24.01.2022 10 Fun Facts About Babies (That You Didn't Already Know) // It might not seem like babies do a whole lot, but they're actually incredibly fascinating - and full of surprises. From smelling addictive to knowing more than you think, top up your general knowledge levels with these amazing facts... 1. They're Surprisingly Strong! You wouldn't think it, but a newborn's grasp is so strong that he can support his entire weight with it. Probably not one to try at home, though.... 2. Birthmarks Are Really Common Around 80 per cent of newborns have a birthmark - usually what's known as a port-wine stain (a redish/purply mark on the face) or a stork bite. 3. They Get Through LOTS Of Nappies! Around 2,700 to be exact. 4. They Don't Have Kneecaps. Instead of actually having kneecaps, babies are born with cartilage that looks a lot like them. They fully develop actual kneecaps at around six months old. 5. Their Eye Colour Isn't Determined. Although most babies are born with big blue eyes, a pigment in the iris matures over the first two years of their life, usually leaving them a different colour. 6. They Remember Songs Heard In The Womb! According to research, babies can recognise music for up to four months after birth. 7. Their Smell Is Addictive! There's a reason we all love that lovely (clean) baby scent. A University of Montreal study found that a baby's smell brought out the same pleasure and craving that food does when we're hungry. 8. There Are Lots Of Them! Somewhere in the world, a baby is born approximately every three seconds. 9. They Have More Bones Than Adult! A baby is born with around 300 bones but these fuse together over time to leave only 206 by the time he reaches adulthood. 10. They Need A Lot Of Sleep! We're talking around 16 hours a day. Sadly, it doesn't tend to be straight through the night BTW how adorable is this newborn! . giselle&i

24.01.2022 NEWBORN SLEEP 101//By 6-8 weeks, healthy full-term babies will be to sleep in longer stretches, some even up to 8 hours by 8 weeks! But how can you get there? How did I get there with MY son? Here are few pointers to help your Newborn baby from the very beginning: - Work on day vs. night confusion, placing baby near a well-lit window while they are awake, or walks outside. - Give baby a chance to fall asleep on her/his own ... - Baby needs about 16-18 hours of sleep in a total 24 hour period, so expect a LOT of napping! - At night, keep lights dim and change babys diaper before a feed, be sure to burp your baby after each feed too! - Give baby a consistent sleeping area, and encourage the same place for naps. The same place over and over will help baby feel safe and secure! 21.01.2022 Natural Remedies to ease colic pain//Bath time! A bath at the end of the day/evening (followed by a feeding) helps cue a babys brain that bedtime is near. This can be an excellent way to prepare babies for night sleep. Did you know that science actually supports a bath as part of the bedtime routine? Heres why: During a warm bath, blood comes to the surface of the skin. This is called vasodilation. When we get out of the tub, blood vessels are still open, so our body te...mperature drops a bit. This slight drop in core body temp promotes sleep for us and our babies! 20.01.2022 Im thankful to say Zayne has been a really chilled baby, of course like any other newborn he cries and as I tell hubby (he tends to freaks out) Its his only way of communicating with us. But at around 4am this morning he was crying a different cry, cry filled with pain and I could not get him to settle no matter how hard I tried. Those bursts of painful cries continued all morning so after 8am I decided to make him Soothe Me Baby to help release, ease and settle his pain an...d discomfort. This is the first time I have offered Zayne Soothe Me Baby and in no way did i expect him to take it straight away as this is a new foreign flavour for him so bit by bit I offered the bottle until he was able to drink it with ease and he did eventually. I burped Zayne a few times, rewrapped him, craddled him some more and put him down for a morning nap, I will still need to go pick him up and give him some more loving as he falls into a deeper sleep but he is definitely more settled calmed and relaxed with no more painful outbursts. (When Zayne becomes hungry again I will continue with his normal feeding pattern (SMB is not at all filling, it is very light weight and gentle on the tummy) P.s no need to offer SMB again if your baby is happy and settled my son Made with love . . . . . #motherhood #mother #newbornbaby #newborn #colicbaby #family #blessed #baby #babylove #pregnant #facts #natural #health #love #mother #instagood #blogger #children #babyboy #babygirl #beautiful #pregnancy #nofilter #instagood #mom #mum #happy #healthy #breastfeeding #soothemebaby
