25.01.2022 Are you part of a community group in Moe or surrounding areas? We’re looking for your ideas on how a $5,000 community donation or event in your town might be best spent! Earlier this year, the townships of Hernes Oak, Moe, Moe South, Newborough, Trafalgar East, Westbury, Yallourn, Yallourn Heights, and Yallourn North were affected by a precautionary boil water event caused by storm damage to our Moe water treatment plant.... We promised to donate $5,000 towards a local community project or event in one of the affected towns for the inconvenience caused, and we’re keeping our word. If you’re part of a community group in one of the above towns and you have an idea for a project or initiative, let us know by Friday 27 November www.gippswater.com.au/community-donation-application-form Once we receive responses, we’ll be asking customers in the affected area for their feedback to help us decide which community group receives the donation. For more information, visit www.gippswater.com.au/community-donation

23.01.2022 It’s NAIDOC Week 2020. This year’s theme: ‘Always was, Always will be’ is about inviting Australians to embrace the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. It’s about seeing, hearing and learning the First Nations’ 65,000+ year history of this country - which is Australian history. ... Here, we recognise First Nations people's connection to country and are proud that Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC) partner with us. We work in collaboration to ensure we understand and celebrate Gippsland’s long history and rich cultural heritage. We are continually learning from our Traditional Owner partners. #NAIDOCweek #NAIDOC2020

20.01.2022 What a view! Not only do drones take great photos (of our Moe water treatment plant and Drouin wastewater treatment plant, which is currently under construction), they are also making it easier and safer for us to do our job. We can use drones to reach infrastructure that can be hard to access, like water towers, allowing our operators to inspect them from the safety of the ground. You can read more about how we're using drones here: www.gippswater.com.au//drones-help-gippsland-water-save-mo

20.01.2022 They mightn’t look like much yet, but these babies (native shrubs and grasses) at Blue Rock Lake have a big role to play. As the more than 3000 plants grow, they will catch rubbish, road grease and other pollutants that would have washed into the lake. People in Moe, Newborough, Willow Grove, Yallourn North, Yarragon and Trafalgar get their water from Blue Rock Lake - so it’s important we keep it in tip top shape.... A big thanks to our partners Southern Rural Water, West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority and Tanjil Landcare. Read more: www.gippswater.com.au//water-groups-partner-protect-catchm

19.01.2022 We’re always planning projects to upgrade and strengthen our water and wastewater networks. Part of the planning process is to work with Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC) to ensure that the cultural heritage on the land we work is acknowledged and protected. We work with GLaWAC and Bunurong Traditional owner groups to develop cultural heritage management plans. This involves cultural heritage surveys, where areas of cultural significance are identi...fied and works managed to ensure Aboriginal artefacts and places are not damaged. ** taken pre current coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions. #NAIDOCweek #NAIDOC2020

18.01.2022 A plumber called us from a home in Moe last week, where he had pulled this blockage of wipes from the owner's pipes. Wipes can cause blockages just like this one in your pipes and in ours, so please throw wipes in the bin and only flush toilet paper. #StopItDontBlockIt

16.01.2022 Did you know? Washing dishes in a sink uses up to five times more water than a full load in a water efficient dishwasher. #WaterSavingTip

13.01.2022 The dunny, the loo, the john, the throne... whatever you like to call it, the toilet is what we're celebrating today, on World Toilet Day. Why? Because 4.2 billion people around the world don't have access to safely managed sanitation. This UN day is about raising awareness and taking action to correct this. Poor sanitation can spread disease, while inadequate wastewater treatment can harm the environment. Here, 7 year old Eriam Sheikh comes out after using the toilet on st...ilts or floating toilet built over a drain passing by Rafiq Nagar in Mumbai. 03.01.2022 We're proud to have innovative thinkers like our Water Quality Technical Officer Toby Spark in our team. Toby's bright idea to install an auto-flushing device at Yinnar South helps us save time while continuing to provide customers with top notch water quality. The idea was so good, he was a finalist in the Intelligent Water Network Hydrovation Challenge - Eastern Region. ... You can watch Toby's submission here https://youtu.be/s-pxhPuCULg Well done to Toby for getting so far, and a huge congratulations to Meg from Westernport Water who won the challenge! ** taken pre current coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions.

03.01.2022 We're reducing the amount of waste going into landfill by recycling the biosolids produced at our wastewater treatment plants along with other food, milk, green and industrial waste. Each year, our organics and recycling facility at Dutson Downs recycles more than 200,000 tonnes of waste each year into valuable, nutrient-rich composts that are then used by farms and other horticultural enterprises right across the state.

03.01.2022 Part of our environment team’s job is to monitor and protect the native and threatened species of plants and animals on our properties. Last week, the team visited one of the pine plantations at Dutson Downs, where pine trees are soon being harvested, to locate two specific plant species. The crew were out in the field mapping Dwarf Kerrawang (top) and Trailing Hop-Bush plants (bottom) within the project area, to ensure they are managed and avoided when the harvesting commences.

03.01.2022 Who knew we could be harnessing the power of poo? New research has found that it's possible to get at least five times as much energy out of sewage than we do at the moment. Read more about this research and other Australian Museum Eureka Award winning ideas https://www.abc.net.au/news/science/2020-11-24/eureka-prizes-reward-australian-scientists-for-research/12915790

02.01.2022 Did you know driving your car through a car wash uses less water than washing it at home? That's because car washes use water-efficient systems and some even recycle the run-off for future washes. #WaterSavingTip
