25.01.2022 The children love getting their dance on with a beat and some fun choreography! Here are some images of our Toddler 2 room dancing and playing to the song 'Hop Little Bunnies'/'Sleeping Bunnies'. This is a great children's song/nursery rhyme as it has words which are easy to action for the children to follow along, have fun and exercise!

24.01.2022 Hand-eye coordination is something that children begin developing from a very young age. From learning to use cutlery and bringing it to their mouth to being able to place smaller objects inside larger ones. This is all small developmental progress toward being able to catch and kick a ball or put their shoes on and tie their laces. This morning in our Toddler one room the children we practicing their hand-eye coordination by threading straws through a small hole in a ball. Such a simple activity that can advance these skills so much.

23.01.2022 Watching the educators always getting the food ready has inspired some little ones in our Toddler One room to practice their culinary skills!

23.01.2022 Getting ready for our fathers day breakfast tomorrow by preparing some beautiful handmade gifts across all of our rooms.

22.01.2022 Lego is a really great way for children to practice their hand eye coordination whilst also developing their imagination as they build anything from a house to a rocket ship. Each of our rooms has Duplo Lego and so many other toys/activities for the children to be developing crucial fine motor skills at a young age, helping them be ready for moving onto bigger activities like tying shoelaces or writing their names.

22.01.2022 Today the Preschool Two children decided their outdoor area needed a little bit of renovating! So they took it upon themselves to assist the educators with this rearrange for a new obstacle course with new scenery. This sort of initiative is amazing to see as the Preschoolers take on small tasks of responsibility in preparing them for 'big school'!

22.01.2022 As the wild, windy and wet weather hangs over us this week the children are enjoying more time exploring out artificial outdoor area - perfect for this sort of drastic weather change!

21.01.2022 Waiting patiently. It is something that children can somtimes struggle with at a young age. During their early childhood years children are very maluable and learn so quickly it is hard to keep up with them sometimes. This is a key time in their lives to be teaching them basic manners and skills such as patience or sharing so that it becomes second nature to them as they grow and move through higher education and general life experiences. So here is a photo of one little one learning to wait their turn until another child has moved from the bottom of the slide. Teaching not only patience and sharing but also safety when using the equipment.

21.01.2022 A really exceptional read about life lessons, 'failures' and their positives! http://www.essentialkids.com.au//good-parents-let-their-ch

16.01.2022 Order, structure and routine is great to teach children at a young age. It helps them to not be overwhelmed when they get to 'big kid school' and prepares them for work life when they eventually get there. We enjoy encouraging our older children to help tidy up after play time to help encourage this team environment and build an attitude of responsibility.

16.01.2022 It can be a fun experience for children to mix up their everyday activities. Such as painting with different instruments or drawing on different materials, to learn how different materials work (or do not work) together.

16.01.2022 Our Preschool 2 children have had a fantastic week partaking in two science experiments! The first was an experiment designed to promote healthy eating through showing what sugar and especially sugary drinks can do to our teeth! We spoke about how egg shells and our teeth are made of similar things (calcium). We then soaked the four eggs in different liquid to see the results. The aim of this experiment was to teach the children why it is important to brush our teeth and also to take more care when selecting what drink to have! The second experiment was a little bit of fun with Bi-carb Soda, Vitamin tablets and Pepsi. The children loved watched and learning how different substances can react together to cause different outcomes - some much more exciting than others!

16.01.2022 Learning how to share and play together are such important skills for us here at Giraffe. All of our kids are encouraged to share and be inclusive of all the other children in their classroom. Here are some children displaying their beautiful inclusion skills!

16.01.2022 Exploring surroundings is always fun and exciting! Testing new boundaries and finding new places - especially when you have a friend to experience it with you.

16.01.2022 At Giraffe Balgowlah it is important to us that all children should be able to enjoy a happy and merry Christmas. The lovely Mums at Smiles 2 U have initiated a toy drive where people are able to donate new and unopened/unused toys for children who will be spending Christmas in hospital. Giraffe Early Learning Centre has nominated as one of the many drop off points for these toys. So share with your friends and family as anyone is welcome to come into Giraffe Balgowlah and drop off a toy donation for the Smiles 2 U toy drive. More information and other drop off locations are attached in the link below.

15.01.2022 All of this rainy weather has given the children some time to learn the fun activities that you can do indoors! From interactive light tables to drawing and even the magic of music. We don't let this miserable weather stop us from having a fun time and developing!

14.01.2022 During the time spent at our centre the children get the opportunity to socialise and play with the other children in their class. This is an amazing way for the children to learn the skills of sharing, patience and coorperation!

14.01.2022 Some pictures from our beautiful fathers day breakfast being held this morning! Each room made beautiful presents for their fathers to show just how much they mean to them and how much they appreciate them. It is always great to see all of our parents, educators and children learning more about each other and celebrating such an important day!

14.01.2022 There are many toys within our centre which encourage 'lifestyle' play. We have kitchens with play food and utensils, cars and pretend petrol pumps and baby dolls. However, the one which the children love to play with together the most are the multiple cubby houses which are found in each of the rooms inside and out. The children really love to play pretend and peek-a-boo with the windows with their friends.

14.01.2022 Every day the children that attend Giraffe Early Learning Centre Balgowlah are provided ample opportunities to exercise and learn new skills while constantly challenging and developing their gross motor skills under the guidance of our experienced and qualified educators! Here are just a few photos of our Toddler children practicing kicking, jumping, obstacle courses and trying their hand a hula hooping!

