25.01.2022 Its the ride we all look forward to the most. The GC Steelers trip out to Disneyland for coffee and refreshments with our wonderful hosts, Christine and Graeme.... After a stinking hot Friday it was a pleasant riding temperature on the Saturday morning as we rode down to meet up with the crew outside Storm Cycles at Tugun. Id been awake since 3.30am in anticipation but Rogerre du Duffie had decided to join me on a casual ride from my place to put some decent ks in the legs so we didnt leave til 5.30am. It would be a quicker ride south now! We were well warmed up after a brisk run down the GC Highway and it was good arrive to see such a great roll up of riders and fine steelery! The smoke from the fires was very evident and it was almost hard to make out where the ocean was as it just blended into the sky. The Tweed and Piggabeen Valleys are always fantastic places to ride but the drought was very evident with little water in the creeks. Even so, it didnt stop John from carrying his Tommasini pride and joy across the wet stuff. By the time we got to the Disneys we were well hungry and thankfully Rob had left some of Christines home made carrot cake for the guys who did the full course and the 8 creek crossings. We could have relaxed on the old Queenslanders verandah for hours but alas we had to get back. The temperature was rising and the beer was calling. Some new bikes (well not new) in the group and some cool projects in the making. It was good to have Mirco along for his first ride with us on his nice Colnago Super. Good to see he wasnt afraid to get it dirty either! Anyway, after some amber refreshments Rogerre and I made it back to Runaway Bay with a pit stop at The Paddock. Another great ride and over too soon. Till next time.

23.01.2022 BALINA Bicycle club are having a Steel ride this Sunday 16th Feb, 9:30 start, 55k , leave back of tavern same as last year...see their Facebook page for more details... cheers Steve

22.01.2022 I've been off the bike for 2 months so it was so good to put in 120km today on a mystery ride around Brisbane. Took the old Kenevans out and rode in the spirit of Noosa Strade Bianche (which should have been on this weekend). I wore a special design I did for the 10th Anniversary of this iconic event. What a cracker of a day for Winter! Needed to head into the red wine recovery room when I got home though!

21.01.2022 Monthly Steelers ride Saturday 4th JANUARY Start at Nerang Velodrome at 6:30 am Ride to BROADBEACH Waters, coffee at Coffee Sisters Return to Nerang, 2 routes Easy and a few hills will discuss at Start...

21.01.2022 Any time you combine a Brewery, steel bikes and old dudes who love both you are pretty much guaranteed a good ride. Rogerre and myself decided to roll into Brisbane from Redland Bay to meet Cam Hill and the gathered steel lovin folk for the inaugural QUAC Newstaed Brewery Retro ride. It was a terrific roll up of classic bikes and a great bunch of riders. Good to see Monty out with his Colnago although we do need to find him some sleeves. Davide Hassellini was unusually late ...on arrival as his team mechanics were up all night building his purdy Cinelli SC. Everyone had brought out there finest and werent afraid to put on the pace later on the ride. The sun was biting on the leg home and the last 10km my beerometre was in the red zone. Newstead Brewery put on a huge fruit platter for us on arrival as well as a bucket of frozen Super Doopers! They went down well. A couple of beers and a burger and we were all coming back to life after a testing 70ks. Frame building and paint legend, Joe Cosgrove joined us on the ride and gave us a bit of an insight into what he does when we got back to the Brewery. Hmmm, 953 are magic numbers. With another 40km to get back to Redland Bay in 100 degree heat me and Rogerre decided on the sensible option of taking the train back. Still got 110km in so happy days. Really enjoyed the ride and great to see a fantastic rollup of classic bikes. Looking forward to the next edition already. Keith Bremner See more

20.01.2022 It was a warm ride to Osteria down over the border in Casurina with the GC Steelers recently. A good turnout of riders and steelies made the trip and Osteria didn't disappoint. The pies are the best and washed down with an ice cold beer before a pastry and coffee makes the trip back to the GC an enjoyable one. A couple of mechanicals but the rest in the shade was appreciated. Lat's put in a great effort and made it all the way but realised his 2 year beer binge wasn't good for his training! Cheers guys and gal for an a most enjoyable morning.

