08.01.2022 Junior Fixtures - Round 1

08.01.2022 Working hard early on a Sunday morning The training doesn’t stop for our rep squads hoping to represent Geraldton at Country Week in late January through to February. to the families and volunteer coaches for supporting our young athletes attending early Sunday morning training today

07.01.2022 Happy International Basketball Day It was on November 6, 1861 that James Naismith was born. Thirty years later, Naismith was a young physical education teach...er at a YMCA in Massachusetts with bored students who needed an indoor athletic distraction during the winter. Naismith decided to nail two peach baskets to the balcony at both ends of a gymnasium. He divided his students into teams and they attempted to toss a ball into the basketsthe game of basketball was born. : Sports Imagery Australia

06.01.2022 We are really sorry but delighted our Holiday Clinic has Sold Out.

06.01.2022 Good luck to Tom Dobson as he represents WA Country at the U18 Australian Junior Championships getting underway in Victoria! Shout out to Mark Murrowood, an original member of the Buccaneers, who is also attending as an assistant coach. All of the games are being live streamed. 06.01.2022 MEMBER UPDATE: STADIUM EXTENSION As you know, the GABA completed a detailed funding application for the latest round of Community Sporting and Recreational Facilities Funding. We had hoped to build an additional four courts at the rear of the existing stadium. ... We have now been advised that the application has been unsuccessful. As a result of this decision, more children will be denied access to playing the sport of basketball in Geraldton. Demand has outstripped the supply of available courts for some years now but was particularly evident when our junior registration day was cancelled due to reaching maximum capacity two months before the most recent season started. This funding application was an opportunity to provide a facility that met the current and future needs of basketball and other sport and community users in Geraldton. We are very disappointed, particularly given the GABA has never been granted any funds from the State Government for our facilities which serve so many in the community. The State Government has just announced a $2.2bn surplus. We are still in discussions with them and hoping they can find a way to support our project. We will forge ahead with plans to build some additional court space as soon as possible but it will be smaller than hoped and ultimately come at a higher price to the community and our members. We hope for your continued support and will keep you updated on where to next.

05.01.2022 Seniors Fixtures Round 1

05.01.2022 Getting prepped for the season ahead! Great to see so many coaches from new to very experienced who attended the intro to junior coaching session during the week. Big thanks to BWA Midwest Gascoyne Development officer Dan Hunt and GABA referree coordinator Karl Pirrottina who ran the event.

05.01.2022 Some inspiration for all the kids gearing up for GABA season 2020/2021 at Activewest stadium. It all starts right here in juniors

04.01.2022 STADIUM DEVELOPMENT: MEMBER UPDATE The GABA has been contacted by Labor's candidate for Geraldton Lara Dalton to discuss how she could support the stadium extension project. Today we had another meeting with Lara and MLC Laurie Graham to discuss the overdue court space needs and the funds required to bring the project to fruition. ... We also discussed some additional 'wish list' elements not included in the CSRFF application. Lara has promised to do her best to continue to fight for the funds needed to build more court space in Geraldton. If you haven't already, please make sure you sign the petition to support the project https://www.walabor.org.au//lara-dalton-i-support-fundin/ Pictured: The GABA's Andrew Horstman and Peter Brown discussing plans and costings with Lara Dalton and Laurie Graham.

04.01.2022 A VERY BIG THANK YOU to the team at SportsPower Geraldton for their support of the GABA with signage sponsorship. Check out their signage on the far Eastern wall this basketball season! Thank you!

04.01.2022 Some of Geraldton's top U16 and U18 players will be in action at the annual City V Country clash in a couple of weeks. With the National Championships cancelled, this is an opportunity for the athletes selected to represent WA to show their stuff. Daisy Whitehurst... Finn Henderson Harry Evans Khaled Elshekheiby Sheldon McCagh Get along and show your support

04.01.2022 Tonight's match up between Trades and Hawks in PXD Men's 1 should be a very interesting one. Both teams are sitting on one win a piece and the winner will take fourth place on the ladder. Brad Roworth has been leading the way for Hawks on the scoreboard with Len and Tyrone Papertalk putting up some good numbers. ... Trades are a mix of youth and experience. Point guard Joe Iaria has been their most consistent with Charles Thurkle and Shaeden Edwards contributing well. Tip off is 7.30pm on the Panaceum Group Court.

04.01.2022 This #NAIDOC2020 Week we join Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 02.01.2022 Sign on for a new Basketball Stadium NOW Like Geraldton Amateur Basketball Association (GABA), I’m disappointed in the outcome of the CSRFF funding applic...ation. This is a very worthwhile project with huge community support and I’m determined to work with the club to help them secure funding. I’ll be raising the issue with the Premier and Sports Minister Mick Murray and urging them to support the project. I’ll continue working with the community to make the case for this fantastic local project. Geraldton Basketball Association is an important local club with over 2,000 members. This is a significant project for our local sporting community and one way or another, I want to see the funding delivered. I have launched a petition and I am asking you to sign up to get a new basketball stadium for Geraldton. Together we can get this new investment in our community underway. https://www.walabor.org.au//lara-dalton-i-support-funding/
