25.01.2022 Wishing you and your dogs a safe and happy Easter!!!!

25.01.2022 ****LEARNING MOMENT***** Have you thought about your garden design and what could be dangerous to your pets??? Check out this list of poisonous plants to our pets. Another great list to identify TOXIC PLANTS is on aspca.org https://www.aspca.org//animal-p/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants

23.01.2022 Great video to understand & provide for your dog's life needs

23.01.2022 Straight to the point!!!!!!! Researching and understanding the breed traits in your puppy/dog is so important. We can identify them as a strength or weakness depending on the situation they are in. The other great thing to do with this knowledge is to make fun and functional games of their distinctive skill sets - channel these instinct behaviours for GOOD rather than Evil!!! The prey pole used in this video is a great chase/point activity for these dogs.... Avoid obsessive patterning by the dogs with lots of stopping and starting of the game after a little chill out moment = good manners, good impulse control, good relax. Check in & Chill Out!! Remember to release the dogs from this job/game - game over, go and relax :) The most mesmerising 2 and half minutes and the best Mannequin challenge I have seen so far :)

19.01.2022 Understanding puppies and mouth behaviours! Some great tips below to help you and your puppy learn mouth manners, have lots and fun and keep your skin intact

19.01.2022 Loving this COOL game on such a HOT DAY!!!

18.01.2022 A rainy day doesn't mean inside time is boring - modify your dog game activities to indoor versions. Nose games can burn as much energy as a walk, so add these activities to your dog game tool kit :)

18.01.2022 Consent testing - asking a dog permission to say hello. So important in communicating with our pets, setting all of us up for success!!

16.01.2022 In the human world, we've all been encouraged to open up and remove the stigma around mental illness. But you may not realise that our pets are also prone to th...eir dark days and are (for obvious reasons) even less likely to talk about it. Understanding our pet's mental health can also save lives. In fact, it's estimated that more pets die from being euthanased for behavioural reasons than any other health issue combined. The most common mental health issue of all is anxiety. But picking it isn't as easy as you think. Yawning when they're not tired, shivering when they're not cold and even licking their lips when they haven't been eating are actually telltale signs. But other clues lie in behaviours that were previously just thought to be 'destructive' or from boredom. Digging, chewing and even escaping are common warning signs of a dog not coping with their current situation. However, recognising their struggles is the first step to helping them heal and find love again. After all that 'bad' dog might just be affected by the 'black dog'...

16.01.2022 Adding more ENRICHMENT to your dog's day - everyday!!!

16.01.2022 Too many layers of unexpected/excitable/stressful triggers can cause a "shorter fuse" response in your dog. Love this great poster showing "trigger stacking" - helping you to understand your dog's responses and to help them succeed in life :)

16.01.2022 Understand the scales of a warning conversation from any dog - know them, understand them, create change with movement and respectful space before the bigger conversation skills are required. Flight-Fright(Freeze)-Fiddle-Fight(Bite): the conversation is not always in this sequence so please observe and respect each signal. Share to keep friends, family and your dogs safe and happy together

08.01.2022 Hello Rules - Doggy Style!

08.01.2022 LEARNING MOMENT :) Kids & Dogs - how to be safe. Be A Tree is a great education post about using body language to be safe around an unwanted or unknown dog appr...oach. Dogs are visual communicators and will read your body messages. No running or screaming required - this will only escalate the dog's approach behaviours to you. The dog will see this as a play/prey signal, so do the opposite and turn their interest off. So, Be a Tree! Share, share, share, share with friends, family, playgroups, school groups!!

08.01.2022 Great employment opportunity for any of our GDTA trainer alumni!!!

06.01.2022 Understanding dog body language helps you identify when your dog needs space, choice and calm. Identify their stress cues and create the change they need to find their happy and relaxed state.

06.01.2022 Calling all dog trainers looking for a great job - puppy training, dog walking & so much more. Check out Bark in the Park and the link in their comments to find out more

05.01.2022 A great way to help our dogs with novel, overwhelming or previously traumatic experiences is to break it down in to small steps of experience and practice. We use: 1. Counter-conditioning (turning a negative in to a positive) and 2. Systematic Desensitisation (repeated small layers of exposure paired with a positive association and resulting tolerance & confidence from the dog)... As we prepare SPUD for her annual vet visit, we start with handling tolerance and confidence. We are helping her overcome a stressful vet experience in the past. Our next step was to pop in to the clinic for a friendly visit - "HAPPY HELLO" time. We all need a few dress rehearsals before the Live Show, so practice vet exam experiences on a regular basis for your dog to accept as one of their "normals" or confidently tolerated experiences.

04.01.2022 Easter Safety Tips!!!!

02.01.2022 A dog's ability to communicate is mostly NON VERBAL - so look and "listen" with your eyes. If we identify earlier signs of stress we will be able to give our dog's the space they need to succeed, rather than be pushed to a bite reaction. Think of these expressions in terms of the turning of the volume knob, starting low/quiet and building up to high/loud in this great image of the steps to a dog bite.... Respect a dog's communications. If we punish any of these signs the dog will stop expressing them and escalate to "sudden" reactive/aggressive responses because the lower volume signs have been shut down.
