21.01.2022 POST OFFICE REGULAR HOURS Geurie Post Office is open Monday through Friday from 9.00am to 5.00pm (parcels are ready for pickup after 9.00am on the day the green parcel notice is delivered in your mail). Please note that the Post Office hours are DIFFERENT from the Geurie General Store hours. Although they are in the same building, just because the store is open, does not mean the Post Office is open. ... Please also be aware that parcels cannot be collected outside of Post Office hours and that no postal services are available on weekends. We strive to provide the best service possible to our community and be as accommodating as possible, but the Post Office cannot remain open 24/7. 08.01.2022 UPDATE - ZEBRA CROSSING Dear Geurie, We just wanted to give you an update on what is happening with the surprise upgrade to the zebra crossing in town. ... THE SITUATION Yesterday, 31st May 2018, we received advice and information that work would be commenced in the near future (mid-June) to upgrade the pedestrian crossing on the highway. The plans were delivered to the shop for public viewing. At no point has anyone in the Geurie community been consulted about the proposed changes. While the crossing most certainly needs safety work as a matter of urgency, there are multiple significant issues with the plan all stemming from the complete absence of community consultation. They include (but are not limited to): 1. The removal of the zebra crossing does not meet the needs of the local community. The number of pedestrian’s crossing the highway is high and includes children. RMS have failed to appreciate the split nature of our village and were unaware that the school often takes children on walking excursion across the highway. 2. Relocation and expansion of the pedestrian island mean that there is the potential that Australia Post may not always be able to make postal deliveries to the Geurie Post Office. Unless a postal truck can park within a specific distance from a post office they are unable to make delivery. This is a legislative issue and one that RMS have failed to take into consideration. WHERE WE ARE UP TO Over the last 24 hours we have been in communication with the local and federal ministers, Dubbo Regional Council, Australia Post and the Western Region RMS office. Dubbo Regional Council and Australia Post were not aware of the project and had not been consulted. The manager at the Western Region RMS office has confirmed verbally that the plans cannot go ahead until certain issues are resolved. This is a big step forward. WHAT NOW As a community we need to take the initiative in a positive way. RMS will be holding an information session at Geurie General Store on Monday 4th June 2018 12.00pm to 4.00pm. Although this is an inconvenient time we encourage everyone who is available to attend. We will create a Facebook event but please also share with all our non-Facebook residents. Australia Post will be sending a representative to the session as well. To this meeting please bring your ideas of what the community DOES NEED from the crossing upgrade. If you are unable to attend the session, please write down your suggestions and concerns and drop them into the Post Office. Rachel will share them at the meeting on your behalf. This is an important issue for the entire Geurie community. Please get behind this and get involved.
