25.01.2022 Lot 8 Geltas Paddock 2 Plate
25.01.2022 Nearing the farm this morning to check calving cows and this is what greeted me. The magnificent Mount Roland forming the background to a "lake" of fog filling the valley. Unfortunately the photo does not fully portray the true beauty of what I saw with the naked eye. Three new calves, all bulls.
24.01.2022 As we journey through life parts of our body change. It appears that this is caused because our date of birth. Does this sound familiar? Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D. -Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. This is how it manifests itself: I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing. As I head towards the garage, I notice post on the porch table that I picked up from the postman earlier. ...I decide to go through it before I wash the car. I put my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the recycling box under the table, and notice that the recycling box is full. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the recycling first. But then I think, since I'm going to be near the post-box when I take out the recycling paper anyway, I may as well pay the bills first. I take my cheque book off the table and notice that there is only one cheque left. My extra cheques are in the desk in my study, so I go into the house to my desk where I find the cup of coffee I'd been drinking. I'm going to look for my cheques but first I need to push the coffee aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. The coffee is getting cold, and I decide to make another cup. As I head toward the kitchen with the cold coffee, a vase of flowers on the bench catches my eye - the flowers need water. I put the coffee on the bench and discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning. I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers. I put the glasses back down, fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote control. Someone left it on the kitchen table. I realise that tonight when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers. I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor. So, I put the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill. Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do. At the end of the day: The car isn't washed, The bills aren't paid, There is a cold cup of coffee sitting on the kitchen work-surface, The flowers don't have enough water, There is still only 1 cheque in my cheque book, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, And I don't remember what I did with the car keys. Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day and I'm really tired. I realise this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail.
23.01.2022 Got to be careful what you eat now. Pays to check the list of ingredients. Veggie burgers made from "stuff" grown in a lab and veggie free.

15.01.2022 Introducing some of our 2nd drop of Right Combination calves at 6 to 7 weeks old. Also a couple of the mothers. Pretty happy with the way they are growing
15.01.2022 First weekend in March 2019 and Gelbvieh breeders from every State in Australia meet in Tasmania for the AGM and property tours.
14.01.2022 If you have ever wondered what happens in Tasmania on the shortest day of the year, then wonder no more. It's still warm enough for a swim, because it's warmer in the water than out.
11.01.2022 Had the sale bulls in the yards for pour on drench treatment. Selected 2 for an Auctions plus sale at end of next month. Looking a bit rough and ready in their every day wear so we will give them a bit of a tidy up before the official photo shoot. Pretty happy how they are coming out of the Winter running on pasture with only a hay supplement. More details later.
10.01.2022 Been pretty tough the last 3 weeks after I had a phonecall to inform me that my very close friend and cattle mate of 29 years was in hospital and his condition was deteriorating. Last Saturday I got the call I had been dreading, but knew that it was the best result for Warwick. He was at peace. Arrived back home today after laying him to rest. Needing something to take my mind of things and found this. I also find that I have to write things down now or I forget what I ha...ve to do sometimes. A couple in their nineties are both having problems remembering things. During a check-up, the doctor tells them that they’re physically okay, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember. Later that night, while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair. Want anything while I’m in the kitchen? he asks. Will you get me a bowl of ice cream? she says. Sure.' he replies. Don’t you think you should write it down so you can remember it? she asks. No, I can remember it. he says. She adds Well, I’d like some Strawberries on top, too. Maybe you should write it down, so as not to forget it? He says, I can remember that. You want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries. I’d also like whipped cream. I’m certain you’ll forget that’. Irritated, he says, I don’t Need to write it down, I can remember it! Ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream - I got it, for goodness sake! Then he toddles into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes, the old man returns from the kitchen and hands his wife a plate of bacon and eggs. She stares at the plate for a moment and asks Where’s my toast?
