22.01.2022 The next two butterflies in this Swallowtail series can be found throughout SEQ. The Blue Triangle is quite common and easily recognisable. It has the most amou...nt of bright blue of any butterfly in SEQ. Its larvae can feed on a wide range of plants including Camphor Laurels and native Cryptocaryas. Whereas the Pale Triangle is uncommon and can be found around dry vine thickets and suburban gardens where its host plants are found. Keep a close eye for these butterflies as sometimes the Blue Triangles can be pale blue, and the Pale Triangle can have a blueish tinge! Photos by Deborah Metters. See more

18.01.2022 For 25 years the School of Biological Sciences at The University of Queensland took final year Ecology students 18h west to Idalia National Park to learn about ...outback ecology. COVID meant students had to learn all the same skills in their suburban backyards. The only thing that couldn't be replaced was a core element of the course - a chance to be out in the bush, chatting about conservation around a fire under the stars. That's where QTFN stepped in. Outback ecology students spent their weekend at Aroona instead. The UQ students and staff have analyzed their results and found evidence of potentially seven different microbat species on Aroona. These include the Little Bent-wing Bat (Miniopterus australis), the Large Forest Bat (Vespadelus darlington) which roosts in hollows of old Eucalypt trees (both pictured), and the only species whose sounds can be heard by human ears, the larger Tadarida australis.
