25.01.2022 Uh oh... I turn my back for one moment, and apparently Im holding a staff party!!
25.01.2022 Kids with ADHD often attract attention for their disruptive behaviour, but behind that behaviour is an amazing human!
25.01.2022 Many people are struggling to cope with grief currently. How to help someone through their grief is confusing and challenging. We cant heal someones pain by taking it away from them. But we can support them by acknowledging their pain. We can allow the hurt to exist for them, without trying to fix it.
24.01.2022 Sadly this is a real problem, which I have confronted both in my role as a professional and as a friend. I urge ALL adults to sit up and take this seriously.
23.01.2022 I’m looking forward to healing hugs with my beautiful horses after immersing myself in childhood trauma for 5 days.
23.01.2022 Wishing all the wonderful mums out there a happy Mothers Day!
22.01.2022 This 10 minute video is worth watching. Absolutely devastating to see how fast the on-line predators approached a child with sexualised comments.
22.01.2022 We hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas! Enjoy your holidays and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year.
22.01.2022 If you suffer from chronic pain and are unsure how psychology can help you, this free online event may be worth attending.
22.01.2022 Today we remember and honour the brave service men and women, the horses, dogs, mules, donkeys and pigeons who have sacrificed their lives in battle. It is estimated that 400,000 horses have left our shores for combat, but only 1 horse has ever returned home to Australia. Lest We Forget.
21.01.2022 Suicide is the leading cause of death for men aged between 15 and 44. More men die of suicide than car accidents each year. October is Mental Health Awareness Month, let’s start talking.

21.01.2022 ATTENTION Parents & guardians!! Please be aware of a graphic viral video on social media (incl. Facebook, Instagram, TicTok & Twitter) depicting a suicide. The extremely disturbing video may be hidden in other content, and found accidentally by kids. Please be vigilant and protect your children of all ages from viewing this graphic video. As always, please monitor social media use closely. The advice is to keep children off social media until the content has been removed. 21.01.2022 When you notice a change in someones behaviour, regardless of how small, trust your instinct and ask are you ok?. You may start a conversation that could change a life... Tomorrow is R U OK? Day, who can you ask?
19.01.2022 This is both alarming and disturbing. Regardless of the YouTube Kids restrictions, violent, sexual, and disturbing content is apparently slipping through the cracks in their algorithm. Be vigilant!
18.01.2022 Its better to be safe rather than sorry.
18.01.2022 October is Mental Health Awareness Month. We cannot change what we cannot accept. It’s time to lose the stigma attached to mental heath issues and time to start honestly accepting and addressing our Mental Health. After all... if you had a broken leg you wouldn’t ignore it!! #MentalHealthAwareness
18.01.2022 Social solidarity, not social distance... Staying socially connected in times of threat has benefits beyond helping us manage our mental well-being.
18.01.2022 This is frightening... Children as young as 4 are being groomed on social media and apps such as TikTok. And its happening in Australia. Parents and their children needed to be more alert to the risks of online communications.
17.01.2022 I wonder if I could have a baby sloth to work alongside the horses??
17.01.2022 Don’t believe everything you think... Is it really so simple? Here at Gentle Rein Therapies, we understand that learning to identify the thoughts not to be believed is a challenge... but definitely worth the effort.
16.01.2022 So very true...
16.01.2022 October is Mental Health Awareness Month. Let’s start talking... #MentalHealthAwareness

14.01.2022 Hi everyone, if you have been following our Instagram Gentle_rein_therapies account, please note we have unfortunately had to delete the account due to constantly being hacked. Please unfollow our Instagram account.
13.01.2022 Give it a try! Ask your kids for advice and offer it back to them when they need it.
12.01.2022 It’s better to be safe rather than sorry.
12.01.2022 Sometimes we need help changing our perspective
12.01.2022 A nice picture of what therapy would look like...if our words & thoughts were coloured lines...
11.01.2022 To all my fellow Mornington Peninsula & metro Melbourne residents struggling with our restrictions... just do the best you can...that’s all any of us can do.
11.01.2022 Spring is a great time to start new projects, including improving your mental health & wellbeing.
11.01.2022 As parents its essential that we say no to our kids, and allow them to experience adversity. Experiencing adversity develops resilience, creativity and a sense of ability. Kids learn how to regulate their emotions and behaviour. Unfortunately parents are becoming paralysed by their fear of being a bad parent. Kids need a parent figure, not another best friend. Its ok- and necessary- to say no to your kids.
10.01.2022 I would like to thank everyone for their support last week. The conference went great! I had positive feedback, and I made new international friendships thanks to my presentation. I would like to put a special 'thank you' out there to Pieter, for inviting me to present at the 2nd International Conference of Neuropsychotherapy and for his encouragement & support.
10.01.2022 It's going to be a big week of trauma and neuroscience! I've been waiting to attend this amazing childhood trauma conference since I was at the last one in 2016. http://childtraumaconf.org

