25.01.2022 You know what they say: Those who can't do, teach. I've applied for a job at Tafe as an IT teacher. Wish me luck.

25.01.2022 I LITERALLY cannot be any more specific

24.01.2022 NES 72 Pro Update for those interested. (I've had a few people ask) Each kit will require 2 PCBs and 3 ribbon cables and the 3D printed caddy (which you will have the option to do yourself to save on costs). The PCBs mirror one another (have a look at the original connector to see why). One goes on the game, the other sits on the motherboard connector. Each are connected with the ribbon cables. The position of the game has been moved as far upwards and as far forward as possi...ble to assist with the removal of the game, which if I'm honest is a little bit harsh, but much easier to remove than keeping the game lower. Not 100% happy with it yet, I made a slight error on design and the pins on the assembled one (not pictured) didn't mirror one another properly (very silly), the PCBs pictured have been fixed. The 3D printed caddy needs a little bit of work. I want it to snuggly fit a standard size bolt and nut (the one pictured was just a bolt I had lying around and the cut out for the nut is square shaped). It also takes 6 and a half hours for my machine to print off, I'd like to chop that down if the design can be improved. My spaghetti prototype, which you should be able to find on another post, has so far worked very well. Not sure when it will be complete, I want to see if I can get it a bit better first, but to give you an indication early pricing suggests $29 for the print your own caddy kit, $59 for the complete kit, that is by no means final.

24.01.2022 Premium Cables Project Update: (In order of the Pictures) - Artwork to accompany the Project - PCBs and Prototype RCAs have arrived for testing, I will do this in the next few days, Shown is the XOSVP Inline for Xbox, Wii Component, PS2 Component and SCART AIO. ... I've already noted several things I'd like changed. I won't be going with those exact RCA plugs either, I'm waiting on another order. - Also, I'm going to be experimenting with the braided sleeves so I can run two or 3 separate wires as the cables. I'd like to keep the audio channels shielded separately from the RGB and sync to avoid any buzzing sounds or fuzzy pictures. There were no off the shelf wires I could find that did this - no harm in trying

23.01.2022 FYI for those wondering about the N64 mods, I've ordered 20 Nintendo SCART cables with about a 2 week arrival time that I will reserve for the Mod run. Pricing everything up if I get 10 to do they will be $140 each inc GST and returned back to you. PAL/NTSC/Funtastic/Pokemon are all welcome it doesn't matter. The deblur button will be supplied and installed. NTSC ones will have an option for a 3D printed universal caddy for an extra $14 so you can play US or JP games without... cutting the caddy. I will be asked everyone who sends in a console to send it an Australia Post BX2 Box very well packaged too and that will be how it is returned. I've ordered myself an N64 and an NES set so I can do the mods to consoles I have here so I can take some pictures to show everyone what goes on. My main N64 doesn't have the deblur feature, and I'd like one that has it. We will give the cables some time to catch up, then I will start taking orders If this goes alright the NES will come soon after, hopefully, by then I will have the 72 PRO sorted out for those interested in getting one fitted. Just an educated prediction that the NES RGB mod won't be quite as cheap because the RGB board is 2.5x the cost of the NES one and there's quite a bit more work to do. Nevertheless, it's still worth offering to customers.

23.01.2022 The Listing for the Nintendo RGB Mods is up. I'm going to limit this to 10 places - because of my mishap with the SCART cable shipment I only have 8 Gamecube Cables in Stock. I would like to order the modboards from etim early next week and I will advise everyone soon after so you can ship your console off.... Edit: I just wanted to point out that the cables are optional. The boards are wired to the existing connector. Just please let me know with a note what sort you will be using - there are wiring differences! 7 places/5 Cables Remaining Apologies in advance to anyone who books beyond the 10 Unit/8 Cable Limit, I can't automatically regulate the stock in the online store with the all the options offered, anyone ordering over will be contacted and receive a full refund https://www.malleetechnologies.com.au//n64-nintendo-64-rg/

