25.01.2022 106 people, 84 dogs, 90 odd sausages, 18 fancy dress costumes, 13 brave limbo contestants and the GDLAWA Annual Funday is a wrap! We’ll be posting some fun photos later, but just wanted to post a big thank you to the stallholders who came to the beautiful grounds of the German Shepherd Dog Association Of Western Australia in Southern River where the FUn Day was held this year. These stall holders are all regulars at this event and we greatly appreciate their attendance & supp...ort! Slobberlicious is an ongoing Club sponsor, and their stall donates a percentage of members sales back to the Club, which is awesome! And their presence allows members to stock up on a wide range of healthy hand made jerkys & biscuits. Sue Bradtke from Sue Bradtke at Stride Into Wellness was offering mini Bowen sessions to our member's dogs, and boy didn’t they love it! A huge number of Dane owners swear by her healing hands, and whilst you may be skeptical to start with, the proof is in the pudding. Your dogs will love you for it. The team at Reggie Rope make amazing leads! I’m pretty sure that 90% of Dane owners in WA use Reggie Rope leads.because not only are they super strong, and have features like the traffic handle (absolutely essential for any large dog), and screw lock carabiners but they come in fabulous colours and a few very useful lengths. And lastly, we had a food truck! We were so excited and Chai from Burg N Skew did not let us down. He was reliable, wonderful to deal with and his, food was well priced & most importantly super-yummy! Thanks a million guys <3 We all had a great day and hope you did too. Photos of the event on the way soon!

24.01.2022 Tana is down Bunbury way. Please share to friends in the SW who might be interested and suitable.

23.01.2022 GDLAWA are not just an amazing Great Dane pet owner group, we assist with rehoming, rescue and foster of Great Danes in need in WA. We never know what’s coming up needing a home next, however we rarely get Danes under about 8 or 9 months old. They are usually from 1 year old through to the most senior of Great Danes. We sometimes advertise them here among other places, but most of the Great Danes that we place are not advertised at all. This is because we run a list of po...tential homes. We get to know people who are looking to open their hearts and homes to a fully grown Great Dane and then if a suitable match comes up, we can place the Dane quickly, with minimal disruption to the dog and with out the need to foster while we advertise. Every Great Dane has different needs and requirements, no dog is perfect and the level of training and socialisation can vary dramatically. It is not a necessity for you to have owned a Great Dane before. What we value most is that you're open to learn the breed, are a committed dog home and take seriously the giant responsibility that comes with owning a giant breed. If you’re interested in finding out more about how we work and possibly joining our list of potential homes, please get in touch with Lisa Godber ([email protected] 0438 833 626) who coordinates our services or message our page. If you need to look at the possibility of rehoming your Great Dane please contact us for assistance. We don’t judge and will do our very best to help where we can.

22.01.2022 This is Pluto, he’s a 5 year old Great Dane X Staffy looking for his forever home. He is not tall like a full Great Dane but he’s a very solid large lovable bo...y. Pluto is quite the character, with lots of goofy playfulness going on. He knows how to be very gentle and will take food from your hand beautifully. In contrast if he’s presented with a whole lot of new scent and animals, like he was on a recent stay on property, it’s all a bit too much and he becomes more distracted trying to take it all in. We are looking for a more suburban type property for his home with out stock over a fence that he can see and smell. He has beautiful inside manners. NCIS is his favourite show and he a bit of a man crush on Gibbs - he’ll come running when he hears his voice. Pluto will lay calmly on his bed with few reminders and is happy to settle when inside. Whilst Pluto has lived with cats previously, if we were to consider cats again it would need to be a very dog savvy cat. Pluto could easily go with another large dog. He’s lived with a female Great Dane and loves a play. He could be an only dog but would need considerable time to adjust to being on his own and require one to two walks a day. Pluto is a vocal dog and barking could be an issue if he’s left alone outside without company. Pluto is strong on-lead and will need an experienced large dog owner to manage him and work on his lose lead walking skills. In the past Pluto has socialised well off lead with other dogs however we recommend slow introductions for him. Pluto loves to play with his humans while making his piggy snort noise. This boy is lots of fun and will make his new family very happy. Please contact Lisa on 0438 833 626, [email protected] or message to enquire. See more

