25.01.2022 We had our first group hike back in December and we've got another one this Sunday! This time we're heading to Cunningham's Gap to do Mount Cordeaux. We aren't about how fast we go, or what gear you've got - we're all about coming as you are and just getting out there. I know it can be scary meeting new people, especially on your own - but I promise we won't bite. 25.01.2022 I did a thing, another thing. I did my first adventure race. But first.....coffee (see stories). It was daylight hours, so 6 hours. Adventure racing is usually 24-28hrs of moving, so yep - no sleep. It was a run/trek, ride, run/trek, ride, paddle and then ride back to the start. This was also a rogaine style which meant no check points were mandatory, other races are linear which means you have to get them in order and are mandatory. So this was more of choose your own advent...ure. To be honest I was exhausted going into this, with MTBO all last weekend and well - that time of the month. TMI - sorry but not sorry. That’s the thing being a lady, this happens to all of us but we don’t talk freely about it, sorry but I am But I turned up, did what I could and had fun! We were out for 5.5hrs and got a good chunk but certainly not as much if my tank was 100%. 24.01.2022 [LETS TALK - PRE HIKE LIST] What the hell do you take on a day hike? Everyone started somewhere and let me tell you I’ve learnt maaaaany times what I’ve forgotten..... so here goes, a checklist I now do in my head for every hike. 1. What am I wearing - I plonk all my gear to slide into as soon as I wake, usually it’s super early so want to take the decision making and time out of it 2. What am I eating - so important, we all need snacks! My go to i...s..... peanut butter sandwich, I take the bread from freezer, slap on peanut butter (still frozen) and shove into a sandwich bag....seriously defrosts nicely and tastes WAY better on the trail! I stock pile nut bars, throw in an apple and banana....and possible a tuna/brown rice premix from Sirena.... 3. What am I carrying - I prep my backpack the night before and make sure there is; - Full 3L full water bladder All of the below just stays in my backpack.... - First aid kit - HAS to have pressure bandages x 2 for snakes.... never used them.... but you just never know!! - Head torch..... yep even for a sunrise hike, I’ve been caught out! - Hand Sanitiser..... post bush wee, pre eating.... COVID.... - Whistle (if not built into bag) - Waterproof bag cover and rain jacket - Personal Locator Beacon - Bushmans spray - Sunscreen Other things which would be handy are; - Swiss Army knife.... need to add this one to the list! - Tissues - Paw Paw cream for any cuts and scrapes (I wear long sleeve top and pants to avoid this) - Gloves for any scrambling . . #getoutthereadventures #hikingbackpack #hikingtips #hikingtipsforwomen See more

24.01.2022 Did a thing this weekend. I signed up for a 3 event championship for Mountain Bike Orienteering after trying it once a few weeks back. _________ Two events down, with one being an adventure (see stories). Do I know what I’m doing? Not really? Did I let that stop me? Nup! Would I have in the past? Yep! _________ We’re all newbies at everything to start right? So why do we stop trying new things because we are scared of not being good? Fear of failing? What happens if you succe...ed? 19.01.2022 Last week I took the camera and played around at sunset at Mount Gravatt. Here is the shot. Learning how to edit is just as much of an art as taking the photo, I found this just as much fun. Although its grainy, I'm pretty happy with getting out there and giving it a go. 15.01.2022 [Swipe to the end for a surprise] When the rainforest comes alive! After all this rain, one of our community members captured these magical shots on a recent walk to Green Falls Track. This trail can be done in 1.5 hours but if you go slowly and stop to listen, you might just see a lot more. The last pic is of a Python, they are big but harmless. 14.01.2022 Oh what a few days away exploring Bunya Mountains National Park! There are some great trails throughout this special place and although very dry, it was beautiful. There are two major sections, the western facing and eastern facing sections. The western facing was more Australiana bush where the eastern facing is more rainforest. If you want to be the first to hear all about these trails make sure you sign up and subscribe, I’ll be sending an email this Friday showing you... all the spots you need to explore! Info: Bunya Mountains is 3hours north west of Brisbane or 1hr 30min north of Toowoomba. You won’t get much phone reception which is great if you’re looking for time out but you need to be smart with letting people know where/when you’ll be. Info: Kondalilla Falls is an easy stroll to the top pools and is suitable for swimming so many sure you pack your bathers. If you want to do the full walk, it is called Kondalilla Falls Circuit and is a 4.7km return walk. 04.01.2022 Ok, so I got a lot of responses from our snake encounter yesterday. It was pretty epic! But I wanted to point out that it is spring, which means snakes are on the move. This guy was looking for the sun to bake in. That’s what they do this time of year! So I wanted jump on here to give some tips on being prepared along with some of the myths:... 1. If you’re hiking alone, take a personal locator beacon. You won’t always have reception so this will keep piece of mind. 2. Take a snake bandage, know what to do and how to use one. 3. Wear boots with high ankle support. This will give you some protection should one strike. 4. Wear knee high gaiters, again to give added protection if one strikes 5. Snakes are more scared of you so make sure you make yourself known so they move on before you get there. To do this, I hike with poles or drag a stick along the ground. I know snakes can be scary, but it really shouldn’t stop you from get out there and exploring. Just need to be aware, connected and prepared. 03.01.2022 Here's another 'Hot Tip' in being confident in the outdoors. Make sure you take a first aid kit, this doesn't have to be an expensive exercise. Nor does it need to be wrapped up in a container like this. I simply take the items I need in my backpack. The mandatory items you must take is; 1. Compression Bandages - at least 2 - for snake bites 2. Emergency Blanket... 3. Whistle Other items like scissors, gauze, band aids etc are also handy so getting a kit like this one is a good one to get. Full disclosure, I am not a medical professional and don't claim to be however I can't emphasis enough how important it is that you have some understanding of first aid. They confirmed it is suitable for dogs, confirming it’s a great little adventure. The trail is quite steep in parts so we have filtered this to be for intermediate hikers. 01.01.2022 What a beautiful tree, kids ahead of us were climbing it so I thought I’d be a big kid and climb it. Gee it was fun!! I don’t think we allow ourselves to play enough as adults. This is the Eastern facing side of Bunya Mountains with lovely rainforest. Although the creeks and waterfalls were dry it was a massive contrast to the western facing which is more Australiana bush.
