25.01.2022 "ARTISAN TRADERS" at Gemfest 2019 Bringing bespoke handmade trades to Gemfest is a trend we hope to expand in Gemfest 2020. Their brief was to engage the crowd, tell their story, show their passion and demonstrate their skills. They sure pleased us all with great enthusiasm and commitment. $4,900 was sold via the Gemfest progressive auction and a further $3,200 given away as Gemfest prizes. The Artisans worked and complimented the aspects of the sapphire industry... and the Sapphire Gemfields (mining, cutting and jewellery). Thanks to all the Artisans who participated this year and we look forward to their (and more Artisans) involvement next year. ARTISANS INCLUDED- JASE MOORE, LANA VIKULOV, MATT BIRD, CLINTON McDONALD, FORGE KNOX, CINDY KELLY, and TREVOR HANNAN. Entertaining, enjoyable and educational,,,,,well done See more

There are Polo shirts, in fact something for everyone, if you have something at home that you no longer use call into Nicole at the pub tomorrow and give it to her. We would love to have more items to auction so let us know. But most important of all come along and help the Leukaemia Foundation and have a fun time on Friday night. See more

10.01.2022 Dear all, I’m happy to invite you to join our next Field Gemology Talks next on Tuesday 19th (for American Continents) and Wednesday the 20th (for Asia, Afric...a & Europe) at 9am (Bangkok time). I know this time will be very bad for Europe... But it will be recorded and available on YouTube. Here is the link to register: https://us02web.zoom.us//register/WN_Mt-1n5n5TF2IZNhcSfe0HQ Our guest this time will be Terrence Coldham. Terry started his adventure with Australian sapphires 57 years ago, meaning that he was already an experienced man while i was not even born. . I selected Terry as i had two very memorable long road trips around Australia to visit its sapphire (and opal) mines with him in 2012 and 2015 when i was building the GIA reference collection. We spent then many hours discussing together on the road. . Terry witnessed the arrival of the Thai buyers in the 1970´s and the boom of the Australian sapphire mining for about 20 years until the end of the 1990’s with the Asian crisis in 1997 and the sapphire discoveries in Tanzania and Madagascar. The supply of Australian sapphires was critical for the rise of the Thai gem and jewelry industry and its impact is still visible today in many places where sapphires are mined as the sapphire mining equipment used today in most sapphire deposits, like the pulsating jig, were developped by Australian miners (from existing tin mining equipment). . During that webinar we will speak about sapphire mining, trading, heat treatment and see how the Australian sapphire industry has changed from the days Terry started his career to today and the new challenges ahead. . See you soon next Tuesday (For Americas) or Wednesday (For Asia, Africa and Europe)
