25.01.2022 Staff from across our four campuses gathered for two days of professional learning and development at our 2021 Staff Conference: The Power of Conversations

24.01.2022 Across 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic escalated, our Principal, Rebecca Cody, leaned into the perspective and leadership of experts who intersected with GGS. Rebecca asked each of them 5 questions, including "What does it mean to be wise?"

24.01.2022 The view from Mrs. Bouvier's classroom yesterday on what was a wild day of weather- 'With the southern wind howling on the ovals, finding a secluded, sun-kissed area around the School is still possible!'

21.01.2022 One term later than we had initially planned, it was fantastic to welcome Middle School and Senior School families to Corio Campus yesterday for our annual Family Day. Thank you to everyone who worked tirelessly to make the day such a success. Corio Campus was a hive of activity from the time the first ball was kicked at Saturday morning sport through until the final family departed on Sunday evening; it was truly great to see!

20.01.2022 Our Middle School students and their counterparts from Toorak Campus descended on the Handbury Centre this afternoon for the annual Middle School House Swimming carnival. The pool deck was a cacophony of competing House chants accompanied by a lot of cheering, commiserating and congratulations. After more than a year since last year’s edition, it was a wonderful afternoon for students and staff alike.

20.01.2022 This year, for #worldteachersday, our parents really went above and beyond. Staff from across our four campuses were showered with cards, flowers and emails of thanks from parents and students alike to show their gratitude for all that they do, particularly in what has been a challenging 2020. Bouquets were not only purchased, but also plucked from parents' gardens, arranged beautifully and delivered to our respective campuses this morning. A big thanks to our wonderful support groups - Friends of Senior School, Friends of Middle School, Friend of Toorak Campus, Friends of Bostock House, as well as our Timbertop parents - for driving this initiative; teachers and operational staff alike really appreciated the support.

19.01.2022 Offered for the first time in 2021, VCE/ VET Music Industry is an exciting inclusion in the School’s academic programme. As part of their core unit on the implementation of copyright arrangements, the class had the pleasure of welcoming Jake Mason from Melbourne funk trio Cookin’ on 3 Burners to step through his experiences in the world of music copyright. You may have heard it on the radio, in any number of TV commercials or in football stadiums as far flung as Porto or Live...rpool, but the chances are you’ve heard either the original or a remix of the Cookin’ on 3 Burners hit This Girl. The song was released in 2009 before French DJ and record producer Kungs approached them to remix the track, which was subsequently released in 2016; the music video for the remix currently has more than 422 million views on YouTube! Who better to speak on the intricacies of music copyright and what a wonderful experience for our students. See more

19.01.2022 In 1966, His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, aged 17, came as a student to Timbertop. Charles, who today celebrates his 72nd birthday, ran, skied, hiked and chopped wood alongside everyone else, earning the blisters to prove it. His experiences were humorously captured by the well-known English cartoonist Larry (aka Terrence Parkes) in a series of nine cartoons which were published in 'Punch'. The original drawings were presented to the School by the British Council. #ggstreasures

19.01.2022 After having a grade re-marked, Laurenz has had his IB score adjusted to 44. He is the Dux of the class of 2020, while Julie is Proxime Accessit of the School for 2020. For more information, visit our website- https://www.ggs.vic.edu.au/home/news/laurenz-tops-the-class

16.01.2022 Congratulations to Jock Landale (OGG’2013) on signing a one-year deal with @melbunited!

16.01.2022 Congratulations to Laurenz Watters and Julie Yuan- our joint Dux for 2020. The pair each received an IB score of 43 equating to an ATAR of 99.55 when results were released on Sunday 3 January. Laurenz completed his entire school journey at GGS, having joined in Prep at Bostock House, while Julie came to the School in Year 10 and resided in Garnett House. Laurenz plans to study Biomedicine at the University of Melbourne and Julie, the winner of last year’s Coriobald Packi...ng Room Prize, plans to study Art in the UK. 14 students achieved an IB score of 40 or above and our median IB score is 35, which equates to a median IB ATAR of 92.80. 78.6% of our IB cohort recorded scores which place them in the top 10% of the state; the highest figure in almost a decade and a remarkable achievement in such a difficult year. Please note that results are subject to change as some students await a re-evaluation of scores. See more

16.01.2022 All Bostock House students are finishing Term 4 with a seven-day swimming programme in the Handbury Centre pool. After such an interrupted year of swimming lessons for our primary campus students, this is a wonderful way to prepare them for this summer and beyond.