21.01.2022 Now that I've finished building the Batch 3 OSSCs, would anyone be interested in a group Nintendo 64 RGB mod group deal? For those who don't know what it is, an RGB Board is like an Ultra HDMI (kind of) but you need a SCART cable and an OSSC or frame miester to do the HDMI bit. To give you an idea, I usually do these for $150 locally. I can just buy the hdmi boards for $250, let alone put it in a customer's console.... In all honesty there's probably not much I could chop out of the price to make the RGB mods cheaper, but I thought of at the very least approaching etim to see if he could do me a deal on bulk boards and if I brought the 10 pack of aust post bags for console returns. It can't hurt to gauge interest, right? Please let me know your ideas, any questions and if you are remotely interested. If there's ends up being enough interest I'll see what I can come up with in terms of a formal proposal and price. Anything that would help make it more affordable for people to get an RGB N64 I figure the better. Current listing (subject to change): Ideal for collectors and enthusiasts who prefer gaming on original hardware. High quality RGB video. Works Include: Fitting of etims RGB mod board to suit OSSC and SCART CRTs Toggle Switch installed for the de-blur function (disables the anti aliasing) Return Shipping Australia wide There will also be an option for NTSC console owners for a 3D printed cartridge caddy, so that you can play either Japanese or American games, without chopping the original caddy.

21.01.2022 Gamecube Component Mod Update/Thoughts: One of the main issues with getting this off the ground is that a chip used in the design (The CDK3404 if that means anything to you) (circled) is now obsolete. I'm trying to work out a replacement. Another big one is the proprietary digital connector. The external design, unfortunately, has to go. I was quoted $2000 USD to make up the mold and jig to make the male connector with absolutely no guarantee that it will work. That was befo...re I got any made. There are also reports from other external solutions that if you bump the connector, it has a possibility to short out a data line with a 12v line, thereby killing a perfectly good Gamecube. I'd like to explore the possibility of removing the Digital connector with the desolder pump, putting the board in a caddy and using a 4 post 3.5mm jack to output component video. There's lots of room when that connector is gone, it would be very reliable, robust and very clean. I will keep persevering.

21.01.2022 Update: After a lot of work and thought I'm pretty happy so far with the drafts of the SCART AIO PRO (new name), XOSVP Inline (rework) and Component Separator to be used in the premium cables project. I realize that not all SCART applications will need the sync stripper, the 2 switches, and the 3.5mm jack, so it is my intention to design a SCART AIO to go alongside the SCART AIO PRO, that doesn't have all of that dangly shit hanging off it haha. Included here is also a rough ...sketch showing some ideas for the premium cables. I've also made a tiny revision to The 72 PRO that will hopefully make it more reliable and easier to remove the game. Still using the game caddy here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3243710 Tomorrow I will hopefully fit my N64 and NES with the RGB boards for the upcoming mod run and showcase them for you and I'd like to place my orders for physical PCBs so I can try out tomorrow too. Anyway, thanks for reading and please let me know what you think

20.01.2022 RGB Boards for the N64 have been ordered from etim this morning!

20.01.2022 Premium cables project update: Albeit highly experimental, but instead of a XOSVP how about a DCOSVP? (that's also a **literally** perfect addon to the OSSC)

19.01.2022 For those interested in the upcoming N64 and NES RGB Mods, these here rocked up today. The NES one the left, the N64 one on the right and a Tim Tam. (why? I don't know) When I get time I'll put them in some consoles I have here, take some decent pictures, capture some video through the OSSC and spruce up the shop listing for them so everyone knows exactly what they are getting done.

17.01.2022 Timelapse of a 72 PRO getting printed, need to film it from a different angle next time

17.01.2022 I've shown my mum how to scan things, but I think it's time I showed her how to take a screenshot on her phone...

