25.01.2022 INFINITE WISDOM became the latest winner from our inaugural Magic Millions draft of 2019. Having his 1st race start, Infinite Wisdom dominated from the front, easing down well before the wire to win on the Kranji (Singapore) lawn track today. Infinite Wisdom was a $70k purchase by trainer Stephen Gray. He is by our former champion 3yo, All Too Hard from Sencircles. Infinite Wisdom is the 2nd, Gilgai bred produce of Sencires, the 1st being multiple Sydney metro winner, Threeood. Congratulations to connections and we look forward to following this obviously highly talented galloper in the future

25.01.2022 SOORENA is the single mare closed to Ricks heart. Having raced her mother, bred and raced her and now bred 9 foals from her she has become a foundation mare for Gilgai Farm. The dam of 5 Stakes performers already, her progeny have performed at 1200m, Group 1’s (The Quarterback winner of the VRC The Newmarket) to 2400m Gr1’s (Philippi, runner up to Dundeel ATC Derby). This weekend sees her latest 2 sons to run. Incidentally SOORENA first 8 foals were colts and has now produce...d 1 filly. OCTANE, the 1st I am Invincible son of SOORENA is the most expensive yearling sold at Inglis Melbourne Premier. Runs tomorrow at Flemington as favourite in the BM 90, 1000m. We hope his winning form can continue and he can go on to soon become SOORENAs 6th Stakes horse. BORN A WARRIOR ran 3rd in The Silver Slipper and 2nd in The Pago Pago at his first 2 starts. He is the last colt born to SOORENA. Also by I am Invincible he was a $1.4mill Inglis Easter purchase for trainer John Hawkes. As with all his 7 brothers, BORN A WARRIOR needed to be gelded after disappointing as a colt. He returns on Sunday to run as a gelded favourite in the 1000m Bendigo maiden. Another foundation mare for our relatively young farm is HELSINGE, the dam of our former champions Black Caviar and All Too Hard. HELSINGE left us a few years ago now, but she has 2 daughters here living her legacy. NATURALE is the 1st to produce for us and that 1st foal, OLE KIRK runs as top weight in the ATC The Rosebud tomorrow at Rosehill. Already a Stakes winner and Group 1 placed colt he is on a Golden Rose path. He needs to give 5kg to the pre-post favourite Anders so a good closing finish will see him on track for the Golden Rose at level weights. TOKEN SPIRIT is a colt from our Gr1 Queensland Oaks winner, Miss Keepsake by Wandjina. He was a $300k Magic Millions purchase for his trainer Robbie Griffiths. Showing good endurance capabilities, including incredibly low lactate levels after gallops, he’s on a VRC Derby trail. He is down to run in the 1800m 3yo at Flemington tomorrow but is in doubt due to his detest for soft ground. We wish all connections well and hope it’s another big weekend for the GILGAI Farm bred runners

24.01.2022 When Ed O’Rourke worked for Gai Waterhouse his reputation proceeded him as an outstanding horseman, so when his name appeared as the new trainer for noted villain, MANAGUA it seemed like a match made in heaven. Having just his 3rd start today. Ed, Managua’s 3rd trainer no less laid him down and backed him as though unbeatable. Jumping at $1.60 he bumbled the start but it did not matter as he circled the field and ran away. Managua was purchased by Julian Blaxlands Blue Sky Bloodsock from our 2018 Inglis Melbourne Premier draft. Congratulations to connections and we look forward to seeing what’s next for this former head strong pest

23.01.2022 Today 2 Gilgai Farm bred fillies kicked off their winning careers taking out their maidens by a combined 13 Lengths SODBUSTER won at Kilmore by 8L for Leon and Troy Corstens and GROOVY KINDA LOVE won at Pakenham by 5L for Mick Kent. Congratulations to both sets of connections This weekend sees Gilgai Farm breds run: ANTIFRAGILE (pictured) having 1st start, Rc2 Cranbourne, Friday ALMADRAVA Rc7 Cranbourne, Friday ... GRANDSLAM Gr2, Rc5 Moonee Valley, Saturday TOKEN SPIRIT Rc7 Moonee Valley, Saturday See more

