25.01.2022 It is with a very heavy heart that on behalf of the #victorianseafood community we say thank you to our 10 remaining Gippsland Lakes fishers. Today is their las...t day of providing fresh, local and extremely healthy seafood for all Victorians. 4th, 5th and 6th generational fishers who have been forcefully removed from their livelihoods. Such a sombre moment to farewell some amazing characters who in the face of all adversity have held their heads high, and represented themselves respectfully at all times. So lets raise your glass, can, or whatever and celebrate the amazing fishers, their employees and families of the Gippsland Lake. Gone, but never forgotten. Thank you to you all, from Seafood Industry Victoria and all of Victoria's seafood consumers.
20.01.2022 Dear farmers, donators, volunteers and supporters of GFR. I am sad to announce that I am moving on from Gippsland Farmer Relief Inc. as the Founder and Chief Executive Officer. Having founded this organisation as a direct response to the milk crisis in June 2016 up to now has been a life changing experience. It is understandably very close to my heart. Aiding people through the milk crisis, drought and most recently two major back to back crises of Bushfire and Covid-19.... I have met many amazing people in my role and have had the unique opportunity to uplift the lives of many. It has truly been an honour and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart Thank you to all of those people who have supported me and my amazing second family's (my volunteers) efforts. Hang in there farming community, you truly are valued by many and deserve bright futures and huge recognition in our beautiful country. Kindest Regards Melissa Ferguson
12.01.2022 BREAKING--the National Cabinet has responded to the Transport Industries calls and ruled that truck stop Drivers Rooms can stay open with social distancing and ...hygiene in place. This is a massive relief for the many drivers who are traversing our transport corridors to ensure the freight gets through. We have been advised that there will be some fine tuning and an official announcement will be made tomorrow or Wednesday outlining the finer details and strict guidelines. On behalf of all the truck drivers , we would like to thank the Government for listening and making this important change. #NHVR #trucking #keepingthemsafe #roadhouses #mentalhealthawareness #ozhelp
08.01.2022 The first 50 hampers for May were packed last Thursday and our first deliveries will be to fire-affected farming families in East Gippsland. GFR Inc. is seeking referrals from any concerned community or family members if they feel a farming family in their area is in need of food hampers - all referrals are accepted in strict confidentiality - no details of referrers or receivers are disclosed to any organisation or to any person outside of GFR Inc’s Intake Officer.
07.01.2022 Gotta love a farmer with a sense of humour
06.01.2022 As it has been for many in our Communities, Covid-19 and the resulting social distancing rules put in place by the Victorian Government has caused disruption to GFR Inc’s work. However, we are still operating from our Stratton Drive warehouse. See website for full details. http://www.gippslandfarmerrelief.com.au/
04.01.2022 Despite having to shut her pub due to #COVID19, Megan Braid still visits everyday to care for dozens of wild kangaroos It’s not uncommon to see roos jumping through the bar at the John Forrest Wildflower Tavern One of the big boomers even has a Tinder page!
03.01.2022 Fact: The number one killer of Corona Virus in the world right now? Cows. Soap is the single most effective defence against viruses like this and has been sin...ce Roman times, even better than hand sanitiser. Soap is made from tallow (or beef fat), a by product of that awesome beef you eat. Cows are at the front line protecting our doctors and nurses and right now cows are saving millions and millions of people around the world! It's not just soap, cattle are at the forefront of many life saving pharmaceutical treatments like stem cells and the surfactants that save our premature babies. So, in a really strange time, while we are realising that beef is a really important, nutrition dense food to have in our freezer, in a time when we can clearly see that real pollution comes from cars and planes rather than cows, let's all celebrate COWS! After all they've received a bit of an unfair bashing for a while. The bonus score goes to Australian cows, who have long demonstrated that social distancing works to keep you healthy. At an average of one cow to 76 acres, Australian cows have the best social distancing in the world. #atruestory See more
