11.01.2022 What a fortnight for our organisation! Over the last two weeks we competed at the Brisbane Boys College and MacLean Highland Gatherings. Notably, our Greater ...Ipswich College of Piping and Drumming achieved 3rd prize both weekends. What an achievement for their first outings. The Grade 4B band performed well at BBC. The Grade 4A band achieved 3rd each weekend and in Grade 3 as well. We had a number of musicians playing their first time in competition and also some new faces in the ranks. We are very proud of all our members for their efforts over the last two weeks. See you all at our own 'The Gathering' where we hope to continue our achievements.

08.01.2022 The City of Ipswich Pipe Band is pleased to announce the election of Mr Robbie Graham as president at a special general meeting held yesterday following the rec...ent resignation of Mr Rod Smith as president and pipe sergeant. A native of Wigtown in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, Robbie is the territory manager for an international agricultural spray company and brings with him to the role a great love for piping and drumming, a wealth of commercial and business experience, and outstanding leadership. With both his wife and children playing members of the band, Robbie has been a great supporter of the band and its entities including the Greater Ipswich College of Piping and Drumming and The Gathering. The management committee look forward to Robbie’s stewardship and working with Pipe Major Nick Tomkins to grow and promote the organisation as an enjoyable and successful pipe band. The band thanks Rod Smith for many years of service and his ongoing association with the Band as College tutor. We wish him well for his future endeavours.

03.01.2022 A good habit to embrace, even for students and their lesson time.

03.01.2022 We find that it’s so important to teach understanding, to help the student drive their own growth and development. One key part of this in our piping program is teaching students to tune their own drones from very early on - helping to develop their ability to understand sound and tone.

02.01.2022 Our first college student, Euan Graham, performed with such poise and humility on Sunday at the Vietnam Veteran's Service at Ipswich RSL Sub Branch. It is indeed a remarkable achievement for such a young man. We are so very proud of you Euan. Euan is pictured with Keith Payne VC & AM, guest of honour and speaker at the service. 02.01.2022 Over the weekend our kids competed in their first ever Queensland Pipe Band Championship with a great performance in Novice Juvenile grade. What was so special was to see them all dressed in kilts!! We want to send a special thank you to all those who generously donated to our Kids in Kilt go fund me (https://www.gofundme.com/kids-in-kilts). You support helped quickly get our kids looking amazing. Thanks also to Doug and Karen at St Kilda Retail Australia for getting the kilts turned around so quickly and to the highest quality! We have taken the second step in our long journey on the road to success. We have many more kids coming through the learner ranks and are keen to hear from more kids interested to learn. Our learn to pipe and drum sessions at The Gathering were a huge success. Be sure to contact us for more info.

These videos are intended primarily for our pipers and drummers at the City of Ipswich Pipe Band and the Greater Ipswich College of Piping and Drumming, however by publishing them to YouTube and Facebook we hope that others can make use of them. We are all about learning and discussion, so please feel free to comment with questions, or comments and alternative opinions.
