24.01.2022 These gloves and masks were well received by the wonderful volunteers at Native Animal Rescue who will use them to help treat injured wildlife from the recent bushfires. Thoughts go out to those who have lost their homes and that the rains finally help relieve those hardworking firefighters of their duties.

23.01.2022 At 3 months old, Abigail is our youngest patient ever! Its a bit early before shes due for her first dental visit but this is what happens when your Mum is a dentist! Her first official examination will be when her first tooth comes through, around 6 months of age. To read more about the first dental appointment see https://www.gentledentalcentre.com.au//childs-first-dental To book your babys first visit call 9405 1305

23.01.2022 Have a safe and happy Easter break! Gentle Dental will be open for the non public holidays next week. Yes our staff do eat chocolate too (we are only human) but remember to brush after!

22.01.2022 Dr Jane thought that this cool, refillable, Australian owned floss would fill the void in our hearts from her going on maternity leave to prepare for bub number 2. We hope she comes back soon but running after 2 boys will be a fulltime job in itself! All the best Dr Jane, thankyou for looking after our patients, we will miss you!

22.01.2022 On Saturday Dr Sherry attended a course where she got to channel her inner Michaelangelo and create front teeth with wax. Usually it's the dental technicians at the local Perth labs we send to that create your beautiful smile for us, so it's nice to be on this side of things. Wax gives an understanding of perfect shapes to suit all different smiles. It also allows us to refine our art for when we do direct composite veneers on front teeth. All our Gentle Dentists love creat...ing beautiful smiles! Call 9405 1305 or book online for an examination and smile consultation http://bit.ly/GentleDentalCentre Finance options also available.

22.01.2022 Why does my dentist ask me to poke my tongue out at them? Yes, we already know you dont like us Did you know that dentists can refer to medical specialists? One of the most common specialists we refer to are ENTs. As part of your dental examination our dentists assess the surrounding oral soft tissues, lips and throat to check for any abnormalities. We also can pick up things quicker than before they become problematic because we see you every 6 months-12 months.

21.01.2022 Getting used to the dentist early is pretty easy when Mum is a dentist! Our top tips for the first dental visit: - dont make it a big deal, you dont need to prep them for it, pretend its as routine as going to the shops - avoid saying things like "be brave" or "if youre bad theyll give you a needle". Kids will wonder why they need to be brave, they didnt think the dentist would be scary until you told them. We often need to give needles for treatment so best not to ment...ion it - come with all your questions! Well be happy to answer them - practice looking in their mouth and helping them brush at home, just with a flannel or a silicone teether for babies 6-12 months Call us on 9405 1305 if you have any questions!

19.01.2022 Are you one of those people who hate the dentist because youre afraid a procedure might hurt? Never fear, Gentle Dental is here! Dental procedures such as fillings, root canals and extractions should NOT hurt during the treatment. Our Gentle Dentists ensure this by: 1. Numbing all the possible nerves which supply the tooth. Some people have additional nerves which supply their teeth! We would rather you be extra numb than not. ... 2. Waiting to let the anaesthetic penetrate the nerve before starting the procedure. We always book in plenty of time to allow for that. 3. We will NEVER continue with a procedure which still causes you discomfort. Our surgeries are a safe space where you are in control to stop at any time Here is an image which represents the nerves which supply your teeth. Its no wonder toothaches cause so much grief! Alot of our patients tell us a toothache is worse than childbirth. Did you know its also very common to have "referred pain" where the pain runs along the nerve back to the nerve root, then back out. Even sometimes when it feels like a bottom tooth, it could actually be on the top! Our dentists have in depth knowledge of the jaws anatomy and put it into practice by delivering an experience thats as comfortable as possible for you.

