25.01.2022 Widespread coral bleaching is underway in Tahiti and Moorea, despite no El Nino event this year. "When I first got in the water I was completely disoriented. It... was a carpet of white. The reef there is currently on a knife edge, and we won't know if it recovers for some time." Alarming news.

24.01.2022 Ooh la! We lichen lichen what we see! This here, lichen, is a symbiotic relationship between different organisms: fungus and an alga or cyanobacterium. Some es...timates say there are 20,000 species of lichen worldwide, with over 3000 found in Australia. They grow on most surfaces, from wood to bark or rock or stone, in sea level and alpine regions, and it is estimated that approximately six percent of earth's land surface is covered in lichen. Lichen can absorb potentially toxic compounds, provide food for many animals, and help establish new ecosystems. It can also be quite creative, growing in many different and vibrant colours What do you know about lichen? Photo by Richard McLellan on Charles Darwin Reserve, WA.

23.01.2022 "....And the state with the highest rate of land clearing is Queensland. In that state, in 2015-16, about 395,000 hectares of native vegetation were cleared. Th...at can be hard to visualise, but it's an area roughly the size of Sydney or Melbourne. It's the equivalent of 1,500 football fields cleared per day. "In Queensland alone it's estimated 45 million animals were killed in 2015-16 because of bulldozing of forests - everything from geckos to cockatoos," Dr Taylor said."

18.01.2022 Call on the Victorian state government to shut this killing lodge down. In the shire of Murrindindi tourists are invited to hunt and kill wombats at a luxury hu...nting lodge. A Channel Nine investigation found the owner is a wealthy international businessman, fugitive and associate of Crown casinos. Hurting or killing animals as entertainment is never justified, especially not wildlife. Animals are severely injured and suffer before being killed, and inexperienced tourists using powerful guns pose risks to the local community. https://thenewdaily.com.au//07/29/crown-zhou-wombat-hunt/ See more

18.01.2022 We now have a new "Report a wombat" form on our web site. It's mobile device friendly, easy to use and allows you to simply drop a pin on a map to record both s...treet address and GPS location. Or, in the address line, simply type the suburb, town or street address, which then allows you to pin an accurate address on the map. It's as easy as open....pin....send :) See here..... https://mangemanagement.org.au/report-a-wombat/

17.01.2022 Skippy is choosy about the native grasses they eat. Kangaroos do not graze down to ground level, thereby encouraging growth rather than destroying the pasture.... Some scientists suggest mixed grazing with kangaroos can be beneficial and actually increase farm output. Convinced? If not, then think about the true impact of your local mob of kangaroos. Work on fact and not fiction. See a mob of kangaroos as the equivalent of a single, free-ranging heifer, drifting between your land and that of your neighbours - because this is what they equate to. And it doesn’t seem right to kill off kangaroos just because we ‘think’ they are the culprits in eating all the grass.
