12.01.2022 UPDATED Severe Weather Warning for DAMAGING WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL For people in Illawarra, South Coast and parts of Metropolitan, Southern Tablelands and... Snowy Mountains Forecast Districts. Issued at 4:59 pm Saturday, 8 August 2020 by Bureau of Meteorology HEAVY RAIN IN THE SOUTHEAST, COASTAL WINDS TO INCREASE A trough along the New South Wales coast is deepening today, with multiple low pressure centres likely to develop within the trough tonight and Sunday. This system is currently bringing widespread rain to the southern half of the coast, and is set to bring increased winds as the low centres develop. HEAVY RAINFALL, which may lead to FLASH FLOODING and RIVERINE FLOODING, is forecast for the South Coast and Illawarra districts, and eastern parts of the Snowy Mountains and Southern Tablelands districts today and Sunday. There is a risk of heavy rain lingering into Monday morning. A Flood Watch is current for the South Coast river catchments. See http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/warnings/flood/floodwatch1.shtml for more information. DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with gusts in excess of 90 km/h, are possible along the coastal fringe of the South Coast district this evening, and on the Illawarra coastal fringe during Sunday, and the Sydney and Central coastal fringes Sunday afternoon and evening. Locations which may be affected include Sydney, Wollongong, Nowra, Bowral, Batemans Bay, Eden, Braidwood, Bega, Moruya Heads and Bombala. Rainfall totals for the 24 hours to 9am Saturday: Foxground 159mm Nowra 154mm Broughton Creek 143mm Port Kembla 106mm Rainfall totals since 9am Saturday: Broughton Creek 102mm Hampden Bridge 99mm Brogers Creek 88mm The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. Note that in areas impacted by fire earlier this year, trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall. Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill. Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water. Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides. Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500. In an emergency call 000. The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by the Bureau by 11:00 pm AEST Saturday. Monitor www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210 for updates.

06.01.2022 Text message scammers are using the coronavirus health crisis to try and steal banking details. Potential victims receive a text message on their mobile phone ...from 'GOV' telling them they need to get tested for COVID-19, and to click on a link. The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) says the messages are fake, and if you click on the link it may install malicious software on your phone, which is designed to steal your banking details. If you receive one of these messages, delete the message and DO NOT CLICK THE LINK. Visit the ACSC website for more information: https://ab.co/38XuL06

02.01.2022 Thought you may be interested to see a watercolour I have in my possession, painted either by my Mother or Great Aunt of 8 Riverleigh Ave Gerroa. This house was... built by my Grand Father , my Father, and family members. It was sold in 1966. I was told that there was an aboriginal camp across the river, with whom my GF went fishing. Black Head was a Dairy Farm. Sadly the house has recently been removed and the land is now up for sale. Now missing a major part of my childhood. Gerroa is still one of my favourite places. See more