22.01.2022 The 2020 season has kicked off for us. Most of our best mares need to be covered by the best stallions, which obviously stand in the Hunter Valley. We are most fortunate that the glorious Cressfield Stud boards these mares for us each year and as such most of the best horses we breed are born there. At Cressfield this week we saw the arrival of the 1st, 2 babies for the season.... On the 1st, came a colt by Invader from the maiden mare MISS MAGDA. A mare Rick purchased specifically to use with our share in Invader at Aquis Farm. On the 3rd came another colt and the 3rd foal for HOLY COW. Holy Cow was a high class filly that was always dogged by feet problems, bought for us by Dermot Farrington and trained by Mick Kent. This foal is by Written By, whom she returns to this season at Widden Stud. See more

22.01.2022 TOKEN SPIRIT, a colt that Robbie Griffiths holds in high regards broke through at his 2nd career start today, beating the older horses at Benella. Robbie has long held the opinion that Token Spirit has the makings of a Victorian Derby horse. Jumping from 1200m to 2000m between his 1st and 2nd start he certainly showed a glimpse of the stamina traits Robbie has been seeing in his training. Token Spirit is the 3rd foal of Queensland Oaks winner Miss Keepsake. The 2nd being the mare Collectable that Robbie also trains who ran in the VRC Oaks last year. The 1st foal had his 1st start recently in Ireland in a 2&1/2 mile bumper. Token Spirit was yet another winning purchase from our inaugural Magic Million Yearling draft in 2019. We wish his other connections all the best with this Derby bound colt.

18.01.2022 GRANDSLAM won the Gr2 Alister Clark on the way to the ATC Derby today. A great training performance from Ciaron and David and well ridden by Jamie Kah. We sold Grandslam in our 1st ever Magic Millions draft for $600,000. Congratulations to his connections. TOKEN SPIRIT a stayer resuming made a pleasing comeback on an unsuitable wet track at Moonee Valley. He heads to Bendigo next to run in the heats of the Galilee series. ANTIFRAGILE made a decent debut at Cranbourne and show...ed enough to suggest that she will win a race on her day ALMADRAVA ran her last race and is now retired. She is likely to be bred to our dual Gr1 winning colt, Ole Kirk this coming Spring. We wish to thank Phillip Stokes for his great handling of her during her racing career

17.01.2022 OCTANE won his 6th from 7 for Phillip Stokes at Flemington today. Given time to settle worse than mid field by Jamie Kah, she edged him to the outside and then blew the BM 90 field away. The Gr2 Bobby Lewis at Flemington looks the next likely target for OCTANE and then on to the Gilgai also at Flemington. Amazing training performance from Phillip Stokes after receiving the horse as a cast off that struggled to keep up in a Class 1 at Wangaratta. OLE KIRK ran a pleasing 2nd in the Rosebud at Rosehill over an unsuitable distance conceding the winner 5kg. The Golden Rose onto the Caulfield Guineas in October are his ultimate goals.

16.01.2022 MASKED CRUSADER gave us another Group 1 Winner off the farm this evening, winning the William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley. Masked Crusader was the first foal born of She’s Got Gears from a Rick mating. He was born at Cressfield and reared here at Gilgai. We sent him to the 2018 Inglis Melbourne Premier sale where he was purchased by his trainers, Hawkes racing and Cameron Cooke who was acting agent for Rupert Legh. Congratulations to his connections

16.01.2022 More foalings during the week has us now 1/2 through our total batch due. When Cable Bay was signed up as our 1st foray into the stallion market, one of the main targets for mares, Rick sought were granddaughters of Danehill Dancer. VERY CHOOSY was sourced from a Melbourne mixed sale specifically to be mated with Cable Bay. Her 1st Cable Bay is up with Gai and Adrian at Randwick, named I Like Big Putts she looks likely to be out before Xmas. VERY CHOOSY delivered her 3rd Cabl...e Bay filly on the 21st and will indeed visit him again this season. GOLDSMOBILE the dam of Gr1 winner Bon Aurum delivered us a Russian Revolution filly at Cressfield on the 22nd. She returns to Russian Revolution again this season. Group 3 winner NAUTICAL delivered her best foal to date. A colt by Divine Prophet born at Swettenham on the 22nd. NAUTICAL visits Manhattan Rain this season. LA PASSE who proved one of the best mares in Melbourne during the spring of 2015, winning 2 Gr2’s, the Rose of Kingston Stakes at Flemington and the Tristarc Stakes at Caulfield bore us her 2nd Cable Bay filly on the 23rd at Swettenham Stud. LA PASSE returns to Cable Bay again in 2020. VELLOR a mare by Sepoy who Rick has a high opinion of making the grade as a broodmare sire delivered an Exceed and Excel colt on the 25th and visits Cable Bay this season. JUNGLE FISH one of the maddest fillies to look through a bridle, who has only ever been loved by 2 people. Her ex trainer Mick Kent and his son Jr who rode her in most of her track work and trials, gave us her 1st produce on the 25th. A filly by Cable Bay at Swettenham. She returns to Cable Bay in 2020.