20.01.2022 They say alls well that ends well (sort of) and thats how the last Retro Carbon and Alloy of 2019 ride panned out on the weekend. A new cafe had been scouted out down past SALT Village so we were all keen to try something different to our favourite French Patisserie. Rogerre du Duffie and myself cruised down the coast from Labrador and were in Tugun with plenty of time up our sleeves (so we thought) so we decided to grab a coffee. After being politely told to go elsewher...Continue reading

17.01.2022 New lacquer on the garage door!

17.01.2022 The rain stayed away and cool air under blue skies were the horrific conditions we had to endure on our monthly trip to Disneyland. The creek levels were up which was great to see and new face Marko Johnsonito didnt shy away from getting his feet wet and mud on his frame. Picked up a few random cyclists ambling along the Piggabeen Valley who turned out to be related to the long lost cousin of a distant Italian aunty of Davide Hassellinis bella donna. The dynamic duo of Robe...rto Harcourtino and Anna Finlandia were in fine form on the tandem and surprisingly suffered NO mechanicals! John came straight from the casino after spending all night in the Tahitian Lounge Bar but still rode like a trooper. A few flat tyres for Raymondo but as always the trip to the Disneys was a sensational ride. Christine puts on one of the best morning teas on the Gold Coast. A fantastic selection of classic Italian, British and Aussie steel was on display lined up outside Disneyland and made an impressive sight against the white picket fence. Be there next time!

17.01.2022 Hi Steelers, saw this kit at Nerang today, thought Im that could be the basis for a Retro GC Steelers Alloy Carbon shirt with a little magic from KB...

15.01.2022 Ive been off the bike for 2 months so it was so good to put in 120km today on a mystery ride around Brisbane. Took the old Kenevans out and rode in the spirit of Noosa Strade Bianche (which should have been on this weekend). I wore a special design I did for the 10th Anniversary of this iconic event. 12.01.2022 Best of All Lookout was the perfect outing for the mystery KENEVANS in the new paint (inspired by Pegoretti).

11.01.2022 Cinelli Supercorsa. A week seems like a long time ago with this rain. Good days for some polishing and maintenance.

11.01.2022 The players from last weekends Currumbin Run.

10.01.2022 There is no better way to start a retro ride than with a strong Long Black and some Italian pastries so La Dolce Vita at Park Road was the perfect place to congregate before rolling out. A fantastic turnout again with some amazing steelies along for the ride. The star of the day though was the legendary Robert Cobcroft on his beautiful Llewellyn. He would go on to entertain us all after the ride with stories from when he used to race in Europe and of course of his extensive knowledge of Bianchi X4s! Very interesting stuff enjoyed over a few beers at Newstead Brewery. It was a bit cooler than last months ride but it didnt slow the boys down once they got the sniff of beer on the return leg from Boondall Wetlands. All good fun and another safe ride in the company of a fantastic bunch of blokes and lady!

09.01.2022 Blokes on Carbon ask why I ride this old steely. They may never know if they never give one a go. I love riding this old CARRERA Columbus EL. Looking forward to riding down to Osteria on the weekend with the GC Steelers.

08.01.2022 Coronavirus Precautions & Cycling While cycling is clearly a wonderful way to beat of the Coronavirus blues, there are a number of common sense precautions riders should take. These include - -Feeling even marginally unwell? Dont ride with others. We all have a responsibility to reduce the spread of this illness and all precautions must be taken. Sometimes getting out for a ride can be a great way to clear the system but our advice is to go alone and not put others at risk.... -Groups. Our advice would be to stick with smaller groups and / or ride solo. Remember people can have the virus and not show symptoms. Discuss your concerns when planning a ride and be aware of each other recent travel history, hygiene habits and general awareness of COVID-19. -Hygiene. Pack antibacterial hand cleaner with you on each and every ride. Clean your hands before, during and after the ride - and definitely as you stop at the coffee shop or meet up with others. -Touch. Studies have shown humans touch their faces some 3,000 to 5,000 times per day! Astonishing figures great to keep in mind as a reminder to limit hand and finger contact with your eyes, nose, ears and mouth. -Space. Social Distancing seems the latest buzzword but it is a very important aspect to keeping the spread of disease and illness at bay. Maintain a safe distance from other riders when on the bike and at the cafe afterwards. -Helmets & Gloves. Stopping for that mid or post-ride coffee? Remove your helmet and gloves and leave them with your bike. Your mates dont want sweat-soaked equipment on the table. See more

08.01.2022 WIth the CARRERA Nemo stripped down for repair it was good to get out on the CARRERA EL for a spin to Burleigh Heads this morning. Rides real nice on the Zondas.