10.01.2022 It is with great sadness that I inform Gelbvieh Association members and breeders of the passing of Warwick Snape at Mornington , Victoria on Saturday 1st. June ...2019. Warwick spent many years of his early life working for Hereford Studs before being appointed as Stud Manager for the Ballanee Gelbvieh Stud owned by John Gross in 1989, the foundation year of the Aust. Gelbvieh Association. After the Ballenee Stud was dispersed in December 1995 Warwick moved to the Mornington Peninsular in Victoria to manage the Teurong Park Gelbvieh and Limousin Studs. He remained there until the studs were dispersed after the death of the owner, Dr. John Stubbe. Warwick was a very competitent cattleman and excellent groom winning numerous championship awards with the cattle he prepared and showed. He is survived by his sister, 3 sons and 1 daughter and their families. I was honoured to be invited to attend the private funeral and speak of my experiences and association with Warwick over the past 29 years. Denis Dobson See more
09.01.2022 Pretty pleased with our 2nd drop of Right Combination calves at 6 to 7 weeks and a couple of their mothers. They are growing nicely. Certainly a very even line that he leaves. Not hard to find them in the mob.
08.01.2022 Wynyard Show Gelbvieh results. Pretty happy today after some great results in a very strong lineup of cattle. Interbreed ribbons were shared around with probably Royston Shorthorns winning the biggest share. We won 3 Reserve Interbreed ribbons and also finished 3rd in Junior pair and 3rd in Group of Three.
05.01.2022 Friday again and waiting for the frost to melt a little before i venture out to find a vehicle that is prepared to start. Found this and everything sounds so familiar. Thought I should share it before I forget. Random thoughts as we age... The biggest lie I tell myself is ..."I don't need to write that down, I'll remember it."... Wouldn't it be great if we could put ourselves in the dryer for ten minutes; come out wrinkle-free and three sizes smaller! Last year I joined a support group for procrastinators. We haven't met yet! I don't trip over things; I do random gravity checks! I don't need anger management. I need people to stop annoying me! Old age is coming at a really bad time! Lord grant me the strength to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can & the friends to post my bail when I finally snap! I don't have white hair. I have "wisdom highlights". I'm just very wise. My people skills are just fine. It's my tolerance that needs work. If God wanted me to touch my toes, he would've put them on my knees. The kid’s text me "plz" which is shorter than please. I text back "no" which is shorter than "yes. I'm going to retire and live off of my savings. Not sure what I'll do the second week. Why do I have to press one for English when you're just going to transfer me to someone I can't understand anyway? Of course I talk to myself, sometimes I need expert advice. At my age "Getting lucky" means walking into a room and remembering what I came in there for.
04.01.2022 Just received my feedback sheets after the sale of our Gelbvieh cross steers. Members who visited our property as part of the Southern Gelbvieh tour back in March may remember these fellows. The heaviest steer had a carcase weight of 480kg and sold for $2544. The steer on the right in the photo had a carsase weight 459kg and realised $2433 The younger steer on the left weighed 312kg and realised $1812. The average price for the bigger steers was $2448 and for the younger stee...rs $1911. There was also Dexter x Red Angus young steer that sold for $1511. This fellow belongs to grandaughter, Penny. Not sure if her father has told her where her steer has gone. There is good news. The next calf from the cow was a heifer (named Penny Moo) by a gelbvieh bull and she has been put in the keeper mob. The middle steer in the photo is a pure gelbvieh and possibly may have made fat specifications but we decided not to risk it and will keep him until the end of Spring See more

04.01.2022 Geltas Pauline H85 by JDPD Astro 407S and Tim Dobson Interbreed ribbon winner at several shows in 2013
03.01.2022 Interstate and local cattle breeders last weekend. This weekend , which is a long weekend, we had the annual retirees camp and cookup at our campground on the farm. Farm walks through the cattle, much chatting and frivolity around the giant fire pit and plenty of jokes unsuitable to reproduce on this site. Last night was the big camp oven cookup. Nothing beats a good home cooked meal and this is the generation that excel. No fancy take aways when we were young, other than the local fish and chip shop. Also gave us a chance to prepare our show team for next weekend. Taking 8 head, so will not get much time sit about.
