25.01.2022 #pizza night problem solved... What do you try when you're looking for a pizza that's #grainfree? ... #paleo pizza - which is mainly #almondmeal, but then you find it too heavy and discover the awful omega 3:6 ratio of almond products... #fathead pizza - which is mainly #cheese and #cream cheese, but then you discover it's way beyond your tolerance for #dairy...... #cauliflowerrice pizza, which is tasty but sooooo fiddly to cook and our kitchen looks like a cauliflower exploded in it... ... finally I discovered using a #keto #waffle is my pizza MAGIC - based on #eggs #butter and #coconut flour. Every life input is an experiment, if we want different #outcomes we need to change our inputs. This Christmas, we in #Melbourne benefit from the pay-off for all those weeks of lockdown by being able to share it with #family and #friends Dr BBQ was very happy with his gift of the fabulously well designed Cut & Carve (by Joseph Joseph), now we can use all that wonderful jus de boeuf, r...ather than have it run all over the counter top. Youngster helped Granny (my Mum) make ice-cream, which has evolved from a frozen "Christmas cake" (for those of us in the southern hemisphere who celebrate a summery Christmas) and now has choc-chips instead of booze and dried fruit because the kids all prefer it that way!

23.01.2022 Accountability time for #SugarFreeMe with @starlightau and @thatsugarmovement Has it been 30 days perfectly #sugarfree? Well, there were 2 family dinners - it was pretty special to share a post-lockdown meal together. Youngster spontaneously decided to cook #applecrumble on one occasion and #mugcake on the other, I had a very small serving of each. In total I would have consumed less than 6 teaspoons of sugar, which is the daily allowance for added sugars for adults. The othe...r 28 days were great: - completely avoided sugar and natural sweeteners (honey, syrups, sweetened drinks, fruit juice, dried fruit and dates, foods with added sugar, desserts, etc) - minimised artificial sweeteners - finally gave up #stevia in my tea - skipped the beloved 90% chocolate - avoided #hotchocolate at cafes (often there's more sugar than cacao) - took care with condiments; sugar loves to hide in sauces, especially BBQ sauce - didn't indulge in lots of extra fruit, fortunately berries (which are low in natural sugars) are in season I'll certainly keep this up until Christmas! 18.01.2022 Back in the #pool for 6 weeks since #Melbourne has come out of lockdown but absolutely crushed training today, #swimming 25% further in the same time, an increase from 1.6km (1 mile) up to 2km (and no, the local outdoor pool doesn't have this much nature in it). After catching up with #family and #friends, swimming was one of the things I missed most during those long weeks living in our 5km bubble. Interestingly, my motivation for swimming isn't for the #cardio (though I certainly achieve that by doing butterfly every 6th length), it's more important for keeping my shoulders and upper back limber and for breath control.