15.01.2022 Introducing our 2021 School Captains- George Chomley and Michaela Sorrenti. George joined the School in Year 7 and was a member of this year’s Lorne 160 team. George’s sister, Eliza, was School Captain in 2016. Michaela joined the School at Timbertop in Year 9 and was also a part of this year’s Lorne 160 cohort. Michaela is the first School Captain from Elisabeth Murdoch house. Congratulations to George and Michaela, and a huge thank you to our 2020 School Captains, Sunny Handy and Sarah Sutherland, for their tremendous leadership this year.

15.01.2022 Intra-school sport has made a return in recent weeks, with our cricketers taking on The Geelong College the past two Saturdays and our Boys' and Girls' 1st Tennis playing their TGC counterparts yesterday.

15.01.2022 On the eve of Family Day, more than a dozen bands from Middle School, Senior School and Timbertop will take to the stage at the EQ to compete for a variety of prizes. Past students Harvey Miller and Monte Morgan, collectively known as @clientliaison, are our special guest performers at what will surely be a memorable night of music. The event is open to the extended GGS community; we look forward to seeing plenty of families and Old Geelong Grammarians on Saturday evening!

15.01.2022 Book Week was celebrated this year at Bostock House and Corio Campus (Middle School) with dress up parades and (virtual) author visits. We had the pleasure of hosting fabulous authors Nicki Greenberg and George Ivanoff via Zoom. The students learnt about how stories are planned, written, and created.

13.01.2022 November 1 All Saints Day is a significant day in the history of the Chapel of All Saints at Corio Campus. A dedication ceremony was held on November 1 1929 following the construction of the nave of the chapel, funds for which were given by the five Falkiner brothers in memory of their mother, Emily Falkiner, whose earlier gift paid for the chancel (constructed in 1915). On the day of the dedication ceremony, a large number of guests assembled in the chapel ‘waiting in th...e rich light of storied windows for the footsteps of the approaching procession. There followed the sound of prayer, then, breaking the silence, came the knocking at the door and the Church’s order, Open me the gates of righteousness that I may go into them and give thanks unto the Lord.’ Leslie Falkiner, Emily’s grandson, proceeded to unlock the door with this ceremonial key and the procession entered the chapel. The Chapel was consecrated on November 1 1915 and while the building itself was donated by the Falkiner family, other community members gifted beautiful objects, textiles and furniture. Frederick Pincott, first president of the Old Geelong Grammarians, gave this brass alms dish, which was used to collect the offering from the congregation during the mass. The letters ‘IHC’ in the centre of the dish refer to the Greek word for Jesus, and the words ‘To do good, and to distribute forget not’ are the first part of a piece of scripture (Hebrews 13:16) which concludes ‘for with such sacrifices God is pleased’. Alms were distributed from Sunday collections to worthy causes; the ‘poor box’ in the chapel was also regularly emptied, and its contents given to those in need.

13.01.2022 A little over a week ago, Emma Moore (GGS teacher and founder of Albie’s Allies) walked from Leopold to the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) to raise both funds and awareness for the Colorectal and Pelvic Reconstruction Services (CPRS) at the RCH. Emma completed the gruelling walk and, from an original fundraising goal of $10,000, has raised in excess of $15,000 (donations can still be made here- https://www.mycause.com.au/page/242439/100kms-for-cprs-rch)! As Emma passed thro...ugh our Corio Campus en route to Melbourne, it was wonderful to see so many staff and students lining Biddlecombe Avenue cheering her on. At six days old, Emma’s son Albie had spent most of his life intubated, undergone major bowel surgery and was about to have the first of two eight-hour open-heart surgeries. Albie has endured many months in hospital over his five years. His future is uncertain as doctors search for a diagnosis which explains his many and varied medical complications. The Royal Children’s Hospital has played a significant role in Albie’s life thus far, and it was fitting that Emma’s trek finished there. Paediatric Colorectal Surgeon Associate Professor Sebastian King is responsible for the care of many children at the RCH, and knows all too well the challenges they face. For the majority of the kids that we look after, we are managing them from birth through their adolescence, and then transitioning them to adult care, because a large number of them are still having significant problems. It’s life-long, Professor King said. The growth of the service would not be possible without the generous support of fundraising initiatives like Albie’s Allies and the generous donors who have recognised the life-changing prospects of the Colorectal and Pelvic Reconstruction Service under the leadership of Professor King. - Geelong Advertiser

12.01.2022 ‘One’ one team of leaders, one campus, one school, one nation, one people was the theme of Friday’s Year 4 leadership assembly at Bostock House. Our Year 4 leaders welcomed our Principal, Rebecca Cody, School Captains, George Chomley and Michaela Sorrenti, and Indigenous liaison officer, Sandra Brogden, to Bostock House to present them with their leadership badges. George and Michaela took their place on the leadership hot seat, fielding questions from inquisitive students on leadership and their journey through GGS. Our Year 4 leaders made the following pledge to their classmates- We pledge to try to be the best leaders that we can be. We promise to show kindness and fairness in our lives so that Bostock House can be stronger and be ONE.

