22.01.2022 View with a Room Series. 1980. Kiln formed and assembled. Bullseye and float glass. Gerry King is an artist and designer specializing in contemporary glass. His work is exhibited, collected and published internationally. It is held in some twenty public collections worldwide. Orientated towards exhibiting, he is also sought for design and architec...tural projects. Originally trained as a glassblower he now works with a wide variety of techniques. His works often have an underlying socio-political commentary. King first worked with glass while undertaking postgraduate studies in the USA during the early 1970s. He holds a variety of academic awards in art and education including a Doctor of Creative Arts from the University of Wollongong, [1993]. In the 1980's he was instrumental in the development of the Glass Studies course at the University of South Australia. Formerly the Coordinator of Glass and subsquently the Head of the School of Design he retired in 1996. On occasion he is engaged as a consultant, publishes articles on contemporary glass, teaches workshops, lectures and presents conference papers internationally. See more
