25.01.2022 Rather happy with how this looks in print . Sunset and the National Carillon

25.01.2022 Back a few years at the beautiful Cathedral Rock at Bombo NSW. Feels strange not to have done any travelling this year...

25.01.2022 Beginner's photography workshops are back! Now that spring is here and Canberra continues to have very low to no cases of Covid I'm recommencing my photographer workshops This workshop I've been running since 2016 and is designed to give you the fundamentals to make an immediate improvement to your photography and start understanding your camera better Always run in small groups and now with an emphasis on distancing we will spend four hours down by the shore of Lake Burley G...riffin helping you to love your camera and the images it can produce Check the comments for a link ;-)

24.01.2022 So lovely seeing the #cherryblossoms finally, blossoming. The tail end of this year is just around the corner. In the midst of all the darkness try to keep an eye out for something lovely and endearing

23.01.2022 Juuuuuuuust in case you missed that spectacular rainbow! (...nobody mention "The Dome" ...)

22.01.2022 Lovely little flower on the Westringia shrub, bush, plant, thingy... Anyway, the flower is about the size of the fingernail on my pinky finger. Taken via a process called focus stacking, the camera takes multiple shots (about 30 for this one) incrementally moving the focus forward to capture the entire flower. The images are then stacked in software to produce the final result :) Canon EOS R5, EF100mm Macro, x30 1/13 f/8 ISO100

21.01.2022 First strike of the season AND a rainbow!

21.01.2022 I went exploring with my Macro lens at the Australian National Botanic Gardens the other day <3 such a nice day

21.01.2022 There's always light, sometimes it can just be a little hard to see. From early this year as we waited to get through another hard time. I hope you're taking care

20.01.2022 Not sure which I like more, the colour or the black and white? The falls at Googong Dam has been on my to do list for quite some time and a few weeks ago I finally got out there for an explore. Really glad I did, quite a few different scenes to capture and my camera didn't even take a swim despite some occasionally creative tripod work Canon EOS R and Nisi filters - 4sec f/18 ISO100

18.01.2022 When Elise decided her framed print of Winter Morning needed something to round it out she felt Tower in the Mist was the perfect companion Prints are roughly A2 in size in frames about A1. Archival quality prints by a Certified Canson Printer (me )

18.01.2022 Just a calm reflecting scene to finish out the day

17.01.2022 The Milky Way lights up the water on Lake George Sharing is caring

16.01.2022 Recently the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography (NZIPP) had their annual IRIS photography competition. This is normally a print competition but yes thank you covid they moved to an online digital comp. These two images were shot from on high in South Australia and received bronze awards

16.01.2022 I hope you have had a lovely weekend

15.01.2022 MARS rising over Lake George A week ago I posted a photo of what I said at the time was a star rising over Lake George. This was because I relied too much on technology when I should have gone with my gut. I could see the bright light in the sky and reflecting in the water below but when I check my Sky Guide app it wasn't pointing out anything and Mars wasn't due to rise for another hour or so. Being late and cold (I'd been out there for three and half hours) I called it a... night, posted the next day and thought no more of it After ABC Canberra featured the image a wonderful lady stood by her feels that the image was of Mars and not a star, despite what I felt. She was so adamant I went back to Sky Guide again, put in the date and time I was at the Lake and Mars still wasn't due to rise - if I was in far western Victoria turns out my geo location was not Canberra, once I updated it, yep it's Mars I've been shooting astro for years but it is a poignant lesson in not being complacent and relying on technology just a little too much So here is the photo again with the proper title "Mars rising over Lake George"

15.01.2022 So last night's sunset photo was a shot from the hip iPhone snap. Here's the same scene from my big camera with a bit of post. Happy Friday and feel free to share <3 Canon EOS R5, 16-35mm, 1/10 f/13 ISO400

14.01.2022 Comet Neowise in Australia Unfortunately we didn't get the same amazing shots from Comet Neowise that others did in the northern hemisphere. But that doesn't mean we haven't been able to capture it! Too faint to see with the naked eye you miiight be able to see it with binoculars or a telescope though it will be very dim. But don't wait too long to try, it will be gone soon... Happy for you to share from this page Captured 9pm 13 August 2020 out at Lake George The Canberra Page #cometneowise Canon EOS R5, Startracker, 200mm f/2.8 1min ISO3200

14.01.2022 Results of the Australian Mono Awards by Capture magazine are in and amongst some shortlists I made are these two landscapes which received a Highly Commended and a Commended The HC was for the Salt Lake image which was shot from my series above Lake Eyre. The Lightning Strikes are from a storm here in Canberra at the start of last year that I have previously offered as a large panorama or split into a three panel triptych Been a bit hard to push myself to enter competitions lately as I have to go through the back catalogue, doesn't feel like I have a lot of fresh work to offer. Hopefully new things will come about soon

14.01.2022 Large Magellanic Cloud taken the other night at Lake George when I chased the Neowise comet. Glad I went when I did because of this weather at the moment :(

14.01.2022 I've just sent out a short newsletter highlighting my latest print, free shipping tomorrow for Handmade Market, some info about Christmas giving through GIVIT, and an update on my photography workshops. So have a read, have a subscribe, have a great weekend :) https://mailchi.mp//handmade-virtual-market-christmas-givi

14.01.2022 After the success of the last Intro to Astro Photography Zoom workshop I'm running another one this Friday 21 Aug. That will set you up perfectly for a great weekend of exploring astro photography because there's no moon to impact your shots!