14.01.2022 3 Gilgai Farm bred runners go around tomorrow Dundeels best female to date, THE CLOSER runs in the 1000m at Caulfield to open up her spring campaign. She was a $70k purchase for trainer Ciaron Maher and managing part owner Wes Ballantine at the 2017 Inglis Melbourne Premier sale Although he has battled feet issues, the talented, MASKED CRUSADER runs at Randwick tomorrow in the BM88 1100m. He was a $340k purchase for trainers Hawkes racing and agent Cameron Cooke acting for m...anaging owner, Rupert Legh at the 2018 Inglis Melbourne Premier sale After being knocked over in the Hugh Bowman - Hot ‘N’ Hazy incident, OCSAR ZULU lines up in the Group 3 Up and Coming Stakes at Randwick. He was a $130k Magic Millions January purchase for owners Viv Oldfields G&C Pastoral We wish all connections the best of luck

12.01.2022 Real Charisma looks another top liner for Bob Peter’s the way she broke her maiden at Ascot(Perth) on Wednesday. Backed as though unbeatable she careered away to a 3&1/2 length win. A daughter of our VRC place getter Summerbliss, the 1200m winning distance is probably 1/2 of what her future best distance will be. She was purchased from our 2019 Inglis Melbourne Premier draft by leading agent, Damon Gabbedy This weekend’s Gilgai bred runners: Born a Warrior Rc4, Canterbury Fr...iday Kiptanui Rc 7 Moonee Valley Friday Ole Kirk, Gr1 Australian Guineas, Flemington Grandslam, Gr1 Australian Guineas, Flemington Best of luck to all connections

12.01.2022 3 Gilgai Farm runners are down to run this Saturday OSCAR ZULU a $130k Magic Million purchase for Viv Oldfield’s G&C Pastoral, aims to make it 2 from 2 at Rosehill in the 2yo BURLEIGH BOY a $80k Magic Million purchase by trainer Dan O’Brien looks to kick off his win column at Caulfield in the VOBIS 2yo... OCTANE the bookies nightmare has again seen huge support being backed into Odds On for the BM 82, 1100m at Morphettville. He looks to make it 5 from 6 and take his prize money towards $200k since joining the Phillip Stokes stable, mid 2019 as a private HIT purchase. It was good to see OCTANE’s full brother back at the Flemington jump outs this morning. BORN A WARRIOR (pictured) returns as a gelding having disappointed during the spring, following his 2, 2yo starts, placing in both the Silver Slipper and the Pago Pago. We wish all connections the best of luck

12.01.2022 4 more foals to report: Group 1 winner, MIRJULISA LASS foaled a filly at Cressfield on the 8th by Russian Revolution, MIRJ visits the freshman Brutal in 2020 Also at Cressfield, Stakes winner, OCEAN JEWEL foaled a colt on the 11th. She visits I Am Invincible this season... Many thanks to Jason Robinson and his team at Swettenham for the safe arrival of a brace of Cable Bay fillies this week. The Group placed, HARDLY SURPRISING, a mare Rick raced, delivered hers on the 9th and KOZAKOV delivered hers on the 11th. KOZAKOV is an interesting mare. She was bought specifically to be mated with Cable Bay. She only has one eye and no teeth on one side of her mouth stemming from a horrific injury sustained when she was a foal at Darley. She lives a normal life though with her group of mates. Both of these 2 mares return to Cable Bay this season

