Peter Mellor from Gascoyne Gateway joined Exmouth residents to discuss the project's design, environment, economic and community aspects. There was constructive discussion in both groups and lots of ideas and feedback that the project team will consider as part of the conc...eptual design phase. Listen to Daniel Jackson talk about why community reference groups are essential, particularly in the early stages. 22.01.2022 An independent pre-feasibility study conducted by ACIL ALLEN on the economic benefits of Gascoyne Gateway reported 70 ongoing full-time jobs would be created directly at the port once fully operational. An additional 130 jobs would be created indirectly in Exmouth. During the project's construction phase, we expect further indirect local benefits because of our Buy Local procurement approach and commitment to creating economic benefits both in Exmouth and the Gascoyne region.

18.01.2022 Gascoyne Gateway will be undertaking baseline flora and fauna surveys from 23 26 March. Minimal disruption is expected. A 2-person survey team from environmental consultant GHD will be 'on-site' during this time to survey existing flora and fauna species. This survey work will feed into the requirements of the formal impact assessment process under Part IV of the Environmental Protection Act 1986. 13.01.2022 When considering the Gascoyne Gateway jetty's best location, attributes such as strategic significance, water depth, tides, and local wind speeds were all considered. Point Murat Navy Pier has been suggested as an alternative option for building a new jetty during community reference groups. There are several reasons why the Point Murat Pier would not be a viable alternative to the Gascoyne Gateway proposal. The infrastructure cannot support the range of ships being propose...d by Gascoyne Gateway, the facility is over fifty years old, the design of the berth only caters for very large side-slab vessels with a risk of damage posed to V-shaped hull vessels due to wind and strong currents. Critically, while located in zoned defence waters, the 356m wharf is surrounded by the Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Marine Park. Constructed in 1967, Point Murat is also considered by some as one of the best wharf dives in the world with extensive habitat and marine life. To consider an extension, modification or upgrade of this wharf to accommodate other vessels would first require Defence approval to share a Defence asset with the public and multi-millions of taxpayer dollars. Not forgetting the destruction to the marine life and habitat created on the pier and the proximity to the natural reef in the event of a marine incident. While we acknowledge further feasibility studies are required to understand the impacts to other stakeholders that use the Exmouth Gulf and surrounding areas, the current proposed location not only makes the most of the natural seabed depth and the stability of the tides but is also positioned far enough from the Exmouth township in the light industrial zone to minimise the impact on residents.
