13.01.2022 For years, I rode what felt like the most intense emotional roller coaster. I developed anxiety, became withdrawn I felt I couldn’t show any sign of weakness.... Recently we’ve seen a number of high profile athletes speak out or take time out in relation to their mental health. It’s an improvement from years gone by where the stigma prevented athletes from seeking support. It sends a great message to the community that these conditions are common, they can affect anyone and it’s important and okay to get help after all, depression and anxiety don’t discriminate. Daniel Kowalski a beyondblue Ambassador has his own story to share about living with a mental health condition in the sporting world: Through my experience, I have realised that despite what you have or what you achieve, it doesn’t mean you are immune I kept working with my health professionals and I realised that my depression was a part of who I was.
