25.01.2022 A highlight of the g-oz program week in Lockhart River is visiting our friends at the Puuya Foundation, and working with the kids at families at their Kuunchi Kakana Centre. There is still time to vote for the Puuya Foundation, for the chance for them to win a $10,000 grant. Follow the link to support their important work: https://dreamsforabetterworld.com.au/vote

25.01.2022 On July 20 2015, g-oz Program Director Kylie Lee-Archer and instructor Jess Opacic (nee Daniel) landed in Lockhart River to pilot the g-oz program. 5 years later, g-oz has been consistently returning to community, empowering girls with quality performing arts education. But with COVID-19, we have been unable to visit Lockhart River in 2020. We are missing singing and dancing with the wonderful, energetic and passionate Lockhart River girls, and we can't wait to be back when it is safe to do so.

24.01.2022 This National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day, we’re celebrating the theme ‘We are the Elders of tomorrow, hear our voice’. Listening to the unique perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children’s voices is an important step towards their development into being influential Elders and leaders in the future. At Girls from Oz, we’re proud of the role we play in helping girls find their voices, encouraging them to feel no shame in being themse...lves, and pursuing their ambitions. We believe this is a crucial step in the girls becoming leaders in the future. We’ve seen girls transform from being shy in sessions, to speaking proudly about their culture to a sold out Sydney Opera House audience. From not wanting to sing in a group, to performing solos at the Ord Valley Muster: Kimberley Moon Experience. It is because of this impact that we are so delighted our Term 3 programs are going ahead at Halls Creek District High School and Carnarvon Community College in just a few weeks’ time, and we hope to visit Lockhart State School when safe to do so. Happy National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day to our g-oz participants, we can’t wait to sing and dance with you soon!

24.01.2022 We just had to share this wonderful response from the Associate Principal of Carnarvon Community College! With so many changes to the g-oz program year due to COVID-19, we're so delighted to have welcomed new talented g-oz instructors to the team.

24.01.2022 Have you read our Latest News? We're looking back at past NAIDOC celebrations. In 2018, the theme was 'because of her we can'. For more fun reflections, read our latest news here: http://ow.ly/NZFo50ALTjz

21.01.2022 Great to be back with our Carnarvon girls! The start of a great week ahead. #gozinCarnarvon #westisbest #CatchYouinCarnarvon

20.01.2022 Welcome to Term 4! After our programs had to be cancelled in term 2 due to COVID-19 we experienced an incredible Giving Circles fundraising campaign in June and now it is a joy to be able to return to delivering our usual programs with state-based Instructor teams from across Australia. Read all about what’s taking place in Girls from Oz’s world in our Term 4 Newsletter: https://girlsfromoz.org.au/2020-term4-newsletter/

20.01.2022 Program Director Kylie and g-oz Instructors Ginger and Sam felt incredibly honoured to meet and sing with the ‘Old Girls’ of community in our Term 1 visit to Lockhart. The women sang a beautiful song called ‘Old Lockhart’ for us and we hope to learn it and help them teach it to all the students of Lockhart State School later this year. If there’s one thing we’re good at, it’s learning and singing songs, so we hope to do that with the community members who deeply understand an...d are willing to share their culture. 16.01.2022 If it wasn't for #COVID, we would've celebrated NAIDOC week in July. We're looking forward to celebrating NAIDOC with the #HallsCreek community when we visit for term three, but until then we invite you join us on a trip down memory lane as we look back on our past NAIDOC celebrations. 15.01.2022 As we celebrate five years of working with the community of #LockhartRiver we are reminded of where it all began. Our Patron, Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO, has had a long relationship with the community and she suggested Lockhart River as our first Queensland site. What better time to share five lessons from our Patron's feature in The Australian Women's Weekly in September 2019? We continue to be inspired by Ms Bryce and hope you’ll enjoy reading her thoughts about girls, opportunities, education, relationships and culture.

15.01.2022 Wishing Judith Curphey a very happy 91st birthday today! Judith is one of our founding directors and is the Founder of our partner, the Australian Girls Choir. Her passion for the performing arts saw her start the Australian Girls Choir at age 55, and her desire to make performing arts accessible to girls all over Australia is evident in the g-oz program. As you can see from the photos below, she is still inspiring and mentoring girls all over Australia. ... We wish Judith all the best on this special day.

14.01.2022 g-oz Instructors Eliza, Lani and Mel all returned to Halls Creek to deliver our 43rd week-long Community Program. That’s a lot of hours of singing and dancing over more than 10 years with children from Kindy to Year 2 and girls only from Year 3 right through to secondary. A highlight of our time in Halls Creek in Term 1 was reconnecting with g-oz alumni DJ Calwyn. DJ finished year 12 last year and is now completing a traineeship with our community partner, the girls’ engagem...ent program Shooting Stars. Being based in the school meant that DJ was able to participate in g-oz sessions each day and provide the role modelling that all young girls and women need. 11.01.2022 At Girls from Oz we're celebrating our thirteenth birthday today. Girls from Oz is a teenager! In exactly the same way that the girls who have participated, and continue to participate, in our programs over the years are growing up, so are we. Together we get stronger and smarter and more ready to face challenges and make a contribution. Hip hip hooray! 10.01.2022 The first of our Term 1 Community Programs kicked off in March in Carnarvon on International Women’s Day. Our g-oz Instructors Jane, Ellie and Emma were thrilled to celebrate with the g-oz participants and women in community. Jane, Ellie and Emma enjoyed delivering in-school sessions each day as well as engaging with students in the Carnarvon Community College after-school homework program 'Follow the Dream'. In Term 2 we intend to recommence our Mentor Program in Carnarvon w...here students in upper secondary school support younger g-oz program participants and will prepare a performance for the school’s Reconciliation Week event. 10.01.2022 It's been a long five months, but we're so excited to be back in Halls Creek in just two weeks! We're busy working behind the scenes to get everything ready for fun week of singing, dancing and confidence building.

