25.01.2022 We have been going here at Tarrone for almost three years so its good to see some progress but still a long way to go.
24.01.2022 Certainly the wettest we have seen Tarrone in the six years we have been here. 90ml since Wednesday arvo. A great time of the year to be wet #tarrone #fourwinds #australiandairy #holsteins #wetoctober
23.01.2022 Yesterday 14-12-2019 was a memorable day classifying at Gleestar Holsteins. We were over the moon when we had two of our own bred cows go Excellent 90-1E! What made it more special is they are maternal sisters! Their Grand Dam being our foundation cow Lightwood Amish EX90-3E who I received as a calf for my 13th Birthday off our Uncle and Aunty Pat and Rosemary Roache. And what made the day ever more special is that we had pre arranged to call in and see Pat and Rosemary for... arvo tea yesterday. Dairying is a super challenging but having days like yesterday are so rewarding. Lightwood Amish EX 90-3E and Pat and Rosemary have certainly left a lasting legacy at Gleestar Holsteins
23.01.2022 After purchasing Faith as a yearling in October 2016 from Keilaglen Holsteins, she has settled in well at Tarrone, worked hard, classified GP83, PIed at 107, currently has a BPI of 215 and is a pleasure to see and milk twice a day. Faith is one of the eldest milking JOSUPER daughters in Australia and has now found herself in The ABS catalogue on page 18 and her photo has been used around the world including the UK Dairy Chalkboard. Faith had a bull in August 2017 so we are hoping She can have a heifer in August 2018

21.01.2022 Early this month the 7th of January, I was lucky enough to have an article with someone Ive admired and followed for many years, Scott Pape The Barefoot Investor. I have been lucky that opportunities have come along and I have always tried to use my money wisely. Paying down debt where I can has been a top priority! A herd of cows is a great way to build equity and something I value highly is having a profitable herd. Registering stock with HFAA, genomic testing, herd testi...ng and classifying are all tools used to make sure we are breeding the profitable, functional cow that will be around for many generations. I have a long way to go but I have found Scott Papes articles and books very worthwhile reading and Ill continue to follow The Barefoot Investor!

20.01.2022 Gleestar Delta Lambda Molly 203, currently our highest genomically tested heifer or cow at BPIg 298 When trying to put a herd of cows together 6 years ago we were lucky enough to purchase a line of Holstein heifers from the highly respected Keegan family. We registered them with the records that were available. Mollys Grand Dam was one purchased from the Keegan family. We enjoy creating new cow families at Gleestar and hopefully the Molly cow family can continue to develop and be an important part of the Gleestar herd for many years to come
20.01.2022 Our South Western Victoria Autumn Daughter Tour kicked off this morning with the first stop at Gleestar Holsteins. A lovely group of MVPs displaying the great rear udders, body depth & chest width that MVPs are known for. https://bullsearch.absglobal.com//coun/222/detailproof/AUS

In the 7 years and over class, we were lucky enough to place: 2nd - Lylarra Tailor Yasha EX90-1E 5th - Gleestar Ernesto Cutie EX90-1E. ... Both these Beauties, Yasha and Cutie typify the type of cow we are aiming to breed, production, type and longevity. Both are born in 2011, classified Excellent, have PIs of 104 and over and both are due next Autumn to Samaritan. Hopefully Yasha and Cutie will be around for many years yet.