16.01.2022 Another 72 PRO update (as I haven't done one for a while) Printed Parts: Hopefully, what will be the final design in the printer on normal quality as I write this, I've redesigned a few things which has nearly cut an hour off the print time in my machine (from 6hr 30min to 5hr 36 min). On a suggestion, I added hexagonal holes in the mounts to allow for nylock nuts.... PCB: I've neatened the tracks on the little PCB and made it 25mm in height (not 26.4mm for some reason) it should also fit neatly on the back of the unit, rather than sit hanging outwards like on previous versions. I've got more of the 72 pin connectors and several of the latest PCBs on the way so I can make a few for testing before I decide if I will release these for production. I should point out too that the printed parts in the pictures below were printed on draft settings, just in case you notice they look a bit janky.

15.01.2022 64 Ideal for collectors and enthusiasts who prefer gaming on original hardware. High-quality RGB video. Works Include:... Fitting of etims RGB mod board to suit OSSC and SCART CRTs Toggle Switch installed for de-blur function Will be wired for a Gamecube Cable unless specified (contact me) Return Shipping Australia-wide Starts from $130 inc GST https://www.malleetechnologies.com.au//n64-nintendo-64-rg/

15.01.2022 Just thinking out loud, after I finish my videos on the OSSCs and RGB I might do one on Tetris 64 and the heart rate monitor

13.01.2022 Premium cables project update: I was hunting through various websites for part numbers today and found these, spec wise they seem to fit the bill between excessively expensive and reasonably ok/pretty good. Because of the color choices I can use the same model for almost all RCA wiring (component/composite/audio etc). I'm interested to hear any thoughts anyone has. It's very experimental and I have to check the legalities of implementing it (it's not necessarily open source),... but I may have found my dreamcast VGA design. No proprietary plugs have turned up as yet, but I have had confirmation that my prototype PCBs for the separators, XOSVP inline and the SCART AIO PRO have been manufactured and shipped.

13.01.2022 Got this nice picture I took of the full moon (Dated: 13/09/2019 8:08PM) First Image is raw from the camera Second is rotated 90 degrees (so that the moons northern pole is upwards) auto levelling and curves have been applied... Third has all of the Apollo Landing Sites and the approximate crash sites of Beresheet (11 April 2019) and Vikram (7 September 2019) layed over it Shackleton Crater, unfortunately, is not visible in this picture, but it is not far from the Vikram crash site at the moons south pole. At this point in time, it will be highly likely that it will be where we see next see a human set foot on the moon as part of Artemis 3 in 2024.

13.01.2022 Me messing around with the new VR camera

13.01.2022 Yes!! I think I just found a plug supplier for my own SCART and component leads that I was having trouble getting the parts to make. They have the heads for the Nintendo (SNES/N64 and Gamecube), PlayStation 1 & 2 and OG Xbox. To cut a long story short I ordered a lot of 50 Nintendo ones and Playstation ones to test them out. I've left the SCART AIO board (layout is pictured and prototype) on the back burner, but now with this development, after I sort out the 72 pro I'll certainly be continuing work on it, I want to add a few more features and to take advantage of smaller components.

12.01.2022 Just following on from my post yesterday about the premium cables. I'm trying not to get too far ahead of myself, but I've ordered some OG Xbox ones as well and I've forked the XOSVP project from GitHub in the hope that I can modify it to make it fit into a friendlier package. One of the features XOSVP has is the ability to pull TOSLINK optical audio from the Xbox. Is there any interest in me trying to implement this as well or not really? This allegedly is also possible with the GameCube to component modboard, though I have put this on the back burner for the time being due to a part required no longer being available and the difficulty in sourcing GameCube digital connectors.

