25.01.2022 Today we say farewell to someone who has had such a positive impact on the club. Head trainer Steph is moving back home to Canada after her short stint in Ballarat. We were lucky enough for her to walk into our gym way back in Feb. Everyone loved you around the club and we hope one day you decide you’re sick of Canada and you’d prefer to live through more Ballarat winters ... Ps we probably shouldn’t have taken a photo post workout (especially after a Murph workout ).

24.01.2022 One more sleep. We are ready & waiting

22.01.2022 With Christmas closing in, The Underground is on a mission to impact as many people in the community and help them get the kick start they need before the summer holidays!. At the Underground we do things a bit differently.. We program in 4 to 6 week blocks designed to strategically make you stronger and more mobile, and thus improving an individual's opportunity to hit peak performance in and outside the gym. ... The UG is about progress and moving the needle forward. It’s not a random HIIT gym, or a gym that's going to smash you with an intense random workout each day. HIIT training will see you get adaptive results initially before you plateau. You are recommended you do TWO sessions a day, or even worse cut your calories to push through the plateau. We program for life and so that individuals can transcend on a long term mission of learning and progression. We provide two programs: UGT Rapid: A 6-week training course designed to onboard new members with no experience (or very little), putting them in small focus groups of four people and developing their movement patterns and knowledge base. After six weeks these individuals have the know how & confidence to go into any gym environment and have faith in their movement patterns and work rate. UGT Core: This is our group sessions that occur five times a day and in these we strategically program for the top 5% of performers to get an elite service and program and then set parameters for people to work towards that. You're not expected to operate at the top tier, but at your level with individualised coaching in a group setting. This way beginners and advanced can enjoy the same session. If your keen to see what all the fuss is about and get involved in the Underground before Christmas hit us up

21.01.2022 We are officially into the 3rd & final week of Iso Games Whether you were a wildcard or athletic competitor, it has been a lot of fun keeping motivated in the final month of isolation. Wonder who will bring home the bacon? Lets have a massive week leading into the gym opening next Monday!!

20.01.2022 When life gives you lemons, make margaritas As we head back into stage 3 restrictions we go in having the benefit of experiencing it before. It’s vital that going into this lockdown we focus only on what we can actually control. Stressing about things outside our control just doesn’t make sense does it ? ... We go into stage three with clear heads. We can control how we help people. Focus on checking in on your friends and family. Have a laser focus on adding value to them and being a leader in your network. We can control our health: pick a focus for the next 6-weeks. It will stop you resorting to bad habits We can control our self care: be kind to yourself. Learn a new skill, relax, practice positive self chat! we can’t control the weather. we can’t control this virus. we can’t control our businesses being shut down. So don’t worry about it. Worrying about it doesn’t make you feel good or achieve anything! once again thank you for everyone who calls, messages, and texts. It makes everything worth it. Kick back and have a margarita on the Underground Ps stay tuned for our online options

19.01.2022 A few legends around the club have been participating in the #25pushupchallenge. The reason behind doing 25 push ups a day is raising awareness for PTSD, anxiety, depression & suicide. Each day you must nominate someone new to participate, hence why so many are getting amongst it in the gym! ... Well done to Ashton, Kelley, Pete, Dan, Zayne, Amanda, Jaime & Steph. This brings a great culture to the club

19.01.2022 Why do we include mobility in our programming? To really focus on where your body is immobile. Over the course of lockdown, a number of us are decreasing the amount we are standing/walking, which can lead to postural imbalances, lower back pain and other areas of soreness. So to relieve this, we do active and resisted stretching. We're focusing on our breathing and trying to push our body through the movements and increasing our range. The resisted stretches simply adds ...load and again tries to encourage a greater ROM. Understanding your body. It gives you the opportunity to understand where your body's strengths and weakness' are in regards to mobility. It gives you the opportunity to explore movements to better understand how your body feels in those movements. Rest/ Recovery. It’s good just to break the week up. Some people struggle to to slow down & love to push themselves hard for 4-6 times per week. That's fine if that works for you, but it's very challenging to maintain. As humans, we need our rest. We need allow our body to recover. Just because you may not be feeling soreness from a work out in the following days, does NOT mean that the workout wasn't good/effective. Even if you're not sore, your body will still be under stress for 24-48 hours post workout. Your work out doesn't simply last for the hour that you're actively moving. There's more that goes on behind the scenes that we don't see. It’s OKAY to slow down. The most important thing to do is to listen to your body. If you're mentally and physically wrecked, slow down. Do half a work out or go for a walk. There is absolutely no expectation that you have to continuously push your body through hell when you're drained. Doing that consistently leads to burn out and you losing enjoyment for exercise. Therefore, challenge yourself in your workouts and when you're feeling good, really strive to achieve as much as you can! But when you're a bit under the weather, don't be afraid to accept that and take the time to slow down. Brendan.