21.01.2022 Western Australia - not suitable for interstate adoption This is Millie, she’s what we believe to be a Great Dane crossed with perhaps Mastiff & Ridgeback (she has a ridge). She is only 10 months old and already over 50kg. She’s not likely to grow as tall as a pure Great Dane but will be a solid large/giant dog. She has been living with another two dogs and has done well with all other dogs. The older female in the home however is now not happy with her presence and they are ...unable to be together. She would be suited to go with another male dog. She has lived with small and large dogs and gets along equally well with both. Millie has lived with school age kids as young as 7 and done great with them. She travels well in the car. She’s not been tested at all with cats but will chase chickens up a fence line if she has access she would not be suited to be around chickens and to be on the safe side probably not cats either. Millie is used to wearing a boundary collar which keeps her in rural fencing - otherwise she will go through this type of fencing. She’s ready for more lead training but does ok currently. Millie’s a beautiful affectionate girl, please let me know asap if you would like to give her a home and have any further questions about her. This is an urgent rehome. 19.01.2022 HELP! Kippy’s foster home hasn’t worked out. There are too many off lead dogs in the area making it difficult for her foster carers to feel comfortable to walk her. She can walk just fine in an onlead area as many of you will know if you’ve seen her at a GDLA walk. On Saturday Kippy is having to go into kennels. As wonderful as Mark at Bigfoot is, a home is what we want for her. She got rave reviews for her manners in the home and really enjoyed her backyard to bounce ar...ound in and chill under the mulberry tree. Please put your thinking caps on people. For those who don’t know Kippy, she is a sweet 7-year-old petite girl. She just needs her own space and doesn’t cope with off lead dogs running up to her. She doesn’t mind well behaved kids but we will avoid a home with any other animals. She can cope with being left for a work day but may need a little time to settle and work up to it. See more

19.01.2022 You might remember a couple of months ago we (GDLAWA) rehomed the lovely Rosie (Black, Female, 5 year old Dane, currently located in Hopetown 6348 if anyone down that way is interested). Unfortunately, due to a change in her new homes circumstances that no-one could have seen coming, Rosie is back looking for that happily ever after. Her new owners are gutted as they absolutely love her. This time around we know a little more about her from her last couple of months in her ne...w home, she is a super happy girl! She’s learned how to walk on a halti and is getting the hang of it but can be very excitable at the start of the walk. Once settled, she can pass by almost anything that comes her way without too much trouble. Although she wasn’t socialised for much of her life in her short time in the new home she has met and befriended many dogs. So we know now that she could in fact be a great second doggo to a dog savvy home, with someone (both dog and human) who could handle her excitement. Rosie is such an enthusiastic girl and could likely be too much for a lot of reserved dogs. She can cope being on her own but only for a very short workday and would need 3-4 days to settle in before her first day alone. Ideally, we’re looking for a home that has people home more often than not or another male dog for company. Rosie doesn’t particularly like being left and can cry for a bit at first. Rosie is looking for a cat free home, she is basically untested in this area and we need her next home to be absolutely perfect. She seems to have a normal curiosity of stock and while not proven with free access to stock, with appropriate fencing and supervision Rosie could live on property. Small kids wouldn’t be easy to manage with her as her tail is in a constant joyful motion and is quite the weapon! She loves people and a home with school age kids would be perfect. Rosie has a bunch of toys she loves to play with. She’d love nothing more than to be inside with her people but may take a little time to settle into house rules. She’s not destructive and eager to learn. Please get in touch with Jana on 0413 431 764 or pm our page if you think Rosie is your girl. See more

15.01.2022 Can you or anyone you know help Mac find a new home or foster carer? Please share or contact us for more information. Mac is now in Perth and with a foster carer but has proven to be extremely difficult to manage around her cats and urgently needs a new foster or forever home. There is some Great Dane in there, he's a loving affectionate boy with a lot of bounce and prey drive. https://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/815115

14.01.2022 Kippy's owner is starting her move over seas and the first visit away is in the coming weeks. We really don't want Kippy to get bounced around so if you're possibly considering opening your heart to this sweet girl please get in touch. A stable foster will be a good start!

12.01.2022 *** ON HOLD *** ON HOLD *** ON HOLD *** *** Dudley's family can't go through with with homing him and are going to put more measures in place to keep the tiny fury critters safe so they can see if they can keep Dudley.

12.01.2022 One of our GDLAWA Fun Day events that is always fabulous viewing for spectators is the Fancy Dress parade. This year we had 18 participants, and whilst we don't have great photos of ALL of them, here are a few : Little Red Riding Hood Alex + Grandma Duke, Elf on the Shelf Mazikeen, Gatsby (from her namesake) Tyler Shrek + Daisy Donkey, Showgirl Loka, Lucifer the Tradie, Puppies Pink as... Pink, T'Pol as....Commander T'Pol and Murphy as Harry Potter, and Ninja as the Cat in the Hat!

