25.01.2022 The barbershop is and has always been a place where you will find guys from every layer of society and plumage. Nobody cares how much money you make, what your ...sexual preferences are, what color you have or where you come from. A barbershop should be a place where everybody is the same, and where you step in to get cleaned up. The other thing about the barbershop that its always been "The spider in the web" of your community... We opened our shop on De Nieuwe Binnenweg because both Leen and me have been living there for years, its "our" neighborhood and we know so many of the people that come with it, the other shops, the local entrepreneurs, and off course the familiar faces you see on a daily basis.. One of those faces belongs to Martin "De Reus", one of those faces that just belong to Rotterdam, Martin has been around as long as I remember, homeless and addicted, selling "De Straatkrant" around town, always a smile on his face, always in a good mood, HUGE Elvis and Feyenoord fan, it was so good to hear, he kicked that monkey on his back in the face, has a found a roof above his head and is on the long and curvy road to recovery... Laurens Schagen a.k.a. Lausy Lau usually sees him on regular hang out when he goes home after work, always in the mood for a little chat so when Martin walked by one day Lau called him in for a quick free chop-chop and a whole bunch of great stories, of course Jelle was there with his camera and filmed the whole thing to capture the Schorem vibe... Barbers, take care of your people and community and they will take care of you...

05.01.2022 WARNING!! This is not a "feel good" story... This is a "FEEL BLOODY GREAT STORY!" Its not everyday you get to meet one of your heroes.... I was walking down El...izabeth on my way to Flinders St. this afternoon when I came across this scene. Of course I had to stop... The gentleman with scissors in hand is Nasir Sobhani, the gentleman with the massive smile on his face and a new haircut is a lovely homeless man named Grant. I watched on as Nasir gave Grant a fantastic haircut and I watched as Grants smile got wider and wider. So did Nasirs. Nasir is The Streets Barber. In his spare time he goes around and gives the homeless in Melbourne free haircuts. He has done this all over the world. I asked Grant how he felt after he got his cut "About a tonne lighter!" He said with a massive smile on his face. Nasir was so busy getting the next client ready that I only had time for one question, the only question that really mattered... "Why?" "Im a recovering drug addict and this is my new drug. Simple as that." As I was walking away with a massive smile on my face Nasir sat his next client down, the gentleman said, "Thank you so much for this" Nasir replied, "No my friend, thank you. You are the one helping me. Thank you." #melbourneiloveyou

05.01.2022 This gentleman Peter won many competitions back in the days with one of them being "The longest moustache of Holland" when stretched out it had a span wide of... more than his own body length! Have beaten many things in life, one of them being cancer, losing all his facial hair with it, now hes letting it grow back and comes in ones in a while for a trim and cut by our head of education Nelis!