11.01.2022 Congratulations to Piñata on winning the second annual GGS Battle of the Bands! Well done to everyone who performed, including our special guests @clientliaison, at what was a fantastic event showcasing our students’ talents.

11.01.2022 Sometimes you have to pinch yourself What a thrill it was to see Bostock House and Toorak Campus students return to campus this morning with a mixture of nerves and excitement for the year ahead. We wish our students a fantastic 2021, and extend a warm welcome to all new families joining the School community.

10.01.2022 Congratulations to our Year 12 IB cohort as the curtain comes down today on their exam period, and their time at GGS. After what was a grueling year, we hope you leave today with a strong sense of satisfaction for all you have achieved.

10.01.2022 Corio Campus is a hive of activity once again with the start of the new school year. After almost three terms of virtual assemblies, students returned to the SPACE this morning for a Whole Campus Assembly to kick-off Term 1.

09.01.2022 It was another landmark weekend for cricket at the School, and in the APS competition more broadly, with Georgia Gall (Yr11) and our 1st XI coming up against Meika King and Wesley College for the first time. The pair also had the pleasure of linking up with Australian captain Meg Lanning for a chat on Zoom on the eve of the fixture.

09.01.2022 This morning at 11am we paused to remember those who have served, and continue to serve, Australia in times of war. Lest we forget.

08.01.2022 More great #AFLDraft-related news this evening with recent graduates Nick Stevens and Ollie Lord drafted by Geelong (pick 47) and Port Adelaide (pick 49) respectively.

08.01.2022 Peter Hatzoglou (OGG’16) will debut for @renegadesbbl this evening in what is a truly remarkable rise through the grades. In 2017/18, playing for Melbourne Uni, Peter began with the Fourth XI and finished the season in the Third XI. In 2018/19, he started in the Third XI and finished in the Second XI. Last season, Peter started in the Second XI and, by the end of the season, was taking bags of four and three wickets with Melbourne Uni’s Premier First XI. We wish Peter all the best in his debut against the Scorchers. #bbl10

08.01.2022 Three members from this year’s @ggslorne160_2020 team George Chomley, Hamish Routley and Anna Sherwin together with the Lorne 160 coordinator, Ms Ulrick, loaded-up the van on Wednesday with $7,793.44 worth of local goods and produce (packed into beautiful hampers) and delivered them to the @barwonhealthfoundation office in Geelong. Barwon Health will distribute them to local nurses who have worked tirelessly in the COVID-19 ward throughout 2020. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this year’s Lorne 160 fundraiser, including our Middle School students who made wonderful Thank You cards to accompany the hampers, nd well done to the 20 Year 11 students who adapted so well to achieve such a brilliant outcome..

05.01.2022 Our Equestrian team tried something a little different for their yearbook photos this morning...

05.01.2022 On Friday, our Year 6 leaders organised a marking of Earth Hour at Toorak Campus. The captains made an announcement over the intercom that all electricity needed to be turned off for the hour and then the Year 6 leaders went into each classroom to read a story with a sustainability theme. All classes were then asked to congregate on the oval to form the word ‘EARTH’.

04.01.2022 Congratulations to our senior rowers who competed (virtually) in the Australian Indoor Rowing Championships on Sunday 25 October. 04.01.2022 Congratulations to our 136 Year 12 VCE candidates, as well as those Year 11 students who completed a 3/4 subject in 2020, on achieving great results in a difficult year. The median ATAR for our VCE cohort is 72.75 a significant leap from 2019 and 16 students achieved scores of 90 and above. Ruby Burgess-Hoar is our top VCE performer for 2020, achieving an ATAR score of 97.45. Briony Hoh (97.25) and Fergus Jacoby (95.4) each attained scores in excess of 95. We will begin to have the complete picture of our Year 12 results on Sunday 3 January when IB scores are released.

04.01.2022 Good luck to our Year 12 VCE students as they commence exams this morning!
