22.01.2022 True or false? Cadaghi (Corymbia torelliana) can kill bees, claims Gwen in Queensland. 1) It is FALSE to allege this Australian plant kills bees. Careful work b...y Queenslander H. Wallace revealed that stingless bees are attracted to the resin inside cadaghi gumnuts. These bees enter the gumnuts to collect resin for building their colony and as they do so many get seeds stuck on their body. Next, they fly to their nest. The seed are very heavy compared to the weight of these tiny bees, so the bees struggle to carry the seed. So before, during and after the flight they try to remove the seeds, dropping them as they go, helping to disperse this tree. Stingless bees provide long distance dispersal of cadaghi seeds and they are rewarded with a viable source of nest-building resin. This is a mutually beneficial relationship. It is false to claim this tree harms stingless bees in any way. 2) Good gardeners know that cadaghi is weedy and unwanted outside its natural range. Each year I get heaps of seedlings germinating in my garden, they're easily removed when young. But in bushland, along roads and railway lines it is a different story. This tropical eucalypt has a dense crown, so when it grows in more widespread open-crowned eucalypt forest in subtropical Queensland and NSW this shade impairs regeneration. 3) Anyone who gardens beneath this tree also knows how successfully sap-sucking pests colonise this tree and that they exude copious amounts of honeydew onto the foliage of plants living under them. Prolific amounts of sooty mould growing on the foliage of plants living underneath cadaghi trees are often the wake up call for people to contact me to ask what the problem is and how to solve it. Three applications of horticultural oil, applied three weeks apart controls sap sucking pests and the sooty mould their feeding encourages. Thoroughly coat every leaf, shoot and stem of the affected plant during the warm seasons and this allows your plants to get by. However, since cadaghi is an environmental weed, the best solution is to remove it and replant with an appropriate species. 19.01.2022 Thought we would pass this on for those who may be interested

18.01.2022 Would anyone in here be interested in a garden blitz meetup group? The idea is that we meet up fortnightly or monthly and all work on someone's garden for a few... hours. We can get a lot done if there are many of us. Then if you attend a couple of days you are eligible to have your garden blitzed! The person who is hosting is responsible for providing all the materials needed and organising everything plus providing a little picnic for the workers. Let me know if this would interest you.

Not people to wash faces Just to clarify (for Sandra Kosegi) they just want material face washers. Nothing else. No other linen. No mum. Nothing else. For those that can’t get there - if you live near Elanora your welcome to drop them to me Friday & Saturday (let me know & we’ll organise a box out the front) or I’ll be at Harbourtown 10 til 5 Saturday & you can drop them to me at work. I’ll drop them to the hospital Sunday.

12.01.2022 HI ALL. IMPORTANT FROM ..........GREEN HARVEST SEEDS... SEED GROWERS NEEDED URGENTLY! Would you be able to post this for me please? Hi folks, I am looking not for seeds but for seed growers interested in producing larger quantities of open pollinated heirloom seed for income. My heirloom seed business relies on a network of growers and this year demand is high but due to drought and bushfire many seed crops have failed. I am mainly looking for cucumber, melon, pumpkin, corn and capsicum seed but you are welcome to contact me about other seeds. The basic criteria to be a seed grower is understanding pollination requirements and keeping good records of the variety being grown. I am passionate about maintaining the availability of heirloom open pollinated seed in Australia and would appreciate your help. Kind regards Frances CEO Green Harvest. PS This is Rasa I will get an email address soon for you to reply to Frances. In the meantime. Look up Green Harvest Seeds online and contact her there. Thanks Rasa