19.01.2022 New babies are naturally windy//its the result of an immature digestive system dealing with the process of nutrient extraction and breaking down sugars in the large intestine. Some foods eaten by mum can give a breastfeeding excess wind also.... Looking for a natural and effective approach for relieving wind? Soothe Me Baby has you covered! 18.01.2022 BURPING IS NECESSARY//An important part of feeding a baby is burping. Burping helps to get rid of some of the air that babies tend to swallow during feeding. Not being burped often and swallowing too much air can make a baby spit up, or seem cranky or gassy. How to Burp Your Baby When burping your baby, repeated gentle patting on your babys back should do the trick. Cup your hand while patting - this is gentler on the baby than a flat palm.... To prevent messy clean-ups when your baby spits up or has a "wet burp," you might want to place a towel or bib under your babys chin or on your shoulder. Try different positions for burping that are comfortable for you and your baby. Many parents use this as their method. Sit upright and hold your baby against your chest. Your babys chin should rest on your shoulder as you support the baby with one hand. With the other hand, gently pat your babys back. Sitting in a rocking chair and gently rocking with your baby while you do this may also help. Sometimes your baby may awaken because of gas. Picking your little one up to burp might put him or her back to sleep. Babies with colic (3 or more hours a day of continued crying) might have gas from swallowing too much air during crying spells, which can make the baby even more uncomfortable. 10.01.2022 Coping with colic: 10 tips // Crying and fussing is a normal part of development for most babies. It will pass in time. But here are some ideas that might help cut down on how often, how long and how intensely your baby cries and fusses: * Check whether your baby is comfortable. See whether his nappy needs changing, or whether hes too hot or cold. * Offer a feed if you think your baby might be hungry, or if the last feed was more than two hours ago.... * Offer a dummy or the breast. Sometimes your baby isnt hungry but wants or needs to suck. If shes 3-4 months or older, you could also help her find her own fingers or thumb to suck. * Speak softly to your baby, sing to him or play soft music. He might just want to know youre nearby, and your voice might soothe him. White noise can also be soothing for some babies. You could try a fan, a vacuum, or a radio set to the static between stations. * Gently rock or carry your baby in a baby carrier or sling. Sometimes movement and closeness to a parent can soothe babies. * Take your baby for a walk in the pram. But note that it isnt recommended to leave your baby sleeping unsupervised in a pram. * Try baby massage. This will often calm your baby and help you relax too. It can also strengthen the bond between you and your baby. Your child and family health nurse can teach you how to do baby massage. * Give your baby a warm bath. This might settle your baby and help her sleep. * Calm things down by dimming the lights, which helps to reduce stimulation. * Try to establish a pattern to feeding and settling. You can experiment to see which remedy best suits your situation. Sometimes remedies that may work well one day might not work for the next day, Just keep trying. Soothe Me Baby is another natural and effective method for relieving colic pain, acting as a gastrointestinal relaxant, SMB helps to eliminate and expel unwanted gases trapped in the stomach and aids to promote digestion and relaxation. 08.01.2022 White noise is magic! // Did you know your baby will be soothed and comforted by sounds that remind her of the rhythmic noises she heard in your womb (uterus). The sound of your heartbeat when you hold her close during skin-to-skin may also help calm her and regulate her breathing. Many babies also enjoy the sound of a washing machine or a vacuum cleaner, the thrum of a car engine as they sit in the back seat, or just some simple white noise. There are plenty of toys and app...s that make these kinds of sounds, or you can just search for a free white noise video online. If you find your baby is still very unsettled Soothe Me Baby also offers a very calming and relaxing effect, another of its potent benefits. Several of its constituents, such as thymol, terpineol and eugenol can help to reduce feelings of anxiety and relieve sleeplessness and insomnia. 