09.01.2022 Less than 5 months to go ...

08.01.2022 To all of the incredibly supportive friends of Gentle Rein Therapies, thank you for your patience while Janine has been unwell. We look forward to returning soon...
08.01.2022 During this time of restrictions and social isolation, you may feel sad and miss your normal lifestyle. You may also be aware of a sense of disbelief, of irritability and frustration. This is all a part of grief; as we grieve missed events and opportunities, changes to our autonomy and our usual way of life. If you are struggling to manage your sadness, irritability, anxiety or stress, please seek professional psychological support.
07.01.2022 ***Parents & Carers- just incase you haven’t heard of the Momo Challlenge... please be aware...***
06.01.2022 Couldn’t have said it better myself... worth the read.
06.01.2022 As governments are trying to figure out how to ease back into a new normal, please remember: Some people dont agree with the suggested reopening.... thats okay. Be kind. Some people are still planning to stay at home.... thats okay. Be kind.... Some are still scared of getting the virus and a second wave happening.... thats okay. Be kind. Some are sighing with relief to go back to work knowing they may possibly save their business or their homes....thats okay. Be kind. Some are thankful they can finally have a surgery they have put off....thats okay. Be kind. Some will be able to attend interviews after weeks without a job....thats okay. Be kind. Some will wear masks for weeks....thats okay. Be kind. Some people will rush out to get the hair or nails done.... thats okay. Be kind. The point is, everyone has different viewpoints/feelings and thats okay. Be kind. We each have a different story. If you need to stay home, stay home. But be kind. If you need to go out, just respect others when in public and be kind! Dont judge fellow humans because youre not in their story. We all are in different Financial - and - Mental states than we were months ago. So remember, be kind. Copy, paste, and share as a reminder to BE KIND!
06.01.2022 Only 5 more sleeps!!
06.01.2022 Wish I could have brought the horses to Melbourne with me to calm my nerves... the conference starts tomorrow and I present on Thursday morning! Only two more sleeps to go!
06.01.2022 If you have ever been brave enough to take your child’s electronic device away, were you met with tantrums, poor attention, boredom, apathy, or a general disinterest in life beyond the screen? Brain images are showing that digital devices can affect the brain’s frontal cortex and the amount of neurochemical dopamine in our children’s brains, just like the drug cocaine would. Yes, it is scary. The good new is that you’re kids don’t need to become addicted to screens. With a proactive approach, limiting screen time, offering alternative activities, and maintaining communication as a parent, we can help out kids avoid developing digital addictions.
06.01.2022 Conflict cannot survive without your participation
06.01.2022 Finally... a Royal Commission into Mental Health funding! Hopefully leading to increased funding to help those in need
06.01.2022 Thank you for your patience while we’ve been unwell at Gentle Rein Therapies. Back to work next week!!

05.01.2022 Many people in our community are experiencing grief and struggling to understand their emotions, thoughts, physical and behavioural changes. The following article is a great start to understanding the grief process, however seek the professional help of a registered psychologist if you are struggling. https://www.psychology.org.au/for-t/Psychology-topics/Grief#
04.01.2022 Be informed and vigilant. Have a look at any app before you agree to your child having it on their device.
04.01.2022 Mental Health Foundation Australia presents the Mental Health Wellbeing Walk as part of National Mental Health Month 2019. The perfect opportunity to move together for a great cause!
03.01.2022 The dangers of unregulated and unmonitored social media use are real. We need to be informed and vigilant as caring adults. Porn, pedophiles, sexualised behaviours, nude child selfies, promotion of eating disorders, suicide options, and self harm tips are all readily available. As is the negative effect of online popularity (or lack of) on body image, self esteem, anxiety, depression... and of course suicidality. Remember parents... you have the right to say no to your kids. It is after all our duty to keep them safe.
03.01.2022 *** PARENTS *** Let’s take the time to teach our kids how to behave when playing/chatting online. The online world is a minefield that they are not equipped to navigate without our help. Educate kids of all ages to be wise and aware, and encourage communication if they have any concerns. Consider it a proactive approach to mental heath!