12.01.2022 I'm about to call it stumps for the night, but for those interested, I've tried to improve my draft prototype of the SCART AIO board for my premium cables and I've drawn a rough draft for the XOSVP for the OG Xbox component cables. Still a bit of work to do on both but surface mount components have been used instead of through hole, I did want through hole stuff so it was easier to put together but this way seems to be easier and neater to fit everything in and I can use OSSC... parts. Two switches have been added so you can toggle the 3.5mm audio jack. (Not necessary for everything but ideal for Sega MD Model 1, Sega CD (I think?) and Neo Geo). The other one is to toggle the sync stripper (on the rear) again not necessary for everything, but helpful in certain cases. With a bit of luck, you can visualize what it will end up like hopefully by looking at the first 2 pictures. See more

12.01.2022 Just finished 6x 12hr nights at the winery this morning at 7am, so I have shitloads to do for MT this weekend. 1x N64 RGB install 1x N64 RGB repair (sorry) 1x OSSC repair 1x brand new OSSC build (I will document how I build this one)... No less than 10 OSSCs that I need to get up to spec before sale Install and cost my NES etims RGB mod Install and cost my AV famicom etims RGB mod Install and test the ribbon cables for the 72 PRO that came in on Thursday Test the SCART sync stripper portion of the SCART AIO to work out why it didn't work, but everything else was fine while testing Get the Inline XOSVP up to spec for the OG xbox Test the new cable for the component leads that came in on Friday. Phew! See more

10.01.2022 Premium Cables Project Update: These here rocked up today, time for me to work out the best way to hook them up to the wires.

09.01.2022 I'm being real calm boys and girls, real calm. Bring on the premium ones so I don't have to deal with this dodgy shit!

08.01.2022 I tried experimenting with a time-lapse video today on the printer with the pi cam - only to be greeted with a jammed nozzle! Yay...

08.01.2022 Tonight's effort is a draft for the Component Separator, which will be used in the PS2 & Wii cables. Two cables in, five out. Eventually, when and if I get the component video out of the Gamecube this part could also be used there too

08.01.2022 A few random pictures of the OSSC builds thus far... 20 ready from the new batch, 2 repaired from old batch. All that's left is the TV test, program the remotes and package them up, send them off

07.01.2022 I think this version of the XOSVP for my component cables will get a physical prototype made up for testing, or at least close to it. I've done a newish layout and cutouts for cable ties. It's still going to be reasonably big, but hopefully more user-friendly. Doing a 2 cable run from the Xbox Plug to the XOSVP to try to minimize the electronic noise coming off the video lines which is rife in all the Chinese cables I've had anything to do with. (capacitive coupling) I found some figure 8 2 core shielded cable online, I ordered 100m of it. I would like to factor this into the SCART AIO design and do a 3D print of the board for testing inside the SCART socket before I get a physical prototype made. I'm still fussing over what shielded cable to use for the rest of the lines. Hmmmmm.

04.01.2022 Premium Cables Update: Still waiting on a few things to come in. Experimented with the cable relief for the Nintendo connectors, I can change the insides of these to suit whatever cables I use. Sony one needs a major rework as it's too small as it is. These are basically a copy of the original ones, I might need to make a new design. Xbox doesn't need one, the prototype of the XOSVP fits a Cat6 and Audio cable through comfortably. Very pleased with the RCA connectors and how they are assembled. Nice and strong.

03.01.2022 For anyone who *literally* has nothing better to do I fixed the printer and made it stream to my twitch account haha It's printing out a 72 PRO caddy https://www.twitch.tv/malleetech123

03.01.2022 So. I ordered 20 Nintendo SCART cables for the round of N64 RGB mods. I received 7 Nintendo cables and 13 Sony cables. Why? I have absolutely no idea. Nothing's ever easy.

02.01.2022 Before I went to work this evening I was trying out my new support plugin for my website and my email app on my phone kept going off. When I checked it I had 9831 "new" emails. It turns out that it made a support ticket for all the emails in my inbox, then it made one for all of the acknowledgements that it delivered to my inbox. Suffice it to say thats not what I wanted to do lol It's now disabled until I get more time to work on it so if you have received a weird email from me please disregard it and accept my apologies.
