05.01.2022 #mondaymeditation ‘In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.’ (Psalm 4, ESV) There are some very rare times that ...a day comes to a neat conclusion. More often than not we fall asleep in the middle of things, unanswered questions, unfinished tasks, worry. These things can bully us more at night. But there is such a simple, humbling, sweet surrender in sleep. We must lay the things we carry down for a time. The Lord is God. Those whose trust is wide awake in Him find true rest. Psalm 4 is written not from a calm place but from a distressed one. Yet even as circumstances remain unresolved the composer’s spirit is resolved to lie down in peace, trusting the One who keeps his soul. One of the ways he does this is to remember that it is the joy in the Lord that steadies and sustains Him, that is the constant, beyond all earthly treasure. ‘You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound.’ It is the joy in the Lord of peace and order, of beauty and holiness, of hope and help. Of a dwelling that is always safe because it is in Him. Beautiful music often leads us there - its beauty, its rightness draws us to our Creator and Saviour. It can pull us out of dark places, speak for us. My brain was rushing at high speed today, lots of pieces not quite fitting together. As the girls were going to sleep tonight Arioso from Cantata 156 by Johann Bach, played by the wonderful David Kim, was on repeat. The word Arioso literally means ‘airy’ and this piece of music opens a window and lets the air in! It is a challenge to be at rest within the restlessness. I hope this music helps keep your heart upward today particularly when the day comes to a close. ‘They slumber sweetly whom faith rocks to sleep’ (Spurgeon) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VaZEANdaE7A https://open.spotify.com/track/0DLqdqUZPR0xR6qNV8w2f0 (Recording available on all digital platforms)

02.01.2022 The amazing thing is that Easter is not the end of the story! It is the doorway into all that God has planned for us as His people.

01.01.2022 This is going to be great exploration - and celebration - of Christian faith in Australia.