15.01.2022 What to do when your toddler hates brushing teeth! Yes even a dentists child hates brushing her teeth Keep it positive! Its normal for toddlers to refuse to brush. They are testing boundaries and need us to guide them to where they are. Brushing is a non negotiable part of a childs health routine like nappy changes or mealtime. There can be variations within the activity but it should be made into a daily habit. Acknowledge how theyre feeling and their want to do ...it themselves or refusal to. But still be firm with that its something that needs to be done Dont stress about the technique of plaque removal too much, its more important to reinforce a positive habit Give choices which NO is not a response to. Ask things like "Would you like to brush during or after bathtime?" "Do you want to use your blue or your green brush today?" Show pictures or videos of animals and children brushing Read books about brushing teeth and visiting the dentist Brush with them Let them brush their own teeth first and also brush yours. Letting them have a toothbrush or silicon toothbrush style teether to hold and the parent to have another toothbrush to brush their teeth Let them see themselves in the mirror Sing a song during brushing Explain what youre doing and why! Toddlers are very clever and love predictability. Sportscast that youre brushing their top molars, now their bottom molars, now their front teeth etc. Explain that you are brushing so the teeth are nice and clean and shiny, for older toddlers can explain about sugar bugs. For them to open mouth ask them what a lion/dino says (roarrrr) or can you open as big as a crocodile? For brushing front teeth can ask them say cheese or to smile If you believe in external rewards then sticker charts, a fun toy etc may be used Apps or songs during brushing may help Let us know your tips for brushing a toddlers teeth!

10.01.2022 It's Breast Cancer Awareness month. This is an issue close to Dr Sherry Wong's heart as her own Mum was diagnosed with it 4 years ago. After surgery, radiation and chemotherapy she has now been cancer free since completion of treatment! So now is a readily active and available babysitter for when Dr Sherry is working These are the ways our Gentle Dentists support patients with cancer - examination - maintaining oral health and eliminating infection is very important in orde...r to allow the body to deal with fighting issues elsewhere - preventive strategies - dry mouth results in reduction of your ability to fight tooth decay. Our dentists can discuss products on the market which can help prevent decay or gum disease - oral side effects - chemo and radiation therapy can cause challenging side effects like loss of taste and dry mouth. Our dentists can recommend products to help provide comfort from these side effects - bisphosphonate injections - one of the preventive drug regimes during and post cancer affects the bones. This can increase the risk of necrosis in the jaw so it's important to prevent and deal with these things early so that we reduce and manage the likelihood of extractions - support- if you need a sympathetic ear we are all great listeners and want to be part of your health team supporting you on this journey For all our grandmothers, mothers, daughters, sisters, nieces and women in our global family

03.01.2022 Fruit is a healthy snack right? Sultanas have 29.3g of sugar and the Coca Cola 40g Many things have hidden sugar or an unexpected amount in them. Fruits nowadays seem much sweeter than they used to be!... Some tips for keeping snacks "teeth healthy" - for fruit, choose fresh vs dried if possible - avoid juice, if having juice then the least processed (with pulps present and fresh) and ones with no added sugars are best - try not to snack, to reduce the frequency of "decay danger zone" during the day - eat sugary things as quickly as possible vs sipping/eating slowly which increases duration of exposure - pick low carb/low sugar (often high protein or high fat) options - drink water often and especially after a sugary treat - brush afterward See more

01.01.2022 Did you know that even animals have their teeth brushed? They also can be susceptible to oral conditions like dental decay and gum disease. Our Gentle Dentists recommend humans to brush their own teeth (although anyone under the age of 7 has a caregiver assist them) twice a day, once in the morning and most importantly, once at night. The night brush is the most important due to saliva flow being low during sleep and any food or drink remnants sticking to the teeth for a long duration of time overnight. Cleaning between the teeth with floss or interdental brushes should be done once a day. After a scale and clean is a great "reset" time to get back on track with good oral hygiene habits! Call us on 9405 1305 or book online http://bit.ly/GentleDentalCentre

01.01.2022 Dr Sherry shares her tips on how to floss! 1. Once a day is ideal (not once a year...) 2. Immediately before or after brushing is ideal but any time of day is better than nothing 3. Tape tends to slide into tight teeth better but whatever your preference is fine 4. Floss sticks can be used instead... 5. Interdental brushes are great as well, especially for bigger gaps See more