14.01.2022 One of the most interesting and exciting aspects of being a parent is watching your child discover skills, dreams and passions as they grow! There are so many different futures out there for children and in their early stages of development their interests and preferences begin to grow and develop. From being a Chef to Artist to Architect or maybe even one day and Early Childhood Educator the possibilities are endless. For now we will let them explore, learn, play and repeat until they figure it out.

12.01.2022 Morning tea before nap time this morning! As the colder weather takes over it is important to keep up fluids and healthy foods to help keep your immune system in tip-top shape for fighting those nasty colds away! Our children enjoy a beautiful morning tea of cut fruit and vegetables and also mini quiches full of egg and extra veggies!

12.01.2022 Children are always pretending and mimicking what they see around them. Parents with handbags, doing the shopping, going to work or even playing with a baby doll the way their parents take care of them. These mimicking behaviours as children watch and learn how to move and respond in everyday environments are so beautiful and so healthy and we love to see them every day at Giraffe as the children in our care grow.

11.01.2022 Over the last two weeks we held some special activities for the school holiday period as something a bit different for the children. During this period of isolation we think it is still important to be staying fit and active! So on one of the scheduled days our Admin staff left her office to teach the children some sport skills! They practiced kicking, catching, played some games and learnt the importance of warming up, cooling down and stretching before and after exercise! Exercise is important as everyone knows for keeping healthy and happy though during this time physical games also provide relief against the difficulties of being stuck at home! So don't forget to encourage your kids to go on walks or kick a ball around outside with you - after what we saw last week we can tell you they all can and they are very good at it!

11.01.2022 Almost nap time at Balgowlah! But not before our Toddler One's have the chance to show how great they are at helping our educators clean up after themselves! A fun morning experimenting with the texture and mobility of playdough left a little bit of a mess, though the children were eager to jump in and help clean up!

09.01.2022 A big thankyou to the Northern Beaches Council for building pram friendly ramps on the roads near Giraffe Early Learning Centre Balgowlah! On all corners of both T-Intersections where Griffiths street meets Boyle street the Northern Beaches Council have built ramps to make crossing the road easier and safer for parents walking to and from our centre! What a difference this will make!

09.01.2022 Our 'Smiles 2 U' gift drive is in full swing as we get ready to hand our generous gifts over to the ladies at North Shore Mums Smiles2U who will pass them on to children in need. Our families at Giraffe Balgowlah have been so generous with their donations with gorgeous gifts including, toys, arts and crafts, books and some clothes. I am sure every gift here will bring a beautiful smile to the children who receive them and their families. It has been wonderful being a part of something that really brings together the community.

08.01.2022 Children are always on the move! We see them every day moving through different environments and play areas, indoor and out! The children with us at Giraffe Balgowlah are learning every day and are continuing to explore the spaces around them with complete curiosity and determination!

08.01.2022 Movement is a huge part in a young child's life. From the age of 1-4 children are beginning to walk, run, jump, hop, skip and swim! They are developing these movements everyday. Along with developing the movements they learn other details such as speed, balance and weight. Some objects assist in children learning and gaining these skills/knowledge such as walkers for young children or exploring what different weights do as they grow and become to heavy to rely on certain objects to hold them.

08.01.2022 The past fortnight we have been very busy with our children's Christmas concerts! There was plenty of singing, dancing and laughter to be had! And also a visit all the way from the North Pole! Thankyou to all the parents who came and supported the children and for bringing some delicious treats along for all to enjoy! ... It is a beautiful time of year filled with food, friends, family and gift giving and our children have thoroughly enjoyed getting into the Christmas Spirit!

08.01.2022 Some photos of one of our preschoolers using different elements to make art! Looking at the different ways materials interact with elements differently by using shiny and matte collaging a long with crayon drawings.

07.01.2022 Happy Halloween! The children have been very busy making lots of Halloween themed arts and crafts. A great day of indoor activities as the air remains highly polluted from the fires on the mid-north coast.

07.01.2022 This morning Toddler 3 experimented with the feeling of paint against their hands and had some fun making hand prints. The children loved squishing the paint through their fingers and pressing it against the paper and all showed excitement when they revealed their handprint on the paper!

04.01.2022 As children get older and move to new classrooms within our centre we slowly introduce new activities and routines to help them get ready for school. One of those is 'roll call' where we sit in a group and one of the educators will call out the names on the roll to which the children respond whether they are here. This is great practice for a primary school education setting where they will be expected to take attendance this way.

01.01.2022 Children are like sponges especially in their early stages of life. As they develop the ability for 'imaginative play' the tasks they take on are often mimicked from adults around them in and outside of the home. Whether that be an interest in cooking, taking care of a baby or 'going to work' like mummy and daddy children are always watching and learning what adults do in day to day life. This becomes the basis of their 'imaginative play' until they are old enough to create new concepts from new and broader experiences from friends, reading and school!

01.01.2022 Children have very active imaginations - through their little eyes, everything seems possible! In a child's mind, it is completely plausible that a cat, dinosaur, sheep, wolf, goat, tiger and panda could interact and play together within the same space. A child's mind is a beautiful place and an amazing gift which is why here at Giraffe we nurture and encourage their imaginations to grow with them as they experiment and discover the world around them.