07.01.2022 It was an early start for Roberto, Rogerre and Alexi who travelled down to Tugun from Redland Bay to meet the GC Steelers for the ride out to Currumbin. Steelers seemed to come from everywhere and it was a great crew with some fantastic steelies out for the ride. Always a great ride out to Currumbin on the roads used for the Commonwealth Games being fast and smooth. Great to see a couple of new faces join the group and they enjoyed the experience. Also good to see the Dust Temple operating like it used to, great food and coffee handled by awesome staff in a artsy, quirky location. It was great to ride with the GC Steelers again. It was a long hot ride back to Redland Bay and a few beers were required for recovery!

07.01.2022 Well a few of the GC Steelers have migrated to the Redland Bay area but the retro spirit is alive and kicking! Roberto Harcoutini had never ridden over The Gateway Bridge so together with Rogerre du Duffie, Igorki Gedrricini and Alexi Bremnovski and an ex pro picked up along the waywe set off for a ride to Brisbane for breakfast at Belle L'Eoche French cafe. The route took us along some interesting cycle paths, plenty of character building hills and eventually over the bridge... before following the beautiful Brisbane River through New Farm around to the Botanical Gardens and into Southbank. Breakfast went down well but the heat of the days was rising and the plan was always to get the train back part of the way to give Roberto a bit of a breather but the lines were down for maintenance so the next option was to catch a bus. We got back on the road again just past Wellington Point and headed for Cleveland for a beer at the Grand View Hotel. Roberto seemed to get a second wind from there, even refusing to accept a lift in the Rogerre's Team Car, powering on back to Redland Bay with Alexi and Igorki... for another beer. A real adventure and a great ride in good company and spirit. Must do it again. See more

05.01.2022 Great turn out for spring ride. Nice to have a few new faces in the group.

03.01.2022 The sound of a text message from Roberto coming through at 4.45am meant I'd slept in and that I'd be chasing the group if I was to take part in the GC Steelers Christmas ride to Brisbane. I hadn't ridden a bike for 2 weeks and the legs were burning by the time I caught the group at Capalaba. It was a great roll up of the guys and gal from the Gold Coast for Rogers magical mystery tour to Brisbane via the Gateway Bridge. Plenty of laughs along the way made the trip to Belle Le... Epoche for a magnifique French breakfast all the more enjoyable. Rogerre survived a close call with an impatient concrete truck and we got a whole rides worth of entertainment out of his encounter. You could say it was a good cement mix of steel, alloy and carbon today. After breakfast we tried in vain to get a beer but the pub didn't open until 11am!!!! What is wrong with this country! We were looking after a few older riders today so we decided to jump on the train back to Cleveland to have a beer at the Grand View Hotel before the ride home. Todays ride proved that it's not always about putting in the big k's. Great company, delicious food, a few beers and a lot of laughs with a fantastic group of riders. We look forward to doing many more rides in the New Year! See more

03.01.2022 The ride to Currumbin was a bit wet but it didnt dampen the speed and enthusiasm of this old bunch of steelies! Nice to have Rodney along riding the legendary Roger Dodger REPCO. Coffee and cake at the Dust Temple while it was pouring rain was the best place to be.

03.01.2022 Before the world went mad we used to enjoy a ride to a wonderful place called Disneyland.

02.01.2022 Well times are a changin and a few bikes and frames need to be let go so this beautiful mid 90s CARRERA TITANIZED will be sadly missed from my collection. Probably just selling frameset at this stage. Will post pics soon.

02.01.2022 The Kenevans is back on the road!
