22.01.2022 photograph by Oliver Miller Festival Director and Violinist - Skye McIntosh Australian born Skye McIntosh is Artistic director of the Australian Haydn Ensemble and also performs violin regularly with The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Pinchgut Opera, Salut! Baroque and has performed many other festivals around Australia.... She has a wide range of experience with historical performance having worked with many distinguished baroque/classical specialist performers such as Catherine Mackintosh, Stefano Montinari, Neal Peres De Costa, Danny Yeadon, Elizabeth Wallfisch, Monica Huggett, Richard Egarr, Catherine Mackintosh and Lawrence Cummings. Skye has also performed widely throughout Australia, the United Kingdom and Europe as a modern violinist. She has been guest director and soloist with the Sydney Youth Orchestra, appeared as principal second of Ruthless Jabiru chamber orchestra in the 2011 City of London festival and as leader of Handel’s Messiah at the Sydney Town hall with the Radio Community Chest Choir orchestra. She has frequently appeared as leader and soloist of the Sydney Conservatorium Early Music Ensemble, also wining the Conservatorium’s concerto prize.

19.01.2022 Festival Artist Feature - Flautist Melissa Doecke Melissa Doecke is one of Australia's most exciting flautists, with a busy career of concerto performances, solo recitals and chamber music concerts. Melissa regularly performs with Australian symphony orchestras including as Guest Principal Flute with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra Victoria.... A section Finalist in the 2010 Australian Young Performer Awards Melissa gave the Australian premiere of Christian Lindberg's Flute Concerto as soloist with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. Melissa studied in Australia at the University of Queensland and the Canberra School of Music as well as on scholarship at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London. She has performed in London at the BBC Proms in Royal Albert Hall, at St Martin-in-the-Fields and the Purcell Room at London's Southbank, as well as in recordings for BBC Radio 3 and BBC Television. Melissa has also given recitals in Italy, Prague, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Brazil, across the UK and Australia, and performed at music festivals worldwide. Melissa is passionate about performing and promoting new music and new Australian music in particular. Melissa has recently returned to Australia after 5 years in the UK and is currently based in Melbourne.

09.01.2022 Festival Artist - JENNY ERIKSSON, The Marais Project Jennifer Eriksson completed her initial musical studies at the NSW State Conservatorium of Music studying music education and cello with Barbara Woolley. Her first viola da gamba lessons were undertaken with Catherine Finnis in Sydney. She subsequently studied the viola da gamba with Jaap ter Linden at the Rotterdam Conservatorium for three years where she completed post-graduate studies in baroque music. She founded The Ma...rais Project in 2000 and also directs the Musica Viva in Schools ensemble, Sounds Baroque as well as being a founding member of the viol consort, Seaven Teares. Since returning to Australia in 1988 Jennifer has performed with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Victorian State Opera Orchestra, Salút Baroque, Opera Australia, the Renaissance Players, The Early Dance Consort, The Sydney Consort, Sydney Chamber Choir, The Parsons Affayre and numerous other ensembles. In 2000 she founded The Marais Project with the aim of performing the complete works of the French baroque viola da gamba virtuoso, Marin Marais. As well as presenting an annual concert series, The Marais Project has performed live on the ABC’s Sunday Live broadcasts, Radio National’s The Music Show and recorded several studio concerts for ABC Fine Music. The ensemble released its first CD, Viol Dreaming, in October 2007. Her second CD Love Reconciled came out in 2010 to critical acclaim. In 2012 The Marais Project and Mara! Released a joint CD, Mara! meets Marais. 2013 sees the release of Lady Sings the Viol, a unique compilation of covers of songs from the 1300 to the present day. She has commissioned ten new Australian works for the viola da gamba including an Australian first work for viol consort and bass clarinet composed by Paul Cutlan. In early 2013 Jenny will take up a prestigious Winter Residency at Banff Arts Centre, Canada. Her other ensemble, Sounds Baroque has previously been in residence at Bundanon on the New South Wales south coast.

08.01.2022 Artist Feature - Fortepianist Julie Haskell Julie Haskell began her performing career with a debut piano recital at the age of 13 at a University of Melbourne lunchtime concert. At this stage, she had already won many prizes and had gained her Associate Diploma with the Australian Music Examinations Board. 08.01.2022 Festival Artist - Samantha Cohen - Theorbo Samantha Cohen studied Classical guitar at the Victorian College of the Arts, where she eventually decided to abandon the guitar in favour of the lute. After undertaking studies in lute at the University of Melbourne, she won numerous awards and scholarships, including Australia Council grants and a Churchill Fellowship, which enabled her to further her studies with Jakob Lindberg in the UK. A scholarship from the Fondazione Marco Fo...della sent her to Italy for a year’s study with American lutenist, Paul Beier. Samantha works as a freelance continuo player and lutenist. She has performed with Opera Australia, Victorian Opera, Ludovico’s Band, The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Australian Brandenburg Ensemble, and Pinchgut Opera as well as the Melbourne, Queensland, Tasmanian and Adelaide Symphony Orchestras. She has appeared in the Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide Festivals, and has been recorded for radio and CD by the ABC. See more
