19.01.2022 Are you pregnant OR have given birth since March 2020 (during the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia) AND are you willing to share your experience by completing thi...s survey (ABA Research Approval Number 2020-5): https://surveyswesternsydney.au1.qualtrics.com//SV_8A1eQ6p Hannah Dahlen and her research team are conducting a research project (through Western Sydney University) into womens experiences of being pregnant, giving birth and parenting during the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia. We have already conducted in-depth interviews and we are keen to learn more by releasing this survey. It takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. Follow the link and add your voice to this study OR pass this on through your Facebook networks. All completed surveys where an email address has been provided will be entered into a raffle where 100 women will receive a $30 voucher.

18.01.2022 Can anyone help out? The Hawkesbury/Nepean ABA group hosts annual sessions to promote breastfeeding to medical students. Ive done something similar in the past... promoting homebirth, and its really rewarding and worthwhile. You need to be a current ABA member (also rewarding and worthwhile). "We are looking for some volunteer mums and bubs to be demo mums/answer Q&As for the Scorpio sessions. For those who dont know, the Scorpio sessions are held at Nepean Clinical School (opposite Nepean Hospital). During the session, we provide information and share breastfeeding experiences with medical students. It will be a little different this year compared to previous years. A trainee (Melissa Thompson or I) will give a brief presentation about breastfeeding to all students followed by a Q&A with 2-3 mums/bubs. Dates and times: Monday 3rd August 9:30-10:15 (2-3 mums/bubs) Thursday 6th August 9:30-10:15 (2-3 mums/bubs)"

17.01.2022 Did you know that research shows that when homebirth is backed up by a supportive hospital system it is as safe as hospital birth for women who do not have any ...complications. RHW is very proud of being one of a handful of hospitals in NSW to offer a Publicly Funded Homebirth Programme! In just under 2 years our midwives have had the privilege of being able to support 50 women to birth their babies in their own homes. Here is our 50th homebirth baby Ash and his proud mum Mara. Ash was born in the lounge room of his familys home, in an inflatable birth pool. A few hours after he arrived his 2 sisters woke and came to greet him on the couch. Mara said, "The birth was an experience I thought I could only wish for. It was a dream come true for me. I am so grateful". This service is backed up by the support of the ambulance service and the hospital if transfer is needed and the same midwife continues to care for the woman on the few occasions that transfer is needed. If you would like to explore the option of homebirth- message us here for more information. See more

16.01.2022 Thats how this article makes me feel. As induction and caesarean rates increase, womens rights are eroded. It is an attempt to further undermine female power - beacuse we CAN birth babies and we are POWERFUL!! Dont let a man tell you otherwise.

07.01.2022 Incredible to think that for many years, men werent allowed to attend the births of their babies. As a birth photographer, one of the best parts of my job is t...o see men not only observe but EMBRACE the birth process. To watch them fall in love with their partners in a whole new way. This dad didnt skip a beat during the entire process: -Holding his partner during each contraction -Jumping in the pool when it came time to give birth -Eagerly holding both baby AND placenta when mom needed help getting out -Snuggling their older children as mom did skin to skin -Helping clean out the birth tub while drinking coffee with the other hand (expert level birth partner skills!) Our world needs more of this, doesnt it? More men who reject the notions of toxic masculinity and embrace their partners and families with tenderness and nurturance. When I look at these photos, I see such happiness and beautiful human connection. Their three boys are so lucky to grow up in this home.

01.01.2022 Did you catch your baby when she was born? How was it? . Being the first person to touch your baby can be an intimate and exhilarating experience. This w...ill be the very first contact she will have with the world outside your belly. . You may be able to do it all on your own or by having your partner or midwife help by guiding your hands to reach down and bring baby up to your chest.