14.01.2022 From the recent New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography (NZIPP) IRIS Awards I also received a couple of Silver awards for these images above Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre One is effectively how the shot was seen, the other has been made into a fine art rendition. Both are aerial photos taken about 1,500 feet above the lake through the open door of a very small plane :)

13.01.2022 Good news, I am kicking off my Beginner DSLR and Mirrorless Workshops again. It's been a while but it's time to start brushing up on your camera skills for spring and summer :)

12.01.2022 Beautiful winter days followed by bleak winter days. So many different outfits. Hopefully the sun shines through soon

11.01.2022 Finished the framing for Telstra Tower at Sunrise just in time to be picked up this afternoon

11.01.2022 This time last year up at The Daintree in Queensland. This was a sunrise shot in beautiful tropical weather. Kinda right now wanting to have an out of body experience and be there... Canon 5D Mk IV, 2min f/11 ISO100

10.01.2022 I've taken many many photos OF Telstra Tower, but never any photos FROM Telstra Tower. How strange...

10.01.2022 Make sure you poke your head outside tonight. The moon, Jupiter and Saturn all line up very nicely This shot, however, is just the moon for your mooooooning pleasure

09.01.2022 Always listen to your photographer's instinct I had been on the road most of the day and had only just got across the border feel very tired and ready to go home. I could see there was a bit of cloud about and there was the promise of a nice sunset Every part of me just wanted to be done, and I debated with myself at length. Ultimately my photographer's instinct won out and despite a short run up Mount Ainslie (not a park to be found) I came down and found this delivered up... before me I'm glad I listened :) Canon EOS R5 1/500 f/9.0 ISO100

08.01.2022 Got down for the Namadgi Visitors Centre to check out winning and highlighted images from the National Parks Association Environmental Photography competition in association with PhotoAccess and Icon Water. Really makes you want to get out there and start shooting!

08.01.2022 Last night I was privileged to be involved in something a little special. Capturing precious memories for Neil and his family watching the Brumbies go up against the Force Neil was diagnosed with a brain tumour back in 1984 Since then his journey hasn’t been easy especially this last 12 months Watching his beloved Brumbies play live is something very special for Neil but when Covid started to spread he thought that he would never watch a live match again... Then along came Dreams2Live4 and the Brumbies giving Neil this opportunity to attend a live football match, Covid safe in a corporate box. This is the ultimate dream for Neil to be out there cheering on a team that he loves. To do this with his family just means the world to all of them From Neil and Trina a big thank you goes to all that have made this possible including Dreams2live4, Brumbies Rugby, Rugby Australia and Adobe

06.01.2022 The setup last night for another cracking sunset looked promising. Unfortunately other than a brief peek of colour through the clouds, the cloud ceiling was just a little too low so didn't quite deliver. Still, wasn't a wasted trip #firstworldsunsetproblems :) Feel free to share if you would like to brighten someone's day <3

06.01.2022 Something very special to share today. A little while ago I was commissioned to create a couple of prints for ACT Parks and Conservation Service to go into the historic Gudgenby Ready-Cut Cottage. Well I've now seen the prints framed and on the wall and I think they look great! The size is deceptive but the panorama of Orroral Valley is over a meter wide and the Geodetic Dome is an A2 size print <3 Now unfortunately Gudgenby Ready-Cut Cottage is still closed to bookings due to the bushfires earlier this year but hopefully you'll be able to have yourself a little staycation in this beautiful spot in the near future

05.01.2022 It was a bit of fun chasing the yellow fields of canola around the Harden region last weekend. You basically have to keep your eyes open and be prepared to explore. Oh and a gps helps find your way out too

05.01.2022 Yesterday I got out to the Harden region to go exploring and looking for canola fields. I wasn't disappointed <3 It was fun driving around the area looking for fields of gold which ranged from sparse to thick and lush

04.01.2022 Very happy to have framed Mars Rising and it looks great. Mars over Lake George and being reflected in the water below just pops. A2 print on fine art Canson Baryta in a black A1 frame

03.01.2022 Last month I had the opportunity to be involved in a special event as part of the Dreams2live4 capturing Neil and his family watch the Brumbies take it to the Force. Here's a little montage put together by Dreams2Live4 Big thanks to Brumbies Rugby, Rugby Australia and Adobe

02.01.2022 The Handmade Canberra Virtual Market is on today <3 As a special for the day I'm offering free delivery on all orders above $100. So put on your mostest comfiest slippers and onesie and have a browse of the market to check out all the amazing vendors. P.s. only 90 sleeps till Christmas!

01.01.2022 A star* rises over the fresh water of Lake George *Actually it's Mars, my Sky Guide had my location as West Vic so it indicated Mars was not in the sky

01.01.2022 See #Canberra differently Panorama of Telstra Tower at sunrise in a custom white frame ready for a new home Handmade Canberra
