25.01.2022 GROUNDS CLOSED: All Sutherland Shire Council turf playing fields are closed today, Wednesday 5 May 2021 due to wet weather.

20.01.2022 Earlier today we announced the junior winner of the NEWLANDS AWARD for our MOST IMPROVED TEAM (congratulations again 14Cs!!) Now it's time to announce our senior team winner... CONGRATULATIONS W38B-1s!! Our W38B-1s kept getting better as the season went on, although their coach still wished they played as well as they drank their bubbly... In case you missed it, in 1979 Bardon LaTrobe was unable to send teams to GRFC so their visit was replaced by a visit from a combined U10/11 squad from Newlands FC based in Wellington, New Zealand. As a gesture of appreciation for the hospitality we showed to Newlands FC, they donated a perpetual trophy to us. And today it goes to our W38B-1s. Well done ladies!!

20.01.2022 Tonight, we announce the winner of the CEC & UNA SMITH PERPETUAL TROPHY for the SENIOR MANAGER OF THE YEAR. Cec & Una Smith’s association with GRFC began in 1967 when their eldest son Barry started playing football. Their other son Neil began in 1968 and their daughter Colleen followed a few years later. Cec coached at GRFC for 26 years, including coaching the first team to bring the trophy back from Bardon La Trobe. He was the club’s delegate to the association for 13 years... and also served on the SSFA committee for 5 years. Cec received an SSFA Merit Award in 1983 and was bestowed GRFC Life Membership in 1998. Una served as manager to the many teams Cec coached. She also worked tirelessly over the years in the canteen, on the Ladies Auxiliary and in the organisation of social functions for the club. Una has been on the GRFC Committee since 1993 as the Senior Liaison Office (a title she still holds) and received an SSFA Merit Award in 1986 and GRFC Life Membership in 1996. Cec sadly passed away in 2012. When he passed the club received many requests for a trophy to be named in his honour. The club decided to take it one step further and also recognise Una’s ongoing work with GRFC and so named the perpetual Senior Manager of the Year Award as the Cec & Una Smith Award. Having been a coach and manager for many years, Una was very proud to have the award named after her and her late husband Cec. The award itself is based on many factors including having no (or minimal) match card infringements during the season, team organisation (including organising ground control), and their general support of the club. Una, with some input from the GRFC Head Manager, makes the final decision on the award recipient, and this year it goes to W38A team manager MELISSA GASSMAN. Congratulations Melissa, and many thanks to Cec and Una Smith!

18.01.2022 Today we're announcing the two winners of the NEWLANDS AWARD for our MOST IMPROVED TEAMS. Firstly, a huge congratulations goes to our junior winner, the 14Cs. The team started with a combination of lads from the 13s and 14s not knowing each other and there was much to sort out in the early games, but the team came together and made great progress in this shortened season. In fact, that showed the biggest improvement in results out of all our junior competitive teams. Well do...ne lads! And where does 'Newlands' come from? In 1979 Bardon LaTrobe was unable to send teams to GRFC so their visit was replaced by a visit from a combined U10/11 squad from the Newlands Football Club from Wellington, New Zealand. As a gesture of appreciation for the hospitality shown to Newlands FC, they donated a perpetual trophy to us. And which senior team won? More to come this evening...

06.01.2022 After every game, the coach & manager of our senior teams have the opportunity to vote '3-2-1' for their Player of the Match, with 3 points going to the best player on the park. Votes are submitted confidentially through our web portal and are tallied at the end of the season. The player with the most points across ALL teams and ALL divisions is declared our BEST & FAIREST SENIOR PLAYER OF THE YEAR. This season the honour goes to Aaron Jenkins from our 35F-1s. CONGRATULATIONS and well played Aaron, here's hoping you can help steer the team to Grand Final glory in 2021!

03.01.2022 Just as the dust settled at the end of Presentation Day 2019, Debbie Kearns was already busy planning for 2020, our 60th Anniversary. Busy planning grading days and summer soccer, along with our many planned 2020 events including numerous events to celebrate our 60th anniversary, culminating in another June long weekend fireworks display. When 2020 rolled around Debbie had all of our 103 teams ready to go, then bam! COVID put a stop to everything. Debbie (like most of us) was... devastated. But, as the likelihood of football returning increased, so did Debbie’s workload. Clubs had additional requirements to those placed on players and spectators. Debbie took it all in her stride, sourcing hand sanitiser stations and sanitiser, COVID signage, additional ground control vests for single-use, ensuring the clubhouse met strict guidelines, the list goes on. She was also an integral part of creating a COVID-compliant training schedule for all 103 teams. All this, and much more, before a whistle had even blown! Finally, we get to play and so begins Debbie’s weekly tasks including following up managers for names and numbers for ground control/canteen, sorting and arranging alternate strips for games that clash, weekly email updates to managers, checking referee coverage for competition games and sourcing referees for uncovered games, sorting match sheets, advising draw amendments, resourcing the Sunday BBQ, plus lots more. Then, there’s the early start on wet weekends advising field changes, managing the Tuesday night academies, and the 90 Tiger Cubs on a Friday night as well as input into the weekly Tiger Tales email newsletter. All club correspondence comes through Debbie. She is in constant correspondence with both the SSFA and the Council. She plays a major role in our grant applications. While most had given up on a Presentation Day (of some sort), Debbie was busy contacting every government department to make it happen and she almost did. If something needs doing before you blink it’s either already been done or arranged by Debbie. She also has two of her children playing for Georges River, so she does their share of ground control, whilst also ferrying her eldest son around the state as he plays AYL. We know we have understated just how much Debbie has done for our club this year (and every year). Debbie is invaluable and our club is so much better for having her. Whilst Debbie has been officially elected Secretary, Head Manager, Tiger Cub Coordinator, and Minutes Secretary, we know she does so much more, and it is with great pleasure that we deservedly recognise Debbie Kearns as GRFC’s Club Person of The Year!

03.01.2022 And now for the first of our individual awards: The Junior & Senior Goalkeepers of the Year!! Before we make the announcement, it is important to say that it is a coaches’ blessing to have competent keepers who in turn instill confidence in their teams each week. A goalkeeper is just as important, if not more so than a super striker. Bob Holme, our resident goalkeeping coach, is the selector for these annual awards. He looks for many things in the makeup of a goalkeeper, and ...Continue reading

03.01.2022 And now for our U13 ENCOURAGEMENT AWARDS: These individual trophies are awarded to two players in our U13s (one boy and one girl) in recognition of their potential and all-around attitude and sportsmanship. The winners have been nominated by our U13 coaches, the grading team, and GRFC’s Head Coach. This year a big CONGRATULATIONS goes to OSCAR RATLIFF & KEIRA PARKER.