11.01.2022 UPDATE: Adopted Great Dane Lovers Association of WA Rehome Indi is a beautiful 2.5yr old harlequin girl who has come a long way with her training over her short life so far due to the dedication of her owner, who very reluctantly needs to rehome her. Indi has a practical repertoire of commands including ‘on your mat,’ ‘bedtime,’ to hop in her crate with no fuss, ‘sit’ and ‘wait.’ These commands have helped her be polite at mealtimes and moving over thresholds. Indi is a sweet... girl and loves to be with her people however she is not overly needy. She loves to come on the couch for a quick pat then off to one of her beds, she just likes to be able to see you. Indi will happily sleep in a crate over night, or not, if that suits you better. Indi can walk well on lead but can also be reactive at times depending on the situation. She can get along with some dogs with correct introductions but not all. We do not consider Indi an off-leash dog and she is not suitable to visit dog parks or beaches. Indi could do well with a male dog and has lived with other dogs well in the past. Kangaroos are a huge trigger for Indi and she will also go after chickens. Indi could go to a rural property but only if there is a boundary collar system or full fencing. She has proven to be contained with a boundary collar but not rural fences alone she will go straight over if she sees a roo! We would not consider a home with cats. Indi is used to school age kids and would be happy in a family home. She is capable of being on her own for a workday so long as she gets a good daily walk, some entertainment and a brief training session. While her prey drive is strong, she is a soft girl and yelling will frighten her. She responds well to food and praise for training along with strong leadership. Indi isn’t a barker or destructive.however pulling washing off the line is a favourite past time she’s not given up since puppy days and she does like to have one hole to dig and lay in to keep cool. Indi has a couple of dietary requirements but is a healthy girl. She’s not only a beauty to look at she’s a gorgeous girl and will make her new home very happy. Please get in touch with Lisa if you think you can give Indi the best life. PM, [email protected] or 0438 833 626. See more

08.01.2022 GDLAWA are assisting with the rehome of Ragnar, a 15 month old Great Dane X Mastiff. He needs an experienced large breed home to continue with his basic training, in particular loose leash walking and controlling excitement when visitors come. He is doing very well with his progress in all areas, he’s curious, smart (for a giant breed, remembering he’s not a Kelpie) very food motivated and eager to learn. Ragnar can take a little time to get used to a new area and the odd let...terbox can be a little frightening too. Ragnar’s new leader needs to be prepared to put in some dedicated time and effort, that if spent with him now, will pay off enormously. Ragnar has lived with another dog however has shown some guarding of food and his bed. His new home will need to be someone who has dealt successfully with these types of behaviours or be one where Ragnar can be the one and only dog. Due to these guarding instinctive behaviours, we will not consider a home with children under 12 years. The puppy side of Ragnar is very much alive and well. He needs his daily walk which he loves and training along with the controlled socialisation. Ragnar hasn’t had much opportunity to socialise with other dogs so will need to start with the basics. Off lead areas are not suitable environments for him at this point in time. Ragnar isn’t a high energy dog and just one or two 20 30 minute walks are sufficient. Once his exercise is done for the day, he shows his more mature side and is happy to lounge around on the couch. He is toilet trained and enjoys being an inside dog. We want to ensure he continues with such privileges. Bath time for Ragnar is tolerated with a view to get to the towelling off/tug with the towel which he finds very fun. He’s not a water baby and when visiting the beach will keep clear of the wet stuff. Ragnar is used to and does love lots of human company. If given enough time, he could adjust to a working home. He can be left safely inside with no destruction for short periods of time only. Soft beds etc are fair game if outside with him during the day. Lamb paddles and roo tails are a favourite treat and will help keep him busy during alone time. He’s not had issue with barking neighbouring dogs but likes to know what’s going on with people around his area and will bark at new noises and people over the fence. Ragnar is a great big lap dog; he loves cuddles and is a very affectionate boy. His sucky teddies are his best friends. Ragnar is too exuberant with cats and chases them. Ragnar could suit county life; he’s not shown any potential to jump rural fencing. If you think Ragnar might be the perfect next partner for you to get stuck into some dog training 101 and you know how to provide strong leadership, please get in touch with Lisa. 0438 833 626 [email protected] or pm See more