09.01.2022 CAPTIVATOR always a gorgeous horse, a $250,000 purchase for China Horse Club from our Melbourne Premier draft. Originally trained in Melbourne he struggled to find his mark and was later sold as an 8 start maiden on an Inglis online sale for $47,500 to former Gold Coast vet Greg Booth. What a great ride he’s been for Greg since his purchase. Captivator gave him his first win as a trainer at Eagle Farm in November and today won his 5th race and took his earnings to $175,000. Congratulations once more to Greg, hopefully we can get back up to the Gold Coast in January to hear his latest tales of his beloved Captivator

09.01.2022 Thanks to the keen eyes of Su-Ann Khaw who alerted us to a good Gilgai Farm bred winner in Japan today. PRECIOUS GIRL (Speightstown ex Pressurizing) is a filly we bred from one of the 2, 1/2 sisters to Zenyatta that we owned in Kentucky. PRECIOUS GIRL (shown here less than an hour old at Machmer Hall) was sold at the 2017 Fasig-Tipton November sale for $375k to leading European agent Hugo Merry

08.01.2022 Trainer Joe Pride is certainly getting a great tune out of a filly we bred and raced THREOOD. Winning her 4th start for the Tri-Colours team at Warwick Farm today, she has also placed 4 times and won $150k in prize money from her 10 starts this prep for Joe. She was a $46k online purchase for James Moss of Tri-Colours when we sold her as a 10 start maiden

05.01.2022 With less than a dozen Gilgai Farm bred stock in training in NSW, it is unusual that 4 would appear on Sydney tracks this weekend. All are currently rated as either favourite or 2nd favourite. Canterbury Friday Born a Warrior race 7 Rosehill Saturday Oscar Zulu race 5... Ole Kirk race 7 Masked Crusader race 9 We wish all connections the best of luck! See more

02.01.2022 More babies have arrived during the week: 2 of Rick’s pals, Rupert Legh and Colin McKenna keep a mare or 2 with us. Ruperts, DANCING BRAVE BEAR a gorgeous imported stakes performed Street Cry mare produced a colt to the English sire sensation Kingman on the 17th at Cressfield. Dancing Brave Bear visits Dundeel this season ... Colin who also owns Jameka, had his other top class mare, GIRL GUIDE produce a Cable Bay filly on the 17th at Cressfield. She visits Territories this season. CAFE SCIENTIFIC a mare with a big pedigree but has so far disappointed with the types she has thrown did a great job this year, producing a strong Impending filly at Cressfield, again on the 17th. She visits Rubick this season AMANIKAN the only produce from one of our best race mares, My Emotion had a drama filled start to motherhood. Her 1st foal, a massive Invader filly was delivered not breathing at Cressfield on the 17th. Thank god for the experience of the Cressfield team who managed to revive her and get her into Clovelley hospital, where she has been in intensive care since. We’re glad to report that she has turned the corner and mare and foal will return to Cressfield in the next few days. Amanikan returns to Invader this year. We’re always so appreciative that Wayne and Liesl let us keep our best mares with them every year and the Amanikan story is another example of why. In Nagambie, GOOD OH who is the most expensive yearling by Duporth to sell was a talented racehorse winning her 1st start in town but way too mad to reach any decent level delivered a Cable Bay filly at Swettenham Stud on the 18th. She goes back to Cable Bay again. HERA a multiple Group 2 winner by O’Reily had a big strong colt by Starspangledbanner born at GIlgai on the 19th. Hera returns to Starspangledbanner in 2020

02.01.2022 OCTANE looked set to continue his racing career in Korea after performing poorly in his first 6 starts, that was until former part owner, Ken McDonald decided to match the $40,000 Korean offer and race him on his own. Sent to the Phillip Stokes Adelaide yard he’s proved a revaluation. Today he won his 5th race from 6 starts and nearly $200,000 since joining Stokes. Reports of him being the fastest horse ever clocked at Morphettville in the mornings has him now aiming up at the early Melbourne spring riches. Although Matt Stewart reported on Melbourne radio during the week that OCTANEs ultimate target may come next February in the Gr1 Oakleigh Plate. Which ever race OCTANE contests he’s sure to make his presence felt.