13.01.2022 Another magical Winters morning at Gleestar Being the last Saturday of the financial year 19/20 we thought it was a great time to reflect on what a year its been. We have just ticked over six years at Tarrone and it certainly was a brilliant season with Mother Nature looking after us and also getting a good milk price. It was a year we had certainly been waiting for. The girls are as resilient as ever consistently putting the hard yards in, rain, hail or shine. We were... lucky enough to have had two more Excellent cows taking the current number of Excellents in the herd up to 4 which is 3% of the herd. The herd continues to rise in BPI ranking now ranked number 46 in the country. With a magnificent Autumn Break and great Winter so far hopefully the FY20/21 can be a great one too #australiandairy #holsteinaustralia #holsteins #breeding #passion See more
13.01.2022 After an extremely tough financial year, we got to take time to enjoy this morning classifying some girls at Gleestar. Its always great to stop and appreciate the girls with an udder full of milk, and continue to learn from the classifiers, pointing out traits that help cows with longevity, which contributes to profitability. We were lucky that we had Gleestar Ernesto Cutie add another E to be now EX90-2E and many more go VG. ... But the highlight was: Lylarra Tailor Yasha EX92-2E She picked up another 2 points this time round after having a Samaritan heifer calf in May. An enjoyable morning had and we are hoping we can build on this momentum, for what is shaping up to be a more positive year coming up
13.01.2022 The Gleestar family is over the moon with our latest addition, Mia Abigail Gleeson. Mia was born on the 18/08/2020 and we are feeling so very lucky. #miaabigail #farmersdaughter #dairyfarming #blessed
12.01.2022 We are absolutely heart broken with the terrible news of the passing of our Great Aunty, mentor, inspiration and special friend Rosemary Roache. Rosemary truly was the best! Rosemary lived and loved for her family and would do anything for her family. Any party or excuse to catch up with family, Pat and Rosemary would be there. ... Rosemary was such a passionate, caring, inspiring person always looking out for people. Rosemary wasn’t afraid to say it how it was, ask the tough questions and keep people accountable. Rosemary always went about things in a positive manner. One of Rosemary’s passions in life was dairy farming, in particular breeding cows. Rosemary and Pat started their dairy herd by going to the saleyards, buying farmers culls then breeding each generation better. It wasn’t long until the Lightwood herd of Jersey’s and Holsteins improved rapidly. Rosemary was proud of her herd and wasn’t long until the AI companies came knocking and Rosemary and Pat started getting bulls into AI. Bulls that carry the Lightwood name such as Outinfront and Larfalot had a massive impact and have left a lasting legacy for the Jersey breed not only here in Australia but also countries such as South Africa. When Rosemary knew I wanted to start my Holstein herd she wanted to give me the very best she had. So whenever an AI rep or the like would visit, Rosemary would take them to see the calves and ask them which was the best. Lightwood Amish was a standout, always at the front of the pen saying ‘I’m the best.’ So Mum and Dad bought Amish off Rosemary and Pat for my 13th Birthday at a very cheap rate. Pat and Rosemary couldn’t have sold a better calf for me to have and enjoy and breed on. Lightwood Amish went on to win Champion Cow at the Koroit and Port Fairy shows, classify EX90-3E and form an incredible foundation for the Gleestar Herd. 19 years on and over 15% of the herd goes back to Amish (not one embryo transfer). Amish’s progeny are standouts with two classifying Excellent last year, and we know they will be many more to come. But most importantly the Amish’s are always at the top or not far from the top of the herd test results. Rosemary was always a firm believer in herd testing and having profitable cows. While our heart breaks there will be no more catch ups with Rosemary (there wasn’t many topics that weren’t covered) we are truly blessed and lucky to have Rosemary as a special friend for all these years. Rosemary you truly were the best!
11.01.2022 Its always an exciting time seeing the release of the latest ABVs. We have been lucky that with the latest ABV release, we gained 3 BPI Points to be now ranked in the top 50 Holstein herds in the country
09.01.2022 We are on the board for 2017 with this little beauty. A heifer calf sired by Superlucky out of a Shottle!
09.01.2022 The girls working hard converting feed into the highly nutritious milk on this magnificent Autumn morning. The girls have moved up as a herd, to an average BPI of 102 which ranks them the number 46th highest Holstein BPI herd in Australia
09.01.2022 We have received our genomic results for our 2017 Autumn calves with 23 heifers averaging: BPI 134, OT 101, MS 102 and Fertility 105. Still so much to work on but its great having the information available so we know where the heifers are currently at.

07.01.2022 I never thought I would share an article from the Jersey Journal from 2009 on this page. But this article is too good not too share. It’s very clear that with Rosemary and Pat’s passion and work ethic they were always bound to be successful
06.01.2022 After trying to source cows from all round the district and Victoria to put a herd together four and a half years ago, at a time when cows for sale were scarce and expensive, we are rapt to have made the list of the top 5% Holstein herds on BPI in Australia! The Gleestar herd currently has an average BPI of 92 which currently ranks the herd number 59 in the Country. The last four and a half years have been a steep learning curve and very challenging but seeing the herd progress is very rewarding and keeps us all motivated and eager to keep improving. Thanks to all those who have helped along the way
05.01.2022 We had an enjoyable day classifying yesterday. Still yet to manage to breed an Excellent but hopefully not for away with another VG89. Gleestar Vouster VJ going VG89 on her 6th lactation being the highlight.
04.01.2022 Its great having Genetic Progress Reports available to see how the herd is tracking along. Its always very rewarding seeing progress.

03.01.2022 We are on the board for our Winter/Spring calving with this beauty, Gleestar Kenobi Perfection 343! We certainly hope Kenobi turns out to be the top sire we are hoping, as Kenobi has the most progeny by far born in 2020 at Gleestar. We are lucky the Perfection cow family has continued to breed on from Planet Perfection who we purchased back in 2011 at IDW. Kenobi Perfection’s dam was the first born in 2018 so this little one is keeping up the tradition. #holstein #holstein...australia #australiandairy Sire: Kenobi Dam: Bubba 2nd Dam: Silver GP84 3rd Dam: Tiergan VG85 4th Dam: Planet VG86 5th Dam: Roumare VG88 6th Dam: Lancelot VG89 7th Dam: Donor VG86 8th Dam: Storm VG89
