23.01.2022 Having a few beehives as a hobby and taking a a brake from my woodworking, I decided to make myself a bee hive lifter to make it easier if I want to lift the t...op box from a hive to inspect the next box below or completely lift the whole hive onto a truck or trailer to shift to a new location. I was going to make a manual winch to do the job but decided to use a 12 volt winch that I had on my trailer to make things easier. There are many different models you can buy on the net. I have long past being capable of physical lifting, as a three box hive can weigh up to 120 lbs or more, which is a good lift for two men. The cost to make was very little as I had most of the material laying around. See more

18.01.2022 Having made the last wooden table lamp, I remembered I had a old kero lamp in my shed and thought how wood that look made out of wood, so here it is.Most of the... timber used is Camphor Laurel, When I turned up the piece that is glass in the original I knew that the light wouldn't shine through it for a major effect so I did a few router cuts to let it shine through. The stranded electrical lamp set up was too large for the job and I ended up getting a miniature bulb and socked which suited it nicely. See more

08.01.2022 Back to the wood turning. I picked up a log out of my timber supply ,thinking that it was a timber called Dead finish, but when I started to cut it up I realize...d it wasn't, only the bark was similar. When the base was turned it had no great appeal, it didn't have any standout features, so I routed eight vertical groves around the top and added pieces of camphor laurel, which did the trick. Instead of a cloth shade I decided to make a wooden out also with Camphor inserts to match the base. The fill in sections were also camphor to match the base, they put through the thickness-er and drum sander, down to 1.5 mm in the hope the light would show the features. any natural flaws were left to allow light to shine through.
