02.01.2022 When I was pregnant with our first child, a trusted friend, Dan (thanks Dan!), gave me some advice on becoming a parent that has resonated with me ever since. It was, try to be a coach, rather than a referee. ... What a powerful concept! Rather than being the rule maker, rule enforcer, go-to person for the boundaries of life; instead, to consider being a champion of our child’s activities and discoveries, an equal collaborator, a guiding light for them to access when they need, a go-to fountain of support when required. Pan forward 7 years, another child, and a burgeoning career as a Coach, this is a philosophy that I still hold on to. With my clients I focus on assisting them to enable, activate and empower themselves. This is according to the goals that they have set, helping them to uncover the personal priorities that need to come to the fore. Then we collaboratively set actions/activities/goals to ensure that the theory gets integrated into reality in the style that incorporates fun and engagement.
