23.01.2022 What cant you afford to lose this bushfire season? There are some things you just cant replace if youre impacted by severe flooding, bushfire or cyclone. But making sure the things you can replace are covered by your insurance will make recovering from disaster just that little bit easier. If you cant remember the last time you checked your insurance policy, ask yourself these questions from our mates at @understandinsurance.... Is my area vulnerable to any natural hazards? How often are these hazards likely to occur in my area? Which of my assets would be affected? To what extent would l be affected financially? How would I recover if I did not have insurance? How can each disaster be predicted or mitigated? Once youve answered these questions, weve got a few extras for you to ask your insurer at https://bit.ly/2YYfB7Q.

23.01.2022 Weve got our fingers crossed for some rain this month Is your insurance up to date? Dont wait until its too late. Visit getready.qld.gov.au or call your insurer.

23.01.2022 The first step to preparing for disasters is understanding your risk. This is easier said than done when the type of risk and level of impact is different for every Queenslander (plus, your level and type of risks change over time too). To better understand the types of risks you face, visit https://www.getready.qld.gov.au/understand-your-risk

Drink plenty of water Keep out of the heat as much as possible Wear protective clothing when outside and take regular breaks in the shade Avoid hot foods, caffeine, sugary drinks, and alcohol. Hot temperatures also bring increased fire danger. Stay informed by tuning in to your local radio station, visiting bom.gov.au and following Queensland Fire and Emergency Services - QFES. If you have concerns about your health, speak to your doctor or call 13HEALTH. In an emergency, call 000 (Triple Zero).

22.01.2022 Queensland councils are sharing in $2 million as part of the 2020-21 Get Ready Queensland program to help communities prepare for disasters In the past decade, Queensland has been impacted by more than 80 significant disaster events, leading to a reconstruction and recovery bill of over $16 billion. Experience has shown communities that are well prepared prior to a disaster are more resilient and able to recover faster The Get Ready Queensland program supports locally-...led, practical preparedness activities and initiatives to help build community resilience from the ground up and helps councils fund activities that prepare communities for their unique risks. We cant stop disasters happening in Queensland, but we can all take steps to reduce the impact of those disasters on our loved ones, home, business, and community. While your local council prepares your community, you can prepare your household. For practical steps you can take to minimise your risk today, visit getready.qld.gov.au.

19.01.2022 Four factors that contribute to underinsurance with Understand Insurance 1. A gradual accumulation of possessions: Did you make the most of the EOFY sales? Make sure you regularly re-evaluate your possessions on a room-by-room basis so you know the total value of your content. 2. Not accounting for upgraded assets: If youve used your isolation time to renovate your kitchen, review your insurance to make sure your level of cover is still suitable. ... 3. Financial prioritisation: some people choose a premium they want to pay, then live with an arbitrary level of coverage this provides. This is not the same as working out the value of your assets and then insuring for that value. 4. Increased building costs: Building costs increase each year which could add up when it comes to rebuilding after a disaster. Keep in mind that if youre impacted by a widespread disaster, trades could be scarce in your area, making them even more expensive. For more on underinsurance, visit http://understandinsurance.com.au/do-you-have-enough-insura