17.01.2022 Pretty stoked with the goals members are hitting in the gym We had a mission that post lockdown, everyone in the gym would have a focus on a goal. Fitness goals are the best way to maintaining motivation for exercise. It’s simple. Going to the gym and smashing yourself, trying to burn 700+ calories probably isn’t the best goal to maintain. And you don’t want to be depressing and aim to lose X kg per month. Your aim should be to do something fun in the gym or walking dai...ly, or hitting nutritional targets that will be important to translate your large goal into smaller daily actionable goals. A goal is an endpoint. At which point, you are rewarded for accomplishing what you set out to do. Once you have achieved that goal and feel good, you then set another. Success breeds success .

17.01.2022 Week 1 of outdoor training has been a hit!! Every class has booked out- rain, hail or shine We will be looking to add more sessions on next week in the mornings, so keep your eyes peeled. ... It’s good to see some faces around the gym again

16.01.2022 Our challenges aren’t a race to the finish line, it’s a race to the start. We don’t do challenges that.. Starve you! And leave you hungry, sore and craving the finish line so you can just go back to eating normally. Flog you with 7 sessions a week. Why? Because it’s not realistic, or sustainable and is more likely to steer you towards an unhealthy infatuation with doing the most intense session possible. You can get better long term results doing three well str...uctured sessions than 7 manic sessions (random HIIT classes). Give you all the resources at the start then it’s all up to you. We provide a fully catered service where if you do the work your guaranteed success! We use the 6 weeks to Form positive habits, to take into the rest of our lives. Become educated on movement patterns that build strong, resilient bodies! Become educated on hitting your minimums (key word is your). Become educated on what a real balanced nutrition program looks like. Eat for life, not for 6-weeks. If you want to do something different, something sustainable, something with a community based on integrity, bells and whistles a place where egos get left at the door, check us out See more

14.01.2022 And just like that, we are back into iso workouts. The next 6 weeks we want to do things a bit differently. It’s about fun, variation, community & entertainment. We need to treat this as a bit of fun, and we'll all make it through unscathed. Zoom sessions will see heaps of variation in adding Pilates, mediation, mobility, Tabata & stretching. All on top of our strength & conditioning core principles. ... Staying within social distancing rules & wearing face masks- we will be doing 2 on 1 & 1 on 1 PTs under cover at the gym car park. Fingers crossed the weather gods don’t smash us. We also will be doing run club/ dog walk club every Saturday morning to stay social. If there’s one thing we want everyone to do, is look out for each other. These are hard times. Go out of your way to help people. Let's focus on the impact you can have within your network. Leaders eat last, and each and every one of you has the ability to lead within our community. Let's get around each other, smash the next 6 weeks & get back to the gym more unified than ever

03.01.2022 We program for s&c but every Tuesday and Thursday it’s Energy System Development Day. What does this mean? Aerobic training, anaerobic training, cardio, conditioning, death . Whatever you want to call it. ... Researchers believe that splitting the cardio and lifting likely causes an increase in overall calorie burn, leading to a greater decrease in fat mass. Don’t focus on just strength or just cardio, mix it up to see your best results!

02.01.2022 Mask on Based on our understanding of COVID19, wearing a mask may potentially reduce the spread of any moisture exhaled from your mouth via breathing. If you are sneezing or coughing, it's probably not the time to be going to the gym anyway. ... Since your breath is projected outward with less force thanks to the mask, there's a decreased likelihood of spreading any pathogens outside of your small bubble. This is potentially a way to help protect those around you, should you be sick without knowing it. Everyone at the gym is going to be working hard and breathing heavy, so keeping all that breath from moving around may be helpful