09.01.2022 We think we’re the lucky ones Kowanyama State School! Ginger and Kylie enjoyed sessions with the year 2 children, year 3/4 girls and the secondary girls today. Tomorrow at school we’ll sing and dance with Kindy, year 1, year 5/6 girls and secondary again. See you there #KowieKids! #gozinKowanyama #girlsfromoz #gozfunin2021

08.01.2022 We're so excited to finally be preparing for term three classes in Halls Creek and Carnarvon! With interstate travel not possible, we've contacted some of our talented colleagues from our big sister organisation, the Australian School of Performing Arts in Western Australia to deliver our program. While we're normally proud of our multi-state Instructor teams, we're pleased to be welcoming new members to the g-oz community from WA and ensure that we are able to go ahead wit...h Term 3 program in a COVID safe way. While this year has not gone planned for many, we're enjoying the sliver linings that has come from this uncertain period. Watch this space for more updates!

07.01.2022 Some funny faces in Coastal places! Our Carnarvon girls are having loads of fun with our G-oz team this term. #gozincarnarvon

07.01.2022 There's just one week until the g-oz team is back at Halls Creek District High School! The last time the g-oz team visited in early March this year, we took the first steps to grow the next generation of Girls from Oz, through the form of a mentoring program. These senior girls, who have all been on a travel program, worked with our instructors and led music activities and dances in the primary school sessions. We can't wait to continue this program and work towards one day having our first in-community instructor!

06.01.2022 One of the highlights of our Term 3 program in Carnarvon was welcoming new members to the g-oz instructor team. Our charitable partnership with the Australian Girls Choir has been a key factor in allowing our programs to continue while navigating border closures. We caught up with some new Instructors before our teams left for Carnarvon and Lockhart River last week. Read more in our latest news: https://girlsfromoz.org.au/a-year-of-silver-linings-de-cas/

05.01.2022 While the g-oz team is back in Lockhart River for the first time in 2020, our friends at the Puuya Foundation are finalists in the Sunsuper Dreams for a Better World grant, and they need your vote! g-oz has been working with the The Puuya Foundation since we first visited Lockhart State School in 2015, and we hope our generous supporters can help the foundation to win this $10,000 grant, which would establish the Learning Together for a Better Life Program. "Sunsuper’s Dreams... for a Better World grants will provide the funds for training and resources to expand our Kuunchi Kakana Centre early years program with a particular emphasis on engaged literacy with parents/carers in the Lockhart River community. We will create an environment of learning and sharing culture together, whilst contributing to adult’s and children’s learning." - Puuya Foundation To vote for the Puuya Foundation, follow this link: https://dreamsforabetterworld.com.au/vote

04.01.2022 "Taneesha is an extremely hard worker and a great role model in Carnarvon with the Gascoyne Bulldogs." Congratulations to g-oz participant Taneesha for debuting with the South Fremantle Football Club! It is always a great joy to witness and share the diverse talents of g-oz participants working hard to pursue their passions.

04.01.2022 Congratulations to g-oz participants Latisha from Carnarvon and DJ from Halls Creek who have started working with one of our community partners, Shooting Stars: Education Through Netball! We can't wait to celebrate this achievement with the girls when the g-oz team visits community for Term 3 programs. Congratulations girls!

03.01.2022 In long awaited news we are so glad to have piloted a new program in the community of Kowanyama in Term 1. Kowanyama State School Deputy Principal Hayley Lawton was a teacher supervisor on our g-oz Travel Program in 2016 when she worked in Lockhart River and has been pursuing g-oz since her move to ‘Kowie’ 4 years ago. This term Kylie and Ginger visited Kowanyama for the first time and spent a busy week singing and dancing with students from Kindy to Year 10. All of the child...ren and some of the teenagers engaged with the program beautifully and we are confident that the program will grow and develop over the coming terms and years. 01.01.2022 It’s always exciting when a new g-oz Instructor joins the team so this week we’re doubly excited! Belinda and Hannah are both in Halls Creek on their first g-oz trip. We hope it’s the first of many, welcome Bel and Hannah! #respectsisters #hallscreek #weareback #gozbecause

01.01.2022 "I hope that together we can share the power of sisterhood with the young women of Lockhart River and inspire them to surround themselves with like-minded, supportive women throughout their lives. This week, the g-oz team is back in Lockhart River for the first time in 2020, and in a g-oz first, our Instructor team is made up of a pair of sisters! Australian Girls Choir Alumni Eliza and Jazmine De Castro landed in community today, and we caught up with them for our Latest News before they headed north. http://ow.ly/pzlu50Bjze6
