25.01.2022 As a bonus, we got some great trackside footage of Marks NSW loco and coal wagons. Note: Each of these is a separate kit that he builds one by one!
20.01.2022 As 2019 comes to a close we all like to reflect on the year that was. We have had one of our most successful years to date in 2019 with many projects being tackled and moving forward. Just before Christmas, we took the time to enjoy our hard work with an operating night followed by pizza and beverages. So from all of us at GDMRG, we would like to wish everyone a very happy and healthy 2020. Cheers, Brad
19.01.2022 Last night saw work start on the joining of the old layout and the extension. Old track was removed and new points installed for the inside loop on the old layout. The outside track will only run to the extension making for one large outside loop, and a large inside loop that can be spilt to two small loops with the loop on the old layout and small loop on the extension that can be run independent of each other. Points that will allow trains to run straight into the industrial yard and wharf are also installed, which will allow more operational flexibility for future running days. Next week should see all remaining track installed to complete the connection, with testing to follow in coming weeks.
17.01.2022 Another milestone! Last night saw the completion of our narrow gauge loop. With just a few more sidings to lay next week our group can finally accommodate a 3rd scale (HO, N and now 12mm) We hope to have this loop up and running for the next Market day at the end of this month. Last night also saw the final sections of our main HO yard put into place. This section was always going to be the toughest and most time consuming, but now that it is done the rest of the track laying should be a breeze
17.01.2022 Footage of the first test run of the HO inner loop
15.01.2022 With all the craziness of the world going around right now it is very difficult to see any positives. Hopefully this little one can bring some light! As we are being urged to stay home unless essential I had some time to spend on my personal layout. I spent a few hours yesterday drilling holes, running and soldering feeder wires and then eventually hooking the whole lot up. By the end of it, I could run a loco around the outside loop! With a bit more wire (have to purchase) a...nd a few more hours, I should have this thing fully up and running I hope this gives you some inspiration for the day to keep looking for the positives in these uncharted times. What have you been doing in isolation? Show us in the comments -Brad
15.01.2022 As if movement on the layout wasn't enough last night, one of our master craftsmen installed his latest creation made specially for this extension layout. The new pier sits front and centre of what will become an industrial area servicing rail and sea
14.01.2022 Hammo and the 4CC team were out at the village today for a family fun day and stopped in to play trains with us! Check it out https://www.facebook.com/Radio4CC/videos/694552144505395/
12.01.2022 Last night saw the start of a seemingly small project, but the result is already impressive. The difference a facia makes to the layout is surprising. Next week will see holes and gaps filled, sanded smooth, then the first layer of paint. Once the facia is complete and curtains are hung, the look of the layout will be dramatically different.
12.01.2022 A date to remember for our group last night as the first movements were made on the HO scale inner loop of our extension layout. This now means we are able to operate our Narrow gauge loop and the inner loop of our HO line. Check out some photos!
11.01.2022 All hands on deck! Since the New year period finished work has resumed the last few weeks on the extension layout Out track is nearly all laid with a few pieces near the major join (between old and new) to finish off. We will time the major surgery to join the 2 together in between upcoming open days.... In the mean time, the guys have been smashing through wiring the new layout up. Notice our new mesh underframe coming into play with a colour coded wiring system to ensure easy access and troubleshooting for the future. The guys also soldered some 70 odd manual throw switches ready for installation at each set of points on the layout. We will update when the install is finished and tested and explain how and why we do it this way. Watch this space
11.01.2022 Proud moment for us in 2020! Recently our group became a 100% status club with the National Model Railway Asscoiation. (Or NMRA as we call it) So what does this mean? ... It means our group now has network ties to a Nation wide association committed to developing and promoting our hobby. We have access to a library of digital and hardcopy info as well as clinics and conventions our members can attend to further their skills. We are also kept up to date with all things model trains around the country and even abroad. So if you have ever thought of joining a model railway group, there has never been a better time! 08.01.2022 We aren't just all work and no play at GDMRG. Last night we were lucky enough to have some new equipment on show from 2 of our members, Dave and Mark. It was like State of Origin as QLD and NSW took to the rails!
08.01.2022 Here at GDMRG we are always hunting for ways to innovate and improve our methods whether it be construction, painting, electronics or anything to do with our wonderful hobby. Tonight, we installed our new experimental wiring under frame. This setup comprises of mesh sheets welded to our steel frame underneath the benchtops of layout. Once feeders are dropped down and main power wires run, the entire setup can be tied up neatly to the mesh to ensure a tidy wiring setup that can be worked on easily if problems arise in the future. If this setup proves successful it will become a new standard for any layout construction going forward
05.01.2022 We are back! Covid 19 kept us away for a few months but our members returned to club nights in early June. The last few weeks of work have brought us to another milestone. The entire track network on our extension project is wired up and ready for testing. Some basic DC and DCC tests were conducted last night and with minimal issues, things are looking good!
05.01.2022 It's ALIVE! The first loco movement on our new extension layout. Last night the guys finished off the last parts of track laying for our narrow gauge (12mm) loop and have rigged her up ready to run for our next Market/open day at the end of this month
