21.01.2022 IS YOUR BUSINESS FLOOD SAFE? During flood events, VICSES and other emergency services are in great demand and must prioritise calls for assistance. Rather than rely on emergency services for help, it is important that you are ready and prepared for a flood. Remember that flooding does not only occur due to rivers, creeks and lakes overflowing but also due to leaking rooves, broken water pipes and from damage resulting from fallen trees or storm damage.... 16.01.2022 REMEMBER TO MASK UP, STAY HOME AND STAY SAFE From today masks/facial coverings are mandatory throughout Victoria when you leave home (with some exemptions). The Victorian Department of Health & Human Services outlines that facial coverings should cover the mouth and nose to limit the spread of COVID-19. So we recruited some of our pet members to show you the right and wrong way to wear a mask. As we prepare to enter our second Stage 3 lockdown in the Macedon Ranges from 11:5...9 on Wednesday the 5th of August, our thoughts are with every member of the community during these unprecedented and challenging times. Rest assured we are always here to help if you require emergency assistance. If you see debris on the road or require emergency assistance in floods and storms, please contact SES on 132 500. For life-threatening situations, please call triple zero (000) Disclaimer: no masks were eaten or pets were harmed in the process (just some mild embarrassment) For information on facial coverings and masks please visit: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/face-coverings-regional-victori For current and up to date information on COVID-19, restrictions and public health directives please visit: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus

15.01.2022 NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK Today marks the start of National Volunteer Week which runs until Sunday the 24th of May. National Volunteer Week recognises the contributions of volunteers all around Australia and gives the community the opportunity to say thanks to those who volunteer their time to many different services and causes. It is also a chance for us to say thank you to not only all the volunteers in our unit but also the other volunteers we work and live alongside every... day. This years theme is Changing Communities. Changing Lives. Without a doubt, it has been an incredibly challenging time for communities navigating COVID-19 and this years theme certainly resonates with us. However, rest assured, as always your Gisborne SES volunteers are always ready to respond to calls for assistance from the community whether there is a pandemic or not. Volunteers are vital to the Victorian State Emergency Service and without volunteers; there would be no Gisborne SES. Your volunteers live in the community, know and understand the needs of the community and are extremely passionate and dedicated to the work they do for the community. Whether it is attending road crashes, storm and floods, searches or offering support to other agencies, your volunteers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to offer help and support when you need it. The simple act of wearing orange this Wednesday the 20th of May (WOW Day) can help SES volunteers see how much they are valued by the community. #NVW2020 #WOWDAY

14.01.2022 INTERNATIONAL DOG DAY Happy International Dog Day to all the furry members of our community. Today recognises the love and value that dogs bring to our daily lives. Not many people know that we can assist with some small animal rescues, this includes dogs! We commonly get called to assist dogs stuck in drains and wombat holes on both private property and local parkland. There is nothing we love more than reuniting pets with their owners.... Our unofficial SES dog members also play a role in many of our community engagement activities, such as the Christmas Festival, WOW Day and social media campaigns.

12.01.2022 VIRTUAL SCOUT VISITS During the year, we are always busy with Scout and school visits but unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we had to cancel them. This meant we had to find another way to deliver these sessions. Last week we hosted our first virtual scout visits with the Joeys and Cubs from the 1st New Gisborne Scout Group. Like many other members of the community, the Scouts have been staying connected through weekly Zoom sessions from home. This was the perfe...ct opportunity for us to trial a Scout visit online. We delivered a presentation, gave them a tour of our rescue truck and some of the equipment we use all from the truck bay! We are glad to say both sessions went well and we look forward to running more sessions in the future. If your community group, Scout group or school is interested in having a virtual session with us during term 3 or if you would like to know more please send us an email at [email protected]

Once crews located her they were able to carefully hand dig her out to her waiting family.
05.01.2022 At approximately 3:30 this afternoon the Riddells Creek Fire Brigade was called to a young boy with his knee stuck in a tree at the Riddells Creek Recreation re...serve. As well as the local brigade, Gisborne brigade, Ambulance Victoria and Gisborne SES rescue were also responded. Upon arrival the brigade found a boy with his leg wedged between two large tree trunks. He had been there for some time and his parents and friends trying to get him out. He was not in pain but was well and truly stuck there. Upon arrival of the ambulance he was checked and found to be okay. The SES then used the Jaws of life to spread the tree trunks which allowed for the boy to be lifted out safely and with no injury. He was again checked by the ambulance crew and is now back with his family. In the process of spreading the trunks of the tree there was a loud cracking noise. The area at the north end of the football oval has been cordoned off until the tree is assessed by council. This cordon is there for the safety of the community and should be left in place until removed by the appropriate authority.
