20.01.2022 Thanks to Derek Jones for stepping in! We originally advertised Joshua Batty as soloist in Mozart's Flute concerto in D, but the Covid climate has restricted Josh to Sydney. We are thrilled that another of Australia's exceptional flautists will be playing instead. Derek Jones from the Melbourne Conn, is well known to concert goers nationally and internationally! Very pleased to have him on board.

20.01.2022 Almost time to think about food before the concert tonight!! Bring your ticket along to Sailors' Rest to enjoy some lovely food before some even lovelier music!

19.01.2022 We are so excited to be rehearsing with our conductor Richard Davis again. 18.01.2022 To Friends and supporters of the GSO We do hope the orchestra will be back together playing and making music again before too many months have elapsed! We have a joyful and lighthearted program fully planned for August - but I am fairly sure it will have to be cancelled, like so many other musical plans. We very much hope it will be postponed and we will call players and soloists together as soon as we have a venue and an audience. It is bitterly disappointing for all artists... in these days of worldwide lockdown. No-one has been spared - even the great and famous are suddenly without plans and also without income. For some it has been a time of reflection and reassessing of priorities. For some it has been a busy time coping with the technology of working from home, often much complicated by home schooling of children. I hope the government assistance has provided a lifeline of income support to everyone in these difficult times. The GSO players will be together again and we will appreciate the joy of making music all the more for having to do without it. The world needs the Arts! Music, books, concerts and lectures online have been a major source of comfort over these days of social distancing. I feel sure that the Geelong Symphony Orchestra will continue to be a major force in the Geelong of the future. We look forward to making the NEXT concert our best yet! Wendy Galloway - President

11.01.2022 Do you know what this image means? Well, I think the word ‘Beethoven’ would (should) have given it away The symphony, and the four-note opening motif in particular, are known worldwide, with the motif appearing frequently in popular culture, from disco versions to rock and roll covers, to uses in film and television. ...
