24.01.2022 On this day 116 years ago - 10 April 1903 the first ship-to-shore wireless message was sent from HMAS Gayundah off Moreton Island to a receiving station in the ...gardens of St Mary’s Anglican Church where the Centenary Naval Memorial is now. Follow the link to John's post of 13 April last year to refresh your memories. https://www.facebook.com/groups/kangaroopointdistrictshistoricalsociety/permalink/2041368686125929/?hc_location=ufi

24.01.2022 Last week on another face book page i was told because of major refitting of the HMQS Gayundah after her service that all we are trying to preserve is that of an old gravel barge. I would like to know the thoughts of our members on this statement.

23.01.2022 I took this shot four years ago when we first started trying to convince the bureaucrats of the State Government that the HMQS Gayundah was worthy of being preserved for future generations. The struggle is real & the fight goes on to save what is left of this iconic ship.

19.01.2022 A bit rough on the old girl.

18.01.2022 Happy Birthday TS Gayundah

17.01.2022 Have your say on Redcliffe & Bayside Herald FB page before it is too late.

13.01.2022 & what do you think of HMQS Gayundah's new home? A more fitting retirement than her present one, At least she will retire with the dignity that befits her.

11.01.2022 It makes you wonder doesn't it. For five long years we have fought with the Qld State Govt. Parks & Wildlife to preserve what was left of the HMQS Gayundah with a non toxic covering. Until there was hardly anything left to preserve & we were told that we could not go ahead with the preservation of this historic vessel because of environment issues. But now the State Government in all their wisdom gives the go ahead to the Adani mine that can completely wreck The Great Barrier Reef & the central Queensland water table, let alone the damage it will cause to the Condamine River & surrounding wetlands. When it comes to the Environment only money & votes count.

10.01.2022 Would you like to get more involved with the preservation of The Gayundah? Nominations are now open for the 2019 President, Secretary and Treasurer! Applications close December 15! Message us today if you would like more information!

09.01.2022 Sign our Petition below by selecting the 'I Agree' option. Our Petition: We, the undersigned request that the Queensland State Government ‘s Minister of Environment and Science the Honourable Leeanne Enoch, give The Gayundah Preservation Society Inc permission to proceed with the preservation work urgently required to be done, to save the remains of HMQS Gayundah, which has been beached on the Woody Point foreshore for the last 60 years. This historic naval vessel sailed ...as the flagship of the Queensland colonial navy from 1885 and was instrumental in saving Queensland from invasion. She subsequently performed as an Australian warship in World War 1. Thus, the vessel in featuring as an important part in this country’s maritime history should be preserved for the benefit of current and future generations of Australians. #SavetheGayundah #Gayundah
