22.01.2022 A big welcome to our newest member Southern Grampians Adult Education. Southern Grampians Adult Education (SGAE) was established in 1997 as a Learn Local Organi...sation and became a Registered Training Organisation in 1998. They have 3 campuses, with their head office located in Hamilton. They have expanded their delivery area over the past few years to encompass disability programs in Bendigo and 2018 saw the addition of Warrnambool. SGAE was established in response to the identified education and training needs of the Southern Grampians Community, and continues to develop programs in response to the ever-changing needs within our community. In 2013, SGAE became a registered Senior Secondary Education Provider, providing the opportunity for learners to complete Years 11 or 12 in an alternative learning environment. SGAE has a particular focus on Foundation Skills Training, improving language, literacy and numeracy levels to provide the basic skills to enable pathways into further education, training and employment for all members of our community. SGAE aims to promote lifelong learning through education programs for individuals from a broad cross section of the community. SGAE has a strong emphasis on the disadvantaged, providing education and support for adults and youth with an intellectual and/or physical disability, low level literacy and numeracy, short and long-term unemployed, people at risk, the aged community, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and adults from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. SGAE continues to look at new ways of engaging our community in education and training with a focus on providing lifelong learning, continuing education for independent living and life skills, and building confidence and a sense of community belonging for all members within our community. https://sgae.vic.edu.au/ See more

For others, it is simply a chance to gain new skills in a supportive environment. Learn Locals are located all across Victoria. During Coronavirus, so many have stepped up and transitioned their courses online or in other ways that suit their learners. Thats what Learn Locals do they are the heart of their local community. 15.01.2022 Have Your Say On School Vocational Pathways The Andrews Labor Government is giving parents, students, schools and other key stakeholders a say in the future of ...vocational education and applied learning in schools. Minister for Education James Merlino established the review of VCAL and VET in schools to improve vocational education and applied learning, so students receive a high-quality qualification with the technical and practical skills that our economy needs. The review, led by former CEO of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority John Firth, will make recommendations to reform vocational and applied learning in senior secondary schooling to ensure it meets the needs of all students. It will consider how to improve students success in further education, training or employment once they have finished school. Feedback is being sought on a number of topics relating to vocational and applied learning. These include program design and structure, delivery and accessibility, confidence in qualifications, as well as improving student outcomes. VCAL is a hands-on option for students in Years 11 and 12, giving them practical work-related experience as well as literacy and numeracy skills. More than 20,000 students enrolled in a VCAL certificate last year. Vocational education delivered to school students allows students to receive nationally recognised qualifications and provides an opportunity for students to receive credit towards their VCE or VCAL. Feedback submissions can be made through engage.vic.gov.au/vcalreview until 27 March 2020. The review began extensive consultation with stakeholders in mid-November 2019 and will continue to do so throughout the consultation period to accompany the online feedback. A final report will be completed in May 2020. Quotes attributable to Minister for Education James Merlino We are strengthening vocational secondary education to better link Victorian students with career opportunities now and in the future. Were making record investments in Victorias major projects and we need a pipeline of skilled talent to deliver these projects, and that starts by delivering high quality vocational education to students in schools. Quotes attributable to Chair of the Review John Firth I am keen to ensure that the Review is fully informed by the views and experiences of all involved in Victoria's education system. I encourage feedback from current and past students, parents, teachers, principals, employers, VET and university educators and the broader community." See more

14.01.2022 Gender Equity Project Update Yarrawonga Education and Training learners have completed the first unit in the pilot delivery of the new Course in Gender Equity (...22521VIC). Whilst they have found the course challenging with a lot of new concepts, they are now all putting on a gender lens and looking at ways that this information could be used to improve gender equity in their workplaces and thereby assist communities to work towards prevention of violence against women. Nina Lewis commented that undertaking the Gender Equity course has stimulated my awareness of the diversity within our society and assisted in developing better management processes for equality.

07.01.2022 Yesterday I had a virtual visit to The Centre for Continuing Education, a Learn Local provider based in Wangaratta, Benalla and Seymour. They are yet another L...earn Local that has stepped up during coronavirus to make sure their local community still has access to education & training. Whether it be through moving their courses online or buying extra technology to loan to students, the Centre is doing incredible things. All helping to get people skilled up for further education and work. The literacy, numeracy and digital skills training that Learn Locals across Victoria provide is just so important. So I am so pleased that we are investing an extra $1.25m for Learn Locals to expand training. This includes grants for all rural and regional Learn Locals to improve digital access to courses for students. Funding to help Learn Locals across Victoria to offer more courses online. And a new advertising campaign to encourage Victorians to study at their Learn Local. To make sure that Victorians of all ages can improve their literacy, numeracy and digital skills. taken before COVID-19.

02.01.2022 Minister Forum on Local Government and Small Business In December, Sue Geals, ACEVic Board Chair participated in a Ministerial Round Table forum with Minister A...dem Somyurek - Minister for Local Government and Minister for Small Business. The discussion provided Sue with the opportunity to outline the critical role Learn Local Organisations play within the education sector and to additionally highlight that LLOs run as small businesses, serving individuals and local communities. Sue raised several concerns with Minister Somyurek including the effects that free TAFE and the capping of accredited qualifications have on the financial viability and sustainability of LLO RTOs. Sue also emphasised the impact of state-wide qualification capping decisions on regional LLOs/small businesses who deliver tailored programs which meet regional employment needs. See more
