22.01.2022 Headaches? Neck pain? What are ergonomics and why are they important? Do you struggle with :... - headaches, - tightness in the neck and shoulders or - lower back pain? Does your job or study have you sitting at a desk for extended period of time? WHY DO I FEEL LIKE THIS? AND WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP MYSELF? Many clients present with lower back pain, tightness in the shoulders and neck, and headaches. In a lot of cases is due to sitting for long hours at a desk. The cause in many circumstances is a form of RSI (repetitive strain injury). And in these circumstances, the repetition is poor posture, sitting or working in a position that puts strain on the neck muscles, shoulder muscles and lower back muscles that in turn can cause headaches and lower back pain. CONSIDER ERGONOMICS Approximately 50% of our workforce are in jobs which involve them sitting for 8-10 hours per day. If you were in a job that had you on your feet for 8 hours a day would you consider your shoes and how you stand and work? The same mindset needs to be used towards desk posture and ergonomics. Poor desk posture can lead to reduced oxygen intake, eyestrain, musculoskeletal conditions, muscle tension and decreased mental health state. DONT STRESS THOUGH YOU CAN MINIMISE THE EFFECTS! Some suggestions to improve your ergonomics are to: Place both feet flat on the ground. Set your chair height so your knees are slightly lower than your hips. Set your screen height to your eye level, so you are not looking down. Use one primary computer monitor to avoid neck rotation Place your mouse within reach to avoid overextending your arm. Move every 1 hour for at least 10 mins. For more ergonomic suggestions visit: https://www.worksafe.qld.gov.au//learning-the-art-of-offic Find out how your sitting affects your health at: https://www.juststand.org/the-tools/sitting-time-calculator/ Our Remedial massage treatments certainly can help relieve the pain, and return more normal range of motion and freedom of movement. But we also talk with our clients about the causes, because just providing pain relief isnt our goal. Our goal is provide improved quality of life and pain relief that is sustainable through education and improving or changing the underlying cause. This usually involves rehabilitative exercise prescription to strengthen weaken muscles, massage to release tension in tight muscles and addressing ergonomics. If you would like to discuss this further with us, or feel that we could help you, click on the Book Now button on our Facebook page or website to make an appointment.

17.01.2022 Massage Therapy Improves Training of Elite Para-Athletes In the past 20 years, the number of disabled athletes, in other words, para-athletes, competing at elite levels has increased, as witnessed by the number of participants at the 2016 Rio Summer Paralympics (4328) compared to the number at the 1996 Summer Paralympics in Atlanta (3255). Para-athletes also have higher incidence and prevalence of injures compared with able-bodied athletes. Given that massage therapy is known... to enhance recovery by reducing pain and fatigue in sport endurance athletes, researchers from Greenville, South Carolina, conducted a study to examine the effect of massage therapy on pain, sleep, stress, function and performance goals on the bike, as well as the quality of life off the bike, in the United States elite paracycling athletes (para-athletes) in training from January 2015 until the Rio Olympics in 2016. The study was published in the journal BMJ Open Sport and Exercise Medicine. http://bmjopensem.bmj.com/content/4/1/e000319 The study involved one team, with nine paracycling participants, in years 2015 and 2016. One-hour massage sessions were scheduled one time per week for 4 weeks, and then every other week for the duration of the time the athlete was on the team and/or in the study. Closed and open-ended survey questions investigating athlete goals, stress, sleep, pain and muscle tightness were gathered pre and post each massage session, and every 6 months for health-related quality of life. The results of the survey were tabulated at baseline, 4-6 months of intervention, and at the end of the study. Additional qualitative data were derived from therapists treatment notes, exit surveys, and follow-up emails from the athletes and therapists. The results showed that massage therapy afforded significant improvement for sleep, muscle tone (tightness), and recovery from workout while in training for paracyclists. The authors concluded that this real-world study provides new information to support massage therapy as a valuable treatment approach for physical improvement during training and recovery after training in elite paracyclists

In light of the current Department of Healths social distancing guidelines, we are putting our clients and therapists health and safety first and will continue to do so. 13.01.2022 If you would like to help me try out these creams, drop me a message, as Im keen to get some feedback . If your interested in trying a massage with one of these creams, get in touch. A nice parcel arrived with these in them. They are massage creams, they are a bit different to use than oils. Ive not done much with creams, but these ones are supposed to be worth looking into.... Arnica is widely used for bruises and sprains, and hopefully should be nice on people that may bruise easier than others. The sports one should be good for athletes warming up and down. The original one, smells refreshing and has a firmer consistency, supposed to be good for foot massages and reflexology .

03.01.2022 CALL TO ACTION: Deadline June 30th! The Medical Board of Australia (MBA) is seeking public feedback on plans to tighten regulations on medical practitioners who... provide complementary therapies and emerging treatments - placing patient choice at risk. If adopted, the MBA guidelines could see Integrative doctors unable to recommend vitamins, minerals, herbal supplements, natural therapies, diagnostic testing and other services not typically offered in conventional medical care. By framing them as fringe, the move is also set to impact the registered health professions of chiropractic, osteopathy, Chinese medicine and acupuncture. Weve made it easy for you to have your say. Click on the link below and let the MBA know why you value access to holistic healthcare and support doctors right to offer it. Together we succeeded in forcing government to re-examine policy on health fund rebates for natural therapies - LETS PROTECT RIGHT OF CHOICE HERE TOO! https://www.yourhealthyourchoice.com.au/mba-submissions/
