23.01.2022 After four days in thirteen degree water and thousands of sea urchins succumbed to the urchin management program, we are finally beginning to see the results of our efforts. I cant wait to see our beautiful marine sanctuary regenerate and provide abundance for the myriad of creatures calling Beware Reef their home. Although quite challenging, this has been some of the most rewarding diving of my career so far! #conservation #sustainability #visitgippsland #loveeastgippsland #lovegippsland #divegippsland #marlo #mallacoota #nationalpark https://www.instagram.com/hollybaird79/

20.01.2022 The Boating section of this website focuses on assisting waterway users to enjoy the various waterways of Gippsland, regardless of whether managed by Gippsland Ports or another agency. 19.01.2022 The Gippsland Lakes Marine Champions had a great day sampling the shoreline around the Cunningham Arm Jetty in Lakes Entrance on Friday. They were looking for s...igns of microplastic using the AUSMAP sampling methodology. We found pieces of polystyrene foam, hard plastic fragments and off-cuts of discarded marine rope, among other micro and macroplastics. While this was just a practice run, the Marine Champions were amazed at the amount of microplastic we found, despite there being no sign of plastic fragments on the surface of the sand. We can’t wait to get our hands on some AUSMAP-certified equipment so we can send our findings off to the lab. Do you know a young person that is passionate about marine science and environmental stewardship? Check out our Marine Champions youth program on our website! #youthinscience #youthforscience #youthinaction #youthforchange #microplastic #ausmap #citizenscience #marinescience #microplasticsurvey #marinechampions

02.01.2022 We need your help! Can you tag friends and family who live in Tweeds Head? A Pelican banded right here in Gippsland Lakes and wearing our uniquely coloured red and white leg band (see photo for example) has been seen in Tweed Heads recently. The problem is...we don't know the number. Just which Gippsland Lakes pelican has made the 1500km flight to Tweed Heads, did it stop in to see the Hemsworths on the way? We may never know that, but if we can find out the unique number on ...the pelican's leg band, we'll find out exactly which pelican has made the journey. If you know anyone in the area please ask them to keep an eye out and record the number! **Please note, this photo is not the pelican spotted in Tweed Heads, we're just using this one as an example of what the red band looks like** Send a message to https://www.instagram.com/loveourgippslandlakes/ if you can help!