07.01.2022 HOW TO BOND WITH YOUR NEWBORN // bonding with your newborn through warm, gentle affection makes her feel safe. Here are some ideas: Regularly touch and cuddle your newborn. Try rocking him or holding him against you, skin on skin. Or stroke him gently when you change his nappy or bath him. Respond to crying. You might not always be able to tell why your newborn is crying. But by responding, youre helping her to feel safe.... Make your newborn feel physically safe. Provide good head and neck support when youre holding your bab. Wrapping your baby recreates the secure feeling of being in the womb. Talk to your newborn as often as you can in soothing, reassuring tones. You could talk about what youre doing, or tell stories. This helps your baby learn to recognise the sound of your voice. It will also help her learn language when shes older. Sing songs. Your newborn will probably like the up and down sounds of songs and music, as well as rhythm. Soothing music might help him and you feel calmer. Your newborn wont mind if youve forgotten the words or the tune. Look your newborn in the eyes while you talk and sing, and make facial expressions. This will help her learn the connection between words and feelings. Stimulate your newborns sense of touch. From birth, your newborn can feel even the gentlest touch. Try gently stroking his feet with soft fabric while youre changing his nappy. And talk about it for example, Does that feel nice?" Bonding with your baby is important. It helps to release hormones and chemicals in the brain that encourage rapid brain growth. xx Giselle&I

03.01.2022 BABY SLEEP CYCLES are quite different from yours // starting from the amount of time each of you spend sleeping. As you probably already know, your baby needs much more sleep than you do! Heres a guide for a 24 hour period, depending on age: * Newborns need around 16 hours... * 3 month olds need around 15 hours * 2 month olds + need around 12 hours Of course, your baby will not take all this sleep in one long stretch, but in sleep-wake cycles throughout the day. You only need to consider the size of a babys stomach (hint: tiny!) to know that they will need to wake more often to fill it up. Babies need to eat quite frequently just to keep functioning. A newborns sleep cycle is much simpler with only two stages - quiet and active sleep. Your babys sleep cycle is also much shorter, with an average of 50-60 minutes for the first nine months, often even shorter. Despite all these challenges about the way babies are wired for sleep, sleep remains crucial in the early months and years for brain development, especially forming the vital connections between the brain hemispheres which are important to language, relationships and reasoning. There are lots of ways to help your baby form healthy sleeping habits. A good place to start is by creating and implementing simple bedtime routines. My routine (below) every night begins close to 6:30pm aiming for a bedtime of 7:30pm A warm bath, feed, cuddle, burp & bed Love Giselle&I

01.01.2022 Winter Season//One of the most common challenges faced by all mothers is to keep their little ones cozy and warm during the cold winter days. In the winter season, especially when its freezing outside, it becomes really difficult for babies to regulate their body temperature, which makes them more vulnerable to cough, cold and flu. Thus, its very important for you to be knowledgeable about how you can help your baby maintain a consistent body temperature during the winterti...me, especially the nights. Read on to know what you should do to keep your infant warn and comfy in those frigid winter nights. Dress Your Baby Right: In the winter, the best way to keep your little one warm during sleep is dressing him in easy to put on and remove layers. Instead of overloading your baby with heavy or woolen clothes, wear him a few thin layers of warm clothes that you could easily remove during diaper changes. A good rule of thumb is to dress your baby in one more layer than you. Set the Room Temperature Right: To make sure you newborn doesnt feel neither too hot nor too cold, try keeping his room at a comfortable temperature of between18 to 20 degree Celsius. Use a room thermometer to check whether or not your babys room stays at a safe, comfortable temperature. Ideally, the room temperature should feel cozy to a lightly clothed adult. Swaddle or Use a Sleeping Bag: Sometimes, when the weather is too cold, dressing your infant in one piece suits is not enough to keep him warm. To provide your baby a comfortable, restful sleep in those freezing nights, youre required to wrap him in a thick swaddling blanket. In case your little one kicks the blankets off very often, you can put him into a sleeping bag (also known as a wearable blanket) to sleep. Keep the Wind off of Baby: The position of your babys crib in the room also affects how comfortable he will feel during sleep. Place the crib or bassinet several feet away from air vents, drafty windows, fans and outside walls. Also, close any windows and doors to prevent cold air from entering the room. Giselle&I
