23.01.2022 In Rock and Water with 3 Halliday and 3 Clarke, students have been working with Mrs Rust on activities to build trust with classmates. This learning experience encouraged students to feel supported and lean on each other physically and let go of any fears they may have that their peers may not have their back. Through the lesson students discussed the need to have adults and friends in their lives they could trust and rely on in times of need, reflecting that there was no situation too bad that they couldn’t share.

21.01.2022 5/6 Dixon have been inquiring into the changing environments in the NT looking at the ways land has been developed, managed and conserved across our region. Through the inquiry, students interviewed members of the public, including environmental minister Eva Lawler and had visitors including a ranger from Parks and Wildlife to look at the different perspectives in the management of the land. Students built their skills to write open ended questions, find and examine sources o...f information, note take effectively, summarise information and present findings in response to issues. Students have learnt mapping conventions to create a model of the different environmental areas using different artistic techniques. 5/6 Dixon presented their learning at assembly in week 10. The audience was very engaged and connected to the different geographical areas of focus, including places like Litchfield, Adelaide River and Kakadu. We are hoping to showcase this model in the wider community to provoke people to think about the environmental factors that development and conservation have on our special places across the NT. 14.01.2022 Our last day of term 3 ended with a student V teacher soccer match. While the student teams got to change in and out, the trusty staff did their best to sustain their fitness for the whole game. With goals kicked by Mr Knights, Mrs Stevens, Miss Malady and Mr Dixon, the staff managed to score the 5 with the students scoring 2. Well done everyone, that was lots of fun.
12.01.2022 Our last day of term 3 was made more exciting with our whole school colour-fun-run. Check out the change from pristine white to rainbow shirts. It was great to have so many parents come along to cheer everyone on. A big thank you to Mrs Finnen and the specialist team for organising the event. Students still have until 23/10 to get their fundraising money in, which will be going towards the upgrade of our school farm. Thank you to parents and the wider community for sponsoring Girraween students. Go Girraween!!
12.01.2022 Throughout week 9, the year 4 students from Mr. Knight’s, Miss Malady’s and Miss Chaffey’s classes have been sharing information about their personal heroes. They told us why their chosen person inspires them. We had presentations on inspirational family members, environmental activists, athletes and sportsmen and women, historical figures, authors and performers and more. On Friday, the students, the year 4 teachers and Mr. Lachie came to school dressed as people they consider heroes. The students got to interview the adults ( as Tayla Swift, Jackie French, Rowan Atkinson and Steve Irwin) to learn more about these amazing people and their contributions that make them heroes. The students put a lot of thought into their questions.
