25.01.2022 Happy New Year to you all. Hoping that 2021 is a happy, healthy, safe and prosperous year.

19.01.2022 58 year anniversary of my parent’s wedding. Married in January 1963, Kaurihohore, New Zealand. They met working for New Zealand Broadcasting Commission in Wellington. He was a director, and was originally from Wichita Kansas. Mum was a vision mixer, after taking a break from school teaching and was from nearby Whangarei. His family couldn’t attend from the US, so Mum’s family filled both sides of the aisle. The best man and bridesmaid was Mum’s uncle Norm Nichol - 2nd from ...right back row. He’s now 95 years old. They were married in the New Year, because Mum introduced him to her family at Christmas and they had both travelled from Wellington. They spent their honeymoon camping near Mangonui, and Mum’s 12-year-old cousin Kevin joined them because he was camping close by with his scout group. Nothing untoward, just a very laid-back,casual family wedding. My grandmother catered for the wedding. Mum bought her wedding dress, off the rack in Wellington. See more

09.01.2022 Found this scrapbook of press clippings that my 17-year-old mother Merle Nichol in 1953 had compiled. She was a marching girl, from a small New Zealand town Whangarei. In 1953 the Whangarei Grenadiers marching team won the national championships and then toured Australia for a month. This was a pretty big deal for the people of Whangarei 68 years ago. It was a goodwill mission, as well as to establish an Inter Dominion competition.... The people of Whangarei raised funds for the entire trip. Mum was called up at the last minute as an emergency when another team member had injured her back while Fund Raising. See more
