25.01.2022 I have read many, many books about Marilyn yet this is a MUST read.

25.01.2022 Finally finished Women Ive Undressed by Orry-Kelly. Huge book, very heavy, needed help to carry inside so was excited to get started and read all the stories. Really interested in the first section and his memories of the streets of Sydney and then New York during and after the World War I. As the book progressed though I was disappointed to read more and more gossip about the "stars" and unfortunately not in a benevolent way. By the middle of the book it was getting to be a chore to continue reading the dirt on Hollywood. His designs still shine however if you are looking for a book with explanations of his designs and his inspiration of each silhouette he created it may be better to just watch the movies and use your own imagination how he made the stars shine.

24.01.2022 Everybody Loves Lucy is a short-run show being performed in Melbourne at Chapel off Chapel. It pays tribute to Lucille Ball who was the Queen of American comedy (and some consider still is) as well as being a model, film and television actress and studio executive. I was so pleased that I got to see the personal bungalow/office/dressing room that Lucy used in the 1950s & 1960s, the most fasinating story of how she literally brought child care to the studios. Elise McCann is playing Lucy and iIn addition to performing, Elise McCann is a professionally accredited teacher of Ballroom and Latin Dancing and teaches across Australia.

22.01.2022 Into Musicals? Love the 1950s? Consider seeing the Ladies in Black :) Playing in Sydney now and due to open in Melbourne during the Melbourne International Fashion Festival in February, this is definitely a theatre show to consider. Not only is this show a fun romp through the 1950s with the characters all working in a department store of the time it has great music written especially for it by Tim Finn from Crowded House and the legendary Split Enz. Based on Madeleine S...t Johns novel, The Women in Black, the story of the author is also fascinating. Madeleine was born in Sydney and her mother was French while her father ended up going to Australian politics (at the time of the Whitlams). Madeleine, a contemporary of Bruce Beresford and Clive James, among others, ended up writing 4 books yet her first wasnt written until she was in her 50s (which gives hope to all of us who believe they have a novel inside them waiting to erupt). Madeleine certainly had a unique attitude and way of looking at things and her story has been captured in Madeleine: A Life of Madeleine St John by Helen Trinca. The Women in Black, written in 1993 was Madeleines first book and she wrote three more after that A Pure Clear Light (1996), The Essence of the Thing (1997), A Stairway to Paradise (1999). I found The Essence of the Thing to be quite thought provoking, how we sometimes want something after we have lost it so human :)

We may gravitate to one particular look, or body style, or even ideology, however havent they both got something to admire them for. Havent both these women enriched the world. 17.01.2022 Glamorous Gals And Mad men will be displaying some lovely items just for Mothers Day at the Ballarat Heritage Weekend tomorrow - Sun 12th May, MOTHERS DAY. Ballarat Heritage Weekend is in its 5th year and I believe that last year 14,400 people attended. Its been a perfect outing for families to treat their Mum to a lovely day out filled with great people, great sights and great shopping. Even though Glamorous Gals And Mad Men always have the best prices on all their vintage and retro items and way more inexpensive than getting at a vintage store, mention that you saw this post when you come up and well pop a little extra into your purchase.

02.01.2022 Glamorous Gals And Mad Men has a small memorial to our Elvis (January 8, 1935 August 16, 1977) with some of the thousands of Elvis memorabilia items that they have in their collection being offered for sale at the Waverley Antiques Bazaar stall. Records, signs, collectibles are all being offered - to share the love and maybe someone else will be inspired to take on the collecting of Elvis items. There is also a painting for offer by a very special authoress - very special and should be checked out!
