25.01.2022 Great News for all Australians: BUDGET 2020 UPDATE The Federal Government has tonight announced that all Australians will now see a doubling of access to Medicare-funded psychology sessions, from 10 to 20 sessions per year.... Health Minister Greg Hunt confirmed that the additional sessions will commence from this Friday 9th October 2020, with review of a patient’s mental health care plan, or re-referral, required only at the 10-session mark, an increase from the previous requirement for re-referral after 6 sessions. Please do remember though that insurance companies are STILL refusing income protection insurance if you have had a MHCP, sadly. Please express your dissatisfaction about this to your local politicians.

25.01.2022 The recent increase in positive cases in is an unfortunate reminder that we continue to live with COVID. We have learned a lot from Victoria and with the situation very fluid in NSW, the NSW Premier has now recommended to wear masks in situations where social distancing is not possible. The viral load of breathing inside an enclosed space for 50 minutes makes our therapy staff a close contact. We have therefore advised staff to wear masks if at all possible, and would like to... ask you to do the same. Face masks are increasingly becoming part of everyday life If Toilet Paper was the symbol of the first phase of COVID, then Masks are symbolic of this phase. With face masks fast becoming part of everyday life in Victoria (and indeed in many parts of Europe and the United States), it feels prudent to prepare for the same in NSW. Telehealth session are still available via phone or Zoom. We fully support all customers and team members who choose to wear a face covering, as we feel it protects us all. With our staff being considered a close contact, the time may come where will have have to notify you to self isolate; in case they have come into contact with another COVID positive person, or if they have tested positive. When we do learn of a confirmed case, we think it's important to be fully transparent to the local community, including posting notices on our website and notifying all persons who were in attendance at that time. We'll also continue to work with the Health Department to make sure our safety protocols and procedures are the best they can be. The safety and wellbeing of our customers, staff and communities remains our top priority. Thank you for your ongoing support as we all work together to keep our communities safe and limit the spread of COVID-19 in New South Wales. Stay Safe, and please wear a mask Vera Auerbach, Principal Gymea Lily Psychotherapy Centre

21.01.2022 This came from the APS today: still no decision... "We understand APS members are concerned for their clients by the uncertainty about provision of COVID-19 telehealth items beyond 30 September. Based on advice today from the Federal Minister for Health Greg Hunt, we anticipate an announcement about an extension to the COVID-19 telehealth items will be made very soon. It is clear to the APS, through our many discussions on this topic, that the Government is committed to the ...mental health of all Australians, and that much work has been done this year to support psychologists in the delivery of their practice. We look forward to working with the Government to assist this focus to continue. In terms of next steps, members can tentatively re-book clients beyond 30 September, with the proviso that you will reconfirm such appointments once the announcement has been made. Alternatively, members could add clients to a wait list and contact them once a Government announcement is made. I acknowledge that either action will require an additional administrative step, but when political decisions are being made one cannot make assumptions prior to a formal announcement. " Yours sincerely Dr Zena Burgess FAPS FAICD Chief Executive Officer See more

20.01.2022 Have you used your 10 sessions this calendar year - here are 10 extra ones if you qualify for any of the conditions below: Better Access Subsequent Treatment Services- 10 extra COVID sessions As the name suggests, this is an add on or addition to the current Better Access program, it is essentially a continuation of this program to support those most impacted by COVID-19. ... There is a telehealth or face to face (where safe) option. Rebate amounts are the same as the current Better Access items. Subsequent sessions are available from today, Friday 7 August 2020. Who is eligible? A person with a mental health disorder subject to COVID-19 public health orders means any who person has been: (a) required to isolate between 1 July 2020 and before 31 March 2021 due to being diagnosed with COVID-19; or (b) compelled by law at any time after 1 July 2020, to remain quarantined for 14 days or more as a result of being in contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19; or (c) compelled by law at any time after 1 July 2020 to remain in quarantine for 14 days or more after arriving from outside Australia or from another State or Territory; or (d) compelled by a public health law of any State or Territory, to remain isolated at home (subject to lawful exemptions or hospitalisation) for a continuous period of 28 days or more between 1 July 2020 and 1 March 2021. Part d would apply to all Victorians. a, b and c can be used for those in other parts of Australia, where applicable. How does the client access the extra sessions? 1. Clients need to have used 10 better access initial treatment services in that calendar year. 2. After the last session, the reviewing practitioner (GP, psychiatrist, paediatrician) needs to have a session with the client to access the effectiveness of treatment and the appropriateness of further treatment. 3. If the reviewing practitioner determines that is it clinically appropriate for the client to access subsequent treatment services, they must modify the clients plan.

03.01.2022 Would you be comfortable wearing a mask to therapy: Here is what is happening in VIC ...Today we have received confirmation from the COVID-19 Public Information Officer for DHHS that as psychologists (in both private practice and hospital environments) are considered health care workers, and since both are public facing areas (particularly where social distancing is not possible), that they must wear a surgical mask (level 1 being a single-use disposal surgical mask). Their p...atients should wear face coverings as well. This advice is for all health care workers in Victoria including in regional and rural areas. The following are the most relevant exemptions from wearing face masks: Infants and children under the age of 12 are not required to wear a face covering. Due to risk of choking it is not safe to use a mask on child under two years of age. A person who is affected by a relevant medical condition - including problems with their breathing, a serious skin condition on the face, a disability or a mental health condition. This also includes persons who are communicating with a person who is hearing impaired, where the ability to see the mouth is essential for communication.